I'm thinking of buying a couple of resin figure kits in the near future to try my hand at them. Does anyone have any good places to buy them from or good starting references?

Then they should have planned everything right from the concept art.

Mandarake , most resin figure kits are garage kits only sold at WonFes and the sort, will cost alot and have chances of having airbubbles etc

experience with mostly Busou Shinki resin kits

Not true. The site I've posted above do recast.

I'll be frank and say that recasting a resin kit is technically piracy. But the other alternate choice you have is to spend huge amount of cash getting a proxy to get the genuine kit from events.

Glad to see you have gone down the hardcore collector's route.

For the pragmatic and practicle will just have to make do with recasts.

Hmm as much as I'd love to support the original makers, I can only find recasts of the Muv-Luv figures I'd like to get.

I only hope the announced anime and HD release of the visual novels bring better commercial figures to the market.

Just got this morning.

Science with all of its cuteness!
But really, curse GSC for making few of the best nendos as WF/online shop exclusives...even more expensive than the snow miku 2011 for some reasons.

I got my replacement part from GSC today; instead of just sending me the red ribbon that was missing from Cirno, they sent me her whole torso part, so I was able to use parts from other nendos to make an Emono.

Black ribbon and legs from Kuroneko, head and stand from BRS. I don't have any spare stands or back hair plates, so I'm considering buying a cheap bootleg just for those parts, but I'm not sure, I'm not keen on supporting bootleggers, but I don't want to buy a random nendo just for two parts.

I'm very sorely tempted by Yune, she's so cute and I absolutely adore her third face, but she doesn't meet any of my collecting criteria so I don't want to start breaking collecting rules now lest it open the floodgates, and I already spend far too much as is. ;.;

It would appear that Griffon Enterprises is re-releasing their 2008 Shana figurine (at least one). Maybe in time for season three? According to their site they list a November release date

Hm, lately (better said 2011) I'm pretty disappointed in the figure offerings
mikus till you see blue, Touhous by the dozens, tons and tons of Nendos
(no offense to the fans of those, I guess I'm "out of the target demographic" )

I only pulled the trigger on the Raquel Gothic/Lolita Sisters, the only figs I considered interesting so far

The only WonFes figures (which I always look forward to because it usually offers many interesting things) that caught my eye were the 18+'s (Since I have a "No Nudity Rule" those are out of the question)

Now I know there are trends every year, but I could appreciate a (to my tastes) good "N'th" Haruhi Suzuyima or one amongst 100s of Kanu Unchou figures, or dozens of characters I wasn't a fan of or even aware it existed

what has caught my attention or had me raise an eyebrow has been very little so far this year
I'm hoping things will spice up soon
