Recommendations: Action

Provide your recommendations for anime, manga, light novels, web novels, visual novels, games, and other media within the genre: Action!

These should be works that you've experienced personally and would like to recommend to others. No "troll" recommendations, or non-recommendations in this thread. For longer series, you don't necessarily need to wait until the whole work is finished before recommending it, but please at least wait until you've at least experienced enough of it to make a good judgement.

Please don't just post a list! You don't need to do a full review, but for each title you suggest, please also consider providing:
  • The full title
  • The author, studio, or other information that will help identify the work
  • A brief explanation of the setting and premise (no spoilers!)
  • A brief summary of why you like it and/or why you think others might like it
  • How much of it you've experienced (particularly for longer series)
  • Other works that it reminds you of, if applicable
  • A link to a review you wrote on our site, if applicable
  • Any other information that might help someone know if they should give it a shot
You may optionally post a few images if it helps, but please use thumbnails, and/or place it inside an [images] tag. Most third-party image hosting sites will provide a feature to copy/paste BBCode that uses thumbnails.

Please DO NOT post links on where to illegally download/stream/view the work you're recommending.

Again, for the purposes of this thread, please avoid all spoilers or hints that may ruin surprises in the plot, and absolutely no flaming another person's recommendations. If you see any problematic post, please report it so the moderators can review and take any needed action.

Jormungand

The full title: Jormungand

The author, studio, or other information that will help identify the work

Produced by Geneon
Animate by White Fox
Based on Manga produced by Keitarō Takahashi

A brief explanation of the setting and premise (no spoilers!)

MC, named Jonah, is a child soldier who is hired by an arms dealer to protect his younger arms-dealing sibling, Koko. Plot revolves around protecting her from various threats as she attempts to execute her "ultimate plan".

A brief summary of why you like it and/or why you think others might like it

One of the few animes I've ever seen that is VERY realistic to the guns used, even listing off specific brands/models of firearms. Because they are realistic in the guns, the action is kept accordingly realistic to match, resulting in some VERY entertaining fights. Characters all have an interesting "flaw" or background, so you'll be sure to find a character you can enjoy. The ending is a little bit of a cliffhanger, but there is a second season that I have yet to watch by the name of "Jormungand: Perfect Order", so we'll see how well it resolves. Jonah is, in my mind, almost like a male kuudere, in that he's super silent, reserving almost all feelings, which I find super interesting since most silent characters are girls in the other shows I've seen.

How much of it you've experienced (particularly for longer series)

Entire first season.

Other works that it reminds you of, if applicable

None, to be honest.

A link to a review you wrote on our site, if applicable

None

Any other information that might help someone know if they should give it a shot

If you are a gun-lover, this show is for you. If you like a bit of corporate espionage, you would probably like this show. If you liked GATE: Jietai Kanochi nite Kaku Tatakaeri for it's awesome curbstomp army moments in early season, there are a few scenes in this show that will definitely have you going "OOOOOH S**T SON, YA GOT WRECKTIFIED". They pull some pretty crazy stunts, simply because they have the money/firepower to. All in all, 9.5/10

The full title: Noir

The author, studio, or other information that will help identify the work

Produced by Bee Train
Directed by Kōichi Mashimo
Written by Ryoe Tsukimura

A brief explanation of the setting and premise (no spoilers!)
The series follows the story of two young female assassins, the Corsican Mireille Bouquet and the Japanese amnesiac Yuumura Kirika, who embark together on a personal journey to seek answers about mysteries concerning their past. At first, they seem to be only vaguely related to each other, but there are clues and hints given throughout the series that there is more going on behind the scenes than at first glance.

A brief summary of why you like it and/or why you think others might like it

I really liked the story and characters, especially developing of relationship between Mireille and Kirika. Also there are a lot of well-directed action scenes with amazing music. Plus great noir atmosphere.

How much of it you've experienced (particularly for longer series)

First season.

Other works that it reminds you of, if applicable

Phantom the Requiem of Phantom, Madlax, El Cazador de la Bruja.

Any other information that might help someone know if they should give it a shot

This anime is the first in "girls with guns" trilogy, and,in my opinion,is the best.
