I sort of had expected that this would end up getting a sub forum for a while. And after this episode, it was only certain.
This was a very gripping episode. It really works as a mid-season finale, and I think it might be the first episode that my eyes had been glued to the screen. Fantastic stuff. Oh and Spoiler for In memoriam:

Yup this was the Wham episode. All the episodes before this was pretty much buildup to this one heck of spectacle. Let's see if Steins;Gate can keep up this momentum. If it stays this solid throughout, it may be the best anime of this coming season.

Ah, finally Steins;Gate gets a subforum, very well deserved .
This was a fantastic episode. Not so much because it was shocking, because really the death flags were around everywhere, but because the directing was top notch. Hamaskai is proving to me that his wonderful work on Texhnolyze was no fluke. The guy is very solid. Okarin really showed some nice development this episode. He acknowledged that he was taking things too far and tried to do the right thing, unfortunately as fortune would have it, it was already too late. Great moment between Kurisu and Okabe in the episode as well. And of course, I want Moeka's head on a pike now .

The beginning remembered me a lot of Clannad's Imaginary World, even though with real characters. But yes, it definitely sounded as a death flag.
Probably due to distraction, when I watched this episode, while knowing it was episode 12 and knowing that the series is 24, I didn't connect the dots as in "a major event is going to happen because it's the mid series". So, death flags aside, I enjoyed the episode just like the others, eventually expecting a twist at the end like every other time. But I wasn't expecting something of this magnitude in this particular moment, although I've been wondering about SERN's "warning" in episode 11 and found it strange that nothing was happening in that regard. Not surprised in the slightest that Moeka is the "bad guy", everything about her was suspicious and I guess that even Okarin got that much, despite making her a lab member. Didn't like when Suzuha suddenly ran away, it's clear that she knew that something was going to happen (not sure if she knew *that* was going to happen, because she may be aware of different outcomes depending on which timelines/alternative worlds they're located). Anyway, warning the others wouldn't have hurt, I guess. And now let's see what happens. I do expect to see Mayushi alive again though, in some other timeline. Even Kurisu died in episode 1, and yet she's here.

I got on this train late, only due to Key Board poking my sorry rear end with a cattle prod tenaciously. Thank god he did.
A very very pleasant find, with a very diverse lineup of colorful characters, an interesting enough story idea to allow for Nitro+ style pondering, paired with fairly high production values. What's not to like? Heck, I could watch this show already if it was merely for the Okarin-Chris antics. Especially the latter is wonderful, because she's a picture-perfect baseline tsundere who is absolutely likable without the usual grating-annoying screeching that e.g. KugiRie interpretations are plagued with. And hell, how can you not love her when she goes "I hate myself for understanding what this means." ^_^ But the others are just as fine... Mayuri is absolutely wonderful, and this show being centered around time-travel and altering timelines, I believe/hope that they will find a way to get her back. Daru, Suzuha, Feyris... and of course a big crosshair painting on Moeka (who I never liked to begin with), and who hopefully get her just comeuppance. Great show. Booked the season ticked. |

Episode 12 REVIEW
Well I'm glad the series finally got their own subforum. And they did on the week this episode aired. I shall express my sigh again that Mayuri died. Sad episode. . . really.

It's painful for Okarin to see his childhood friend dies like that there's even censors so we can't see the gruesome body of our beloved moe character. Somehow it's feel like Chrono Trigger or Yuyu Hakusho all over again.

Episode 12: Oh, SHI-
Far and away the most dramatic episode of Steins;Gate I've watched so far. The relaxed mood of the first half turns to despair and tragedy with one gunshot. But who knew Mayuri and Okarin were bonded together since 70 million years ago? Not me... Okarin acts very out of character in his conversation with Kurisu. Rather, he's actually being true to his feelings now; every other time he talks to his cell phone, living out his little mad scientist fantasy. I was quite surprised when Okarin began speaking of precious companions, but I really enjoy his softer side as well. When two anime characters are blushing at each other, you know there's love in the air. But to return to the centerpiece of this episode: Mayuri has been terminated. Moeka did not hesitate in killing someone who thought of her as a friend. Does this indicate Moeka possesses no feelings of friendship for Okarin or any of the lab members? All the time she spent in the lab seems to have had little or no effect on her role as a SERN operative. Now there's Suzuha. Somewhat messed up of her to leave without telling everyone else to leave, but they probably wouldn't have believed Suzuha anyway and SERN would have captured her as well. Kurisu was the one who's supposed to be a SERN spy, not Moeka! Indeed, I'm a little suspicious of how Suzuha knows what's going to happen. I think in a past timeline, Suzuha was in the lab when SERN commenced their raid. However, Kurisu was holding the gun instead of Moeka. Well, things change. I guess we have to say goodbye to the "laboratory" now... and hello to a jail cell. Whatever plans SERN has for Okarin, I doubt he'll go along willingly. Until next episode, then. Episode 12 Rating: 9/10 |
