First, Hanae needs to shut up. I can't stand his acting as Vanitas. Just no.

And all the signs I am getting is this will end up as trash like PJ animals.
Poor Michizuki never getting a proper adaptation despite how good she is.

Given that no one posted, I guess everyone found the second episode as boring as I did.

The characters have personality, it'd be nice if the plot is as up to par but I don't see that happening.

The main problem to me is Vanitas himself. He's just obnoxious. I like Noe, probably because the story is told from his perspective and the show has already started to explore his past (nine chances out of ten his cynical childhood friend will come back as a villain).

Casting makes a big difference.

Pretty much. It's adapting things fairly faithfully, but except for the bit in Orlok's office, the execution just isn't clicking for me.

It also isn't boding well that it's only the second episode, but they already seem to be wasting time reusing unnecessary scenes (the Book opening) and animating minor panels while cutting out subtle details, as well as part of the fight with Jeanne, and causing a continuity error.

I'd give it at least another couple episodes though, as this is just the intro arc, so the actual plot won't pick up for a bit.

I thought that the second episode was a slight improvement in the series. We got some angles of conflict in Noé's past, as well as a different POV to the whole Vanitas deal and what happens to curse-bearers after their names turn into a malnomen—not all curse-bearers seem to be hostile, but they do carry a certain amount of danger. That said, the whole thing involving Amélia feels suspicious. I don't think there's a need to show Orlok what the Book of Vanitas can do; it's basically a trap that's taken from the Witch Trials. Gotta wonder what Noé and Vanitas will pull off to save Amélia from this mess.

That's not fair. The forums is, well, not that active in terms of posting volume anymore.

That was a very heterosexual episode. I was surprised they had something like that happen so early

Anyway, this episode was pretty interesting. I wasn't expecting the vampires to be from, and still be living, in an alternate dimension (?). I'm curious what this place is like.

My favorite ship of the series (so far) has just pulled into anime port.

Once again, Bones' staff decisions continue to concern me. More of the fight with Jeanne was cut, as well as the majority of Domi's scenes, and nearly every piece of world-building. For the world-building, I'm curious if they've rearranged things to the next episode or if they just don't care about it, since they've been cutting almost all instances of it since episode one. This is what I was worried would happen when they announced the adaptation. It's like they haven't learned from PH. I wonder why studios don't just get rid of the OP and/or ED like Re:Zero did if there's not enough time. Mochizuki is cursed, sigh.

Yeah, the cuts were really more apparent this episode. I'm hoping that BPD Renegade is right and they're saving the explanations that were cut for a later segment, since there's something coming up that would be the perfect place to slot it in.

Vanitas and Noe - very much a Holmes and Watson combo. Vanitas loves his theatrics but he's a lot smarter and cunning than what he hides behind the fool that he plays. He really does know how to press his target's buttons. Even when trussed up by Dominique de Sade, he does the same. He may seem to be at a positional disadvantage but he nudged ahead in their exchange.

His advances and handling of Jeanne in prior episode are a bit of a creep but there was a strategy there. This episode though, I think he does actually feel attracted to her. It is still a very aggressive move he did - pinning her to the roof balustrade and having his knee between her legs. It's extremely suggestive and then offering Jeanne his blood to suck on to tame her blood lust. Again he knows which buttons to press, letting her feel the pulse and warmth of his blood via his neck's arteries and veins. Jeanne's resistance broke and she ravaged him.

Well played, Vanitas, well played.

Both the blood sucking scenes - the earlier one between Dominique and Noe, and then the one between Vanitas and Jeanne - had an erotic undertone to it but in different ways.

Vanitas looked like something other than his blood was getting sucked. He could have just cured Jeanne but he chose this instead and it was apparently worth it.

I didn't realize Dominique was the childhood friend from the flashback, since I thought that was a boy. She seems to have become a lot less gloomy and cynical after growing up.

Assuming it wasn't a bait and switch, Vanitas' mark is probably the reason Noe will be forced to kill him. I'm thinking Vampire Vanitas can reincarnate through it or something like that.

Bones again left out an important piece of info that gave a much darker implication to Domi and Noe's carriage scene when it first came out, but I suppose it'll pop up next episode instead. Hoping all these small rearrangements don't get as bad as what's happening with BnHA/MHA.

For all the details the anime has omitted, at least they're committed to keeping Noe's tendency to get lost and be completely oblivious to it.

The BGM that played in the last scene was also not what I expected... talk about mood dissonance. I'd imagined something much more intense.

So I was initially right, the childhood friend we saw in the flashbacks was a boy (Dominique's brother). Dead wrong about him returning as an antagonist though. Damn, that was brutal.

This episode was really well done. What a pleasant surprise that they took their time bringing the panels to life instead of condensing everything like usual. It really makes a difference. This was everything I wanted in the adaptation.

Brutal indeed. I wasn't expecting the anime to adapt everything in such gruesome detail.
