I haven't read the novels beyond vol 1, but from this and other forums:

1) His first spirit Restia appears to have lost most of her memory, but I think she remembers bits and pieces about Kamito. I don't know the crcumstances, but I heard she disappears in one of the later volumes, in such a way as it seems she is dead.
2) Restia (who he entered the tournament for) wanted to assassinate the Five Spirit Kings. Who were the ones granting the wish. Wut.
3) Yes This is a good thing, since instead of typical harem antics of a helpless boy being lead around by the girls, he is actually in control a lot. Very satisfying, especially when he does it to Claire, who is another Louise/Shana clone.

I reserve the right to be completely and utterly wrong about all of this, as well as the right to brag if it is correct.

well the women in this series are just naive.

they think the party they are talking to will sit there and listen.
Instead what Kamito does is flip it over and totally catches them off guard.

Seems like the only one who he cant pull a S mode off is Est.

Est, does it go into more depth as to who she is? and what (if any) are the reasons for her accepting kamito as her contractor? and does she have any progression romantically with kamito?

and i thought this was strange 2.. she stated tht she rejected 53-4 other b4 kamito.. does that mean she went berserk for each one? if so did they all die?

@for3ver I think the translator said Est actually outpaces all of the other girls, including Claire, as far as her relationship with Kamito. Which makes sense, being his partner in life-and-death battle.

Also, he can't S mode her because she is a deadpan loli who will do whatever he says, then troll him while doing it.

Im assuming both of them experienced a hard loss of there partner.

Est's old partner was said to turn into crystal?
While Kamito lost Restia.

Im also curious as to how far they progressed.

Also i assume the other contractors arent as stupid as claire in trying the ceremony out like 3 consecutive times pissing the sealed spirit off. :P

U have to admit, claire in vol.1 is a BAKA.
She is the type to totally get drunk on power, hence should never have a taste of it.

Considering Restia is the same kind of being as Est (Human-type spirit, turns into a sword) she might be the reason for how easily Kamito can handle the other girls.

yeah... i also think he's doing all the things Restia abused him with back on the girls.

Est and the Principle are the only people he cant maintain the flow with.
The Principle pulls him up 1 level to her level, so Kamito loses against her, and Est throws him off sync.

Then how can Est end up being pregnant? I mean, if she carries a child and transforms into a sword, does that mean that the sword would be round-shaped after a few months?
