Tax man comes for couple's gold-coin find
---The people who unearthed the stash on their property could owe nearly half of the $10 million value in federal and state taxes.---

Source: http://money.msn.com/investing/post-...gold-coin-find

According to Kathleen Pender, a columnist at the San Francisco Chronicle, the couple who found in cans (pictured) buried on their property more than 1,400 rare gold coins worth more than $10 million will probably owe close to half of that sum in federal and state income tax, whether or not they sell the coins.

She quoted a 2013 tax guide in which the IRS stated: "If you find and keep property that does not belong to you that has been lost or abandoned (treasure-trove), it is taxable to you at its fair market value in the first year it is in your undisputed possession."
comments: "well, the IRS surely came VERY quickly here."

Look at it this way.... they are still five million richer.....
.....providing they can actually sell it for 10 mil.

I would imagine such a move to be used to secure the ports for both maintained sea trade with Russia in the Mediterranean and for the Black Sea Fleet to maintain operations if Ukraine were to become more unfriendly with Russia.

The more this keeps going, the more I'm worried this will end up into something reminiscent of the Prague Spring.

I will say. The notion that these really well equipped and disciplined troops running around the Crimea are some kinda of improvised local militia...laughable.

The troops in question are believed to be Russian PMCs (or equivalents therein)...

You mean they go barefoot, catch KPVT rounds with their bare hands and fling them back at Mach 2, and use their shovels to deflect rockets?

For Russian MILFs!

I mean Speznaz (or any other military formation for that matter) - won't be running hither and thither wearing something like that, lol.

Also - I see many people over the net talking about their uniform, like "only russia uses digital flora" etc. This might be true, but... anyone can by digital flora here Even I have my officer outfit back from university years

Not an argument. If these guys have anything to do with SSO or GRU, they could even be wearing nightgowns if the mission requires it. Not too bothered to wear unnecessary fancy crap like the Americans. This isn't a Hollywood movie.

Their equipment extremely resembles that of the recently issued to the Russian AF. It's blatantly obvious who they are. The badge-less crap is just a troll-ish formality, very Putin-style. (even though it's obvious they're Russian, formally you can't prove it, since they don't have badges and refuse to communicate with anyone)

It's blatantly obvious they are russian, but not GRU or something like that - that was my point

People complain that America fall short of being the good guys. But because no one ever even considers Putin to be a heroic character, Putin can get away with blatant villainy like this. Mostly because it isn't newsworthy that Russia has once again invaded its neighbour.

Joker of the recent Batman film got it right; no one panics when something expected happens, no matter how bad it is. What Putin did was wrong, but it is hardly worth discussing because no one expect him to do anything less.
