As expected, the 1st episode was pretty bad. The only thing that was good for me were some of the OST and the Opening:
They skipped a lot of things by jumping from place to place, it was kinda weird. I'm looking forward to the next episodes though even if it's terrible, i'm always in for more Berserk stuff. |

The music is nice at least but eh, I felt weird after watching the first episode.
It's the strange feeling of the CGI but also some of the storytelling. And obviously, the new series already assumes that viewers are very familiar with the franchise with the flashbacks. Definitely didn't impress me much yet.

I can't fricking stand Sagisu's choirwork. I can't believe sound directors end up using those tracks. Other than that: Lolz, this was not good at all. The PV featured probably the best looking shots from this episode so adjust your expectations accordingly~

I dont know shit about Berserk. But i peeped the first episode just to see the art style. I better not hear any complaints because this is one of the better cg work ive seen. The blend with cg and 2d with some shading was good. Now if the story is shit i wouldnt know lol.
Im not going to continue this because idk anything about Berserk manga or anime. Last edited by moodie; 2016-07-01 at 10:49. |

Holy hell this was absolutely disgusting and offensive mess
This looks bad. Every single way it can look bad. Not just bad adaptation, not just bad anime. This show is the kind of thing aliens would justify humanity's end on(hey let's take canonically non-white character and make it fit a racist standard of beauty that Japan media can be obsessed with sometimes). I don't think it is possible to bear watching the whole season of this. Why does Japan STILL think it is great idea to ruin Berserk again and again? This show is the worst case of monkey paw effect I have seen in a while... |

Well, as a long time Berserk fan, I wasn't particularly impressed, however it wasn't as bad as people are making out to be.
It's true, the CGI makes it seems like you're playing a video game on 15-20 Fps, but the character designs are on point at least. I'm disappointed that they needed to skip an arc tho. Also why the hell is Casca so white lol? Spoiler:
Hopefully it will get better in the next episodes.

It's not great. Looks like they're headed straight for the conviction arc, which is weird, but I don't mind it, since what they're skipping isn't super relevant. The CG looks okay, I really like the armor, some of the faces look pretty bad, though, including Guts' at times. I also don't like the way shading is done. Some shots look straight up awesome though and the music is also doing a great job. So far I like it, but it wasn't impressive.

I was glad they actually did the old man and the girl introduction, i was so sure they wouldn't, seeing as how gore and such have been downplayed or removed in most anime nowadays.
The animation style is very bad though, why don't they just save money by having it all in 2D? Okay Falconia should probably be in CGI since that place is huge and detailed. Still Guts face was very of sometimes, i think it's because we couldn't see his nose properly in most shots, so his face seemed very long. I wanted to see the arc where Guts kills some of the Apostles though, it would introduce Gutz to newcomers to the series. Over and all, 6/10 for effort and trying to keep some of the story. The minus is obviously for lifeless and expressionless 3D models. |

adaptation - good. ofcos they must skip and improvise thing. since they have no time for lost children arc but must retain introduction element from first volume. so solution is - just mix them up.
ost&voice - still use some ost from movie version. and that is a good thing. and have yoko hikasa in main role is always +1 for me visual - now, now. i dont mind at all for cg. if it done very well like in arpeggio of blue steel. which is, in some scene you cant even tell cg from handdraw apart(it beautifully render and have good motion). but in this. very stiff and low detail. but even so, they have some small use of handdraw in some close-up scene. censorship - most important thing lol. this one is better than i thought. they can fully show decapitated head and human body cut in half. but just dark out the innards. pretty good for TV show level. Miura-sensei why did you even agree/allow this shitty atrocious anime adaptation to happen after the horrible movies... I sincerely hope they at least paid you a lot of money, because your great/epic manga was better off without any anime adaptation at all!
What I would really like to know is the following: Was there really no studio/anime staff capable nor interested in animating faithfully the glorious art/panels Miura-sensei draws to bring his magnificent epos/manga alive on screen? Or is it simply a money issue where Miura-sensei would not receive enough, meaning a studio/anime staff capable of doing this manga in anime form justice would not be (financially) interested in this project anymore? Just imagine this saga for example animated with the budget and care Ufotable put in their "Kara no Kyoukai" or "Fate" franchise or Bones studio/anime staff who did "Sword of the stranger". I was always under the assumption that the Berserk manga/saga was quite popular in Japan... Last edited by kanon78; 2016-07-01 at 13:03. |

It's that time of the year again.
I've watched berserk years ago, all I can remember was that there was a sort of flashback after the first episode and the last episode had an open ending, I don't know anything else about the series beyond that. So, is this a remake or a continuation of that series?

CG itself here os hit or miss. Occasionally it looks good, but sometimes it looks lime PS2-era.
Didn't like this episode. 1. Story is rearranged too much 2. Lip sync is inexistant. 3. Puck looks completely out of place. Yes, some may argue that he was out of place in manga as well, but at least he was done in the same art-style. Here he looks just wrong, as if he was plastered there by an amateur. 4. Music isn't impressive. 5. Sound effects downright awful. P.S. Why does Casca becomes whiter and whiter with every adaptaion? I swear, next time she will become albino. |
