Yeah, I think the episode's lesson is that Reg needs to be extremely careful in using that ability. Riko will walk herself right into a death trap otherwise. I mean sure it's a nice thing that she managed to get herself out of trouble. But if Reg hadn't regained consciousness when he did I'm not sure that last encounter would have turned out too well. Even if Riko learned how to use that thing it doesn't mean she has the brawn or combat experience to make it work.
An episode of pros and cons. It was nice for Riko to get herself out of the trouble that she got into. And she did battle through a lot of things. At the same time....she just had to sit tight for 2 hours. I get being hungry, but suck it up for a couple hours! That's a lot less painful than what she actually did after. So props to Riko for her efforts...but facepalm for her recklessness. I really can't see these two surviving this journey without some real powerful plot armor. The flaws these two have can easily outweigh their strengths.

Ozen did tell him to kill his target with the Incinerator which he failed to do. On the other hand, this particular enemy has proven relentless and tough to kill for nine episodes. I'm not holding it against him that he didn't kill it, and I don't think his failure to do so makes him reckless. If anything, Reg is one of the most sane characters I've seen in anime in quite some time. I looked over the closing scenes again. Riko is not only dragging and carrying Reg. She's also carrying that big backpack. That could weigh as much as Reg does. And yes, Lyza left quite a powerful gift behind for her daughter! Riko was carrying that, too. Strong young lady, don't you think? I liked the way Reg caught it one-handedly and nonchalantly, too.

She's still pretty distressing, if you ask me. More than anything it seemed like she was trying to do everything possible to get herself killed and eaten.

OK, but that had nothing to do with her saying "I'm hungry, so rather than wait two hours for Reg to wake up I'm going to follow my nose in a world filled with creatures who use trickery to lure other creatures to their doom."

Scenario 1: Reg: I have to shut down for 2 hours. Don't move or you could die. Riko: I'm hungry. Instinct-Riko: Go to the center of the abyss..... Riko + Instinct-Riko: I'll go to the center. Maybe I'll find food on the way. It's only 2 hours. I'll be okay. Scenario 2: Reg: I have to shut down for 2 hours. Don't move or you could die. Riko: I'm hungry. ... Riko: I'll wait for Reg to wake up.

Yup, they need to Nat to keep them grounded with common sense. Maybe that bunny girl in the ending will fill that role, bit surprising that after 9 episodes she still hasn't been introduced despite being feature so prominently in the ending.

Episode 10:
Pretty thrilling episode. It goes to show just how dangerous that layer is already. They made Riko suffer this episode and it employed a great amount of psychology into her character as she dealt with the pain, both physically and mentally. One other thing I think this episode did really well is to show how much human Reg has become. When Riko was suffering, he really cried and didn't want to lose her while feeling helpless. Glad to see Nanachi showing up this episode. (I like the voice acting tbh, really makes the character sound real)

Hello darkness, my old friend.
The silence and then the heartbeat when Reg notices she's been stabbed was really dramatic. And then that scene of the blood pouring out. How does anyone get back up from the 4th floor with that sort of Curse? Thankfully, Fluffy nee-chan was there, but the sound of the bone snapping sent my spine rigid.

The bunny finally appeared. I was starting to think the character wouldn't appear until the last episode.
If that's how bad the curse gets on the fourth floor, it's a wonder anyone comes back from there at all. It's no wonder that they say anyone that makes it onto the fifth and sixth floors ceases to be human, if you can survive that and worse, you probably aren't human anymore.

Ep 10
Ayup ... an official welcome to the Abyss in this episode. Things got very, very ... grim and "real", and quite fast. It only took the tiniest of missteps. And oh man, even though I knew it was coming I winced when Reg broke her arm ... poor Riko. And poor Reg! Good thing Nanachi happened to be in earshot.
