I find some of the choices for nations odd. Lithuania and Estonia were engulfed by the USSR, The Nazis, then the USSR again. Never played a major role outside of their respective areas minus many Estonians, Lithuanians, and Latvians fought against the Soviets in Russia.

And Austria was annexed into Germany

Their roles are also relatively minor in the comic, but they are nonetheless there and just as entertaining (Russia indeed picks on them in Hetalia). Many countries' various histories are represented if even just a little, which makes the webcomic (and surely anime too) very interesting. It made me very interested in history. There are a lot of times where a scene in Hetalia makes me go "did that really happen?!" and look it up. It's cute and sarcastic and constantly pokes fun at stereotypes but is a hilarious portrayal of real history. Almost disturbingly.. educational..?!

On that note, I hope this show will be able to air on TV easily without being pulled for offending someone...

yeah you can't take Hatalia to serious
I'm Polish, you know i think that my country really suffered a lot during wars(esp WW II), I like how it's portaited in Hetalia(unorganized, carefree, loud ) it's kinda true i think that it's little of historical facts in character every hatalian country.
Lithuania with Poland was big country in XVII century http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Europe_map_1648.PNG Hetalia isn't only about world wars - there is a lot other historical stuff there.

Huh... I just discovered this recently, and I must say, I really love the China strips, and the, ah.. non-existent Canada ones.

And yes, Afghanis-tan was fun.

(I hate Studio DEEN, by the way, but I guess I shouldn't really try to spoil the good mood.)

Yes, those were big, but the name has Axis powers in it, meaning WWII. Bye the second world war, Lithuania was very small, Poland was large but out dated.

I want all of them.

Curious about what the secret figure is going to be too. If it's just a repaint or something, then I'd guess something to do with UK. Entirely new...hmmm, well I'd want Austria, but not without Hungary.

Comedy version of WWI/WWII, very creative!

It will either ease tensions or worsen it. One way or the other, this one sounds nice!

When I first saw that this was going to be about comedy and history I immediately had a bad feeling, but after reading a bit into the thread I became more and more interested in it since the idea is great x)

If you're really curious, people at the Hetalia LJ community have been translating some of the strips into English. Quality isn't always perfect, but what scanlation is?

(This is still the strip that makes me laugh the hardest.)

I will watch this for sheer trippy quality. I mean the creator must have smoke something really good to create this.

I've read from somewhere that Hetalia anime will only be around 5 minutes long each episode, is that true/confirmed? It seems . . . too short A week-long wait for a 5 minute show is torture ^^;

I also wonder how it'll be aired, like . . . will it be online like Chocolate Underground? Or will it be in OVA? Or will it be on TV? x_x

I have the feeling that the anime series might turn out to be Lucky Star, with boys and history being tossed around.

I'm hoping it will come out like Azumanga Daioh, where they took the short stories and put them together for full episodes. I doubt any of Hetalia's stories would be long enough to make into a 30 minute episode on its own without mixing (except maybe the chibitalia story)

I'm also hoping that it could be Zetsubou Sensei style. Yes, hetalia comics are short, but they can compile them into one episode or make the story longer.

But if ever it'll really be just 5 minute episodes . . . the usual 10+ or 20+ number of total episodes is not enough x_x They better make them many xD hehe
