agreed on that.

also curious if all monsters on the Otherside drop mirror cubes? Or the others drop something else when killed.

and lastly.. that white monster on the 5th floor elevator stop, and that stop where they saw the monstrous hound that tried to get into the elevator. It looked like people used to live in those places.. I wonder what happened that it's now inhabited by those things. - novel / manga readers please don't answer, I'm anime only and wish to be surprised.

Ep2:

Searching for Satsuki in the Zone. Like Pripyat, this Zone even has chucking nuts and bolts at anomalies to detect them.

And it turns out it's not Satsuki or the guy's wife waiting for them but another creature 八尺様......And it's Sorawao who gets tricked instead. Come to think of it, this like the Wish Granter lol

Episode 2 is up.

Denizens of the zone huh?

We also got Kozakura's character introduction which I find to be rather amusing based on her personality. Toriko's search for Satsuki continues. I feel like this show is slowly but surely revealing parts of the zone and the Otherside.

I kinda like the eerie feel of the storytelling and the pacing.

If Sorawo's eye allows her to see the true form of the monsters, then how did she even get caught up in the illusion? It was a nice twist, but it didn't make much sense. I don't know the lore behind that monster though.

Not surprised the guy died, being a male in a "horror" yuri show is a death sentence.

Ah yes, the male character that pops up to give some weapons to the main girls and then dies.

This reminds me of a movie I saw called "Parallels."

I hadn't made the connection to Pripyat and the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, but you're right. It's very appropriate. Or perhaps what the Fukushima Exclusion Zone will look like in a couple of decades.

episode 2:

so Toriko and Sorao owe their "powers" to the Wiggle-Waggle they fought earlier. Fortunate it's the first monster they fought.. or they would be dead here already. The unexplained disappearance story really creeped me out.. and poor Mr. Abarato, looks like he's a good person, only want to find his lost wife.

the white hat Toriko picked up seems to be the one worn by the monster. I guess it's the item they acquired this time.

ok, looks like this anime is signed up for me to buy something later.

Good or not, I had some doubts about his SAN stat...

Is there really enough yuri horror for a representative sample? I can only really think of Mnemosyne and Happy Sugar Life...

I'm sort of impressed with the gun collection they're racking up regardless.

I really hoped they would do something more with that... it was an abandoned TV show that ended up being turned into a movie. Though the Otherside still reminds me more of the "Upside Down" from Stranger Things than anything.

Wasn't expecting Sorwaro to be the one tricked by the creature. That was actually a nice twist.

RIP guy looking for his wife. Considering what type of show this is, he never had much of a chance.

Plenty of stories where characters explore a distorted version of our world. It personally reminds of Silent Hill, except a loooot less creepy.

surprised me too. First time to see something like that done.. I mean.. thought Toriko was the one hypnotized.

writers could have made Abarato survive, then the girls would randomly find him there on later episodes. He has a wife, so he isn't even a threat to the yuri shipping. Sadly killed off though.

Have you noticed how often secondary characters that presumably survived for years in a dangerous zone and can be considered veterans with a lot of knowledge on how to deal with the situation, almost immediately die the moment they meet the main characters?

See... the power of yuri is the strongest survival skill. How many people did Chito and Yuuri outlast in Girls Last Tour for example?

He also confused one of the girls with his wife. Pretty big red flag.

yeah, that is indeed a red flag.

some last thoughts on episode 2. Convenient that defeating the monster automatically sent them back to the real world. They don't have to negotiate the minefield they passed before.

and they're building up a collection of items from the Otherside. 2 Wiggle Waggle Cubes, and a Hasshaku Hat. I wonder if these items would have significance later - manga / novel readers please don't spoil.

Episode 3

This episode was alright with a focus on Sorao and Toriko's continuous adventure. Tbh, I still find Sorao less likable than the other cast but I'm starting to tolerate her better.

The world of the Otherside is peculiar and always have this eerie vibe where they go. I find Sorao and Toriko's adventure to be somewhat interesting, nothing too unique but it's their character chemistry that draws interest.
