Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara (season 3)
Third season confirmed for Fall '17:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...s-fall/.117823 Always seemed likely, but this series isn't quite a big enough powerhouse to have made it 100% sure it'd continue in anime form. Good to see.

Nice first episode.
We got introduction of the main characters again and I like Souma's character chemistry with both Erina and Megumi right off the bat. There's a glimpse of the Elite 10 (yes, Rindou!) so expect to see more of them later on this season. Foodgasm wise, it's just going tame so far with the tofu but I expect that to pick up too. Personally, I like the ED theme song better than the OP song.

Wait a goddamn minute, I thought the last cour ended with the three way battle between Soma, curry guy, and berserker guy? Did I miss something, why they talking like they already met the elite 10 and even interacted with them?

Did we only have one opening?
The opening literally cover entire arc of season 3 anyway this episode bring me a tear, this is the peak of Shogukeki no Soma before that "arc" happened which led for downgrade of story quality today. |

Huh, so there was a change with Erina's voice, I wasn't just imagining it.
Also, thanks for that suggestion for the OVA. I thought it was just another timeskip, but I actually did miss 2 episodes!

That said, the new Erina is not bad at all. Kanemoto Hisako did a good-great job. You're welcome

First OVA was basically vacation, so nothing much lost like the first season OVAs. If you like looking at half naked men and women, I won't judge.
Second OVA though was summarized in the flashback, so you don't miss much plot-wise. That said, it's a pretty great introduction the Elite 10, and you get a great teaser on what the elite 10's personality. Of course they're pretty much stock characters from right now, like Kugi-loli, HanaKana stoic, and probably the one that made the biggest impression, Itou Shizuka teasing. Honestly, Shizuka Itou's most defining role for me would be Tama-nee from To Heart 2, and it's back in it's full glory with this Rindou chick. Impeccable casting, that one. Overall, I actually think that would have been a better pilot episode for S3 IMHO. It really sets up nicely what you can expect for Soma's opponents in the future, but eh, what you gonna do. Probably the one BIG thing the flashback doesn't say is that the eight who were invited are most probably going to be Elite 10 in the future. The Headmaster emphasized that this is a meeting between the current Elite 10 and very probably members of the future elite 10, so yeah, pretty significant. If it is foreshadowing, it is pretty blatant, but then again Shokugeki never tried to be subtle. Now if there's one bad thing about watching the OVAs, is that it accentuates the difference from Kanemoto Hisako and Taneda Risa. Kanemoto may be able to become almost indistinguishable in comparison to Kanae Ito's regular acting voice, but it isn't as complete when she's trying to mimick Taneda. So watching the first episode of new season has me thinking something was wrong with Erina all the the way through. XD

Really enjoyed the episode. The difference in Erina's voice isn't enough to make me really mind it, but I did NOT expect Kuga and Rindou to sound like that. Eishi either to some extent, though at least he's in the ballpark (I expected a little softer and more monotone). Not sure how I'd describe my vision of Kuga's voice, just that this one felt off. Rindou sounds too sensual rather than the wildness I envisioned.

Yeah, the more I hear it, the more I don't mind Kanemoto as Erina. She actually is fine for the most part... until she tries the tsun. Not enough bite IMO, but maybe that's because I typecasted her already as the 'nice girl' voice and it sounds like Tendou or Atra throwing a fit. Which is to say, they try to be menacing but it has no threat at all. Sometimes I wish I didn't follow Kanemoto closely all this time... XD
As for the episode itself, it's interesting that Hisako was speaking on Erina's behalf, in favour of Soma. She was almost as bad as Erina when it came to Soma, but I guess their time in Stagiare really changed her opinion of him. So who next, Erina? Apart from that, it's pretty much just exposition about chinese cuisine and setup for the next episode. So nothing much else happened, but seeing the gang with their antics (especially Alice's manipulation of Jun) was amusing to say the least.
