Makoto is definitely awesome. I like her personality already and voice as well. This debut is definitely something to remember. I notice the animation quality improvement as well. Perhaps it's because of the break? Hmm.... Overall good episode. The battle felt a bit short but that's understandable. Sailor Jupiter's outfit is pretty as well.

Nice episode overall, and I just love Makoto and Rei all in all. There is no new footage in the preview again

Yes! Same here!
Loved to see that the animation quality has improved a lot, though if I think about it rationally, I'm not sure if that says much. It's at roughly an acceptable standard now, the improvement just seems drastic and excites me so much because of how awful the other episodes were. The transformations are still irredeemable. Considering they've otherwise improved the animation, I really hope they are at least considering replacing them for the BD release. My opinion on Kotono also still stands. The episode itself was great and it's good points finally outshone the bad. Makoto is amazing. Ami's switch from "she is good at this game, suspicious, grr " to "hehehe nice to meet you ^_^" was great. Glad to see they're not ignoring her personality in favour of making her look cute and sweet. Usagi's ability to see people for who they are is still heartwarming and her biggest character strength.

Having not seen the original - I cant really comment on this but I will say I rather liked the new VA, I thought she did Jupiter justice (imo).
I too share the opinion that this Episode was of a MUCH higher quality that the previous ones, did not spot many weird faces or eyes or animations, then again after being disappointed by the previous episodes I must admit i was hardly paying much attention to this. But from what I did see, it looked fine and of a good standard. Good episode. Is it just me or does the Opening sound better each time having to wait 2 weeks before I hear it again?? Also whats wrong with women and superhuman strength?? cant see how that makes them scary ---- Anime Logic ... lol |

Ep 5
Gotta agree that the art seemed better to me this ep and that the VA for Jupiter nailed it. I actually thought the bgm for the ep to be effective as well. This may have been the first time I can remember in the middle of an ep thinking "Oh ho? Nice! And it fits pretty well too!" But on the other hand, for some reason the VA for Sailor Moon seemed a bit more off than usual in this ep to me as well. I have not had probs in the first four eps, but it did not seem to work in spots in this ep for whatever reason for me. The story itself of the ep felt a teensy bit rushed for some reason, but I would want to give it a re-watch first toverify my current admittedly dim impression of it. Even so, I agree with Faerie - Usagi's straightforward kindness and simplicity in her interactions with others are definitely some of her best qualities in my book.

The animation is definitely getting better. Still some weird stuff, but it is nothing at all like the first couple episodes.
So, we're now up to chapter 5 of the manga. Most everything has been frame-for-frame the same, with a few minor differences. I'd put this episode in the top 2 so far in that respect.

For whatever reason, Usagi's high pitched voice was more annoying to me than ever. Perhaps that was because Makoto's deeper voice which sounds much more pleasant to me made me hyper aware of Usagi's pitch.
For the first time, a piece of background music caught my attention -- the music that played under Tuxedo Mask leading Usagi to the rescue. I don't remember hearing it before. Was this its debut?

Well at least the animation has improved, and Makoto's transformation scene is the most natural-looking yet... although she looks like a completely different person than in 2D.
But oh god, where did they record the teacher who scolded her for not wearing the uniform?? It's been a while since I last heard such utter crap recording. It sounded like he was talking with a bucket on his head. |

Makoto's transformation was the best yet, had a lot of impact when the lightning exploded into her clothes, and the cgi for it fits well for elemental stuff.
Found the episode itself rather boring however. Her introduction is barebones, and doesn't really flesh her out other than "oh girly, and strong" The other girl intro episodes may be similar, but felt they gave more than just the base characteristics. I feel Jupiter is most chunnibyou with her attacks.
