There was a new update to VLC yesterday (or today?), the version now is 0.8.6d, I wonder if there's any cool improvement.
A couple of weeks ago I posted in their forums about subtitles, one of the people working on VLC said that they were working on that (not sure if it was A.S.S. or SRT or however you write it), so VLC would handle it better, but I read the changes and nothing is mentioned there. |

I just watched a couple of episodes of series I'm on and they looked normally. Not much, because they were AVI's and I don't really have issues with those on VLC, I'll try some MKV later...
Didn't experience any crash, tho. If you are having crashes probably try repairing permissions, clearing the cache or zapping the pram. Can't guarantee that any of those would work for you but that's what I usually do when I have problems and at the end it works. |

I've never had such issues with VLC. Might probably help if you copy the error that shows up in the console and report it in VLC so they can see it and probably fix it? |

They already know about it. The one developer in the thread said they were able to reproduce it last December. I'm not too confident that its going to get fixed... |

Hey,
I installed Andyar's latest build and tried to play a couple of MKVs anime with the following parameters: -sid 0 -ass -embeddedfonts -fontconfig -ac mad (given by Ledgem) In both Tiger and Leopard it doesn't work. The subs are correct but unfortunatly there is no sound. Does anyone know the problem? |

Ok, I managed to completely screw up MplayerX on my Mac. I used it often for playing .mkv soft subs files but noticed it has trouble displaying simultaneous speech from more than one person, where it will just quickly cycle through many lines in a short amount of time.
I thought following the instructions on the first page would fix this problem so I decided to give it a shot. First off, I deleted everything Mplayer related, and then everything supposedly "X11" related (It just seemed like fonts and stuff which I was deleting, there was no distinctive "X11" program or anything). I tried downloading the "X11" program and the X11 '06 update on the first page but on installation is said I already had it. Finally, I tried downloading "Andiyar and Nonezumi's" version of Mplayer to start off with, but now, for every single type of file (.avi / .mkv etc) the Mplayer crashes and has a playback error. I've tried the official build of Mplayer, and repeatedly downloading the Mplayers to no avail. I'd be very grateful if anyone could offer their assistance. ~ Thanks in Advance. What error are you having on the system? Best to copy the last few lines of the error file and post it here. (Oh, and in case anyonereads down from the post above, "-ac mad," has been depriciated in the Andiyar/Nonezumi build - it's not required any more. Specifying it in the additional parameters will just lead to mplayer NOT playing any audio - the first post on this page should always have the correct instructions in it!) |

I know this thread has largely been dealing with mPlayer, but I have an issue related to Quicktime and Perian. I'm trying to watch Ghost Hound, but Quicktime pops up a "you need more components" message before playing the video - but no audio. I tested and found that it does this with other files that are .mkv (and use AAC audio - don't have any MP3 audio ones to test with). This is Quicktime 7.3.0 on OSX 10.5.1, Perian 1.0. I believe mPlayer will work fine for now, but I was hoping for Quicktime...
Also, I did try changing the audio output settings in Perian's control panel, and it didn't have an effect.

We we'll need to wait for Perian 1.1 for fix that. Meanwhile, mplayer r0x |

mplayer is a really good player Im currenty using the build posted on this forum. Its way better than vlc but my problem is after playing a lot of videos it tends to slow down. Lets say I played 20 videos, the 21 will either crash or takes like a minute to load. I opened my activity monitor and see that it is in red. Is there a way to reset or fix this? Turning the app off and on again does not fix it. It can only be fixed by rebooting the system. Is there a way to reset or fix this without rebooting mac os x?
Thanks |
