Wow. So it's gone from school life comedy, to light hearted gag battle manga to actually killing off students now? What's next? And my worst fear has come to light. Ever since he was introduced, I wanted Zenkichi to be the one to fight King, but it looks like it's going to be Medaka. Sigh.

What makes people think Zenkichi was in ANY condition to fight Miyakonojou?! He was already wounded from his fight with Munakata and got even more damage against brainwashed Medaka. He doesn't have a healing factor so there is no way he should be fighting Miyakonojou in this situation.

Plus I'm pretty sure I told people somewhere along the line not to be surprised that Medaka is the one who fights him. Speaking of Miyakonojou, I'm assuming Koga pulled her heel face turn at that moment or she wanted to fight Medaka and he pretty much told her to get out of the way. Poor Koga and it looks like Kujira may finally wake up after all this too.

That being said, the sketch of all the 13 Party members is fucking awesome. I can't wait to own that in volume 7 unless it gets put in the end of volume 6.

Btw, we were given a hint Zen might be abnormal. Remember when Medaka met him at "that" hospital.

Medaka not lasting? This is Medaka we are talking about. This isn't like when she was fighting Koga without her usual personality. As far as we can tell she is back to normal(Hahaha) and was probably healing on the way down to Miyakonojou's floor.

There have been more than enough hints to justify Zenkichi being abnormal and I agree with that. However, it depends on what his actual abnormality turns out to be. If it is non-combat oriented like Kujira, Yukuhashi, or Maguro he is still going to be in his beat down state with no real equalizer unless he figures it out on the fly.

Unless a scenario where Medaka beats Miyakonojou up so much even Zenkichi can face off against him or kill-steal at the end or something.

Zenkichi "wrecked" Munakata but he still popped up again, was redeemed, and willing to help the student council. This is shounen we are dealing with where antagonists often get converted by protagonists as you know. Zenkichi isn't that much different from Medaka in this case.

In regards to the issue about Zenikichi and Kumagawa possibly being abnormal:

They're probably not...

When Medaka first met Zenikichi at the hospital where they were testing her....she had just ran away from her doctors and decided to hide out at the hospital's nursery until the heat died.

Her reasoning being that since only a select few of the staff involved in the test knew her by her appearance, most people would just assume that she was the daughter of one of the medical staff even if they saw her at the nursery. That's where she first met Zenikichi, and he told her the words that saved her life.

So it's implied that Zenikichi isn't abnormal at all...he's just the son of one of the medical staff at the Hospital.

As for Kumagawa, Medaka mentioned that she asked the doctor testing her about him after their first meeting. And the doctor told her that they sent him back home after the first test once they determined there was nothing abnormal about him.

There's evidence that Zenkichi is as Normal as they come, but there's also evidence
that he's even more Abnormal than Medaka. I wish they'd hurry up and resolve this issue.

As for Kumagawa, he's clearly Abnormal. I'm betting he failed the testing because, like Zenkichi said before, he's a "Born Loser". Someone who fails at everything they do. Misogi's Abnormality is clear just from what Zenkichi's told us and from what we've seen of him. I can't wait to finally meet the only person to defeat the God-Like Beast Kurokami

The only one who thinks Zenikichi might be abnormal is the headmaster. Everyone else including Maguro (who's abnormality is his analytical skills) has recognized him as a guy who's as normal as they come....that attained his current strength through hard work (and an unhealthy dose of worry for Medaka's wellbeing)

Let's also not forget that the headmaster is a biased bigot who can't accept the fact that a normal can beat an abnormal under any circumstances. His entire logic for Zen beating Munakata was basically...."Oh! He absolutely must be an abnormal masquerading as a normal....else there's no way he could have beaten our abnormal sociopath!!".

As for Kumagawa....there's not enough evidence to support or deny it. However, one thing Medaka said from the most recent chapter stood out:

The remaining members of class 13 were trying at one last ditch effort to convince Medaka to join the flask plan. Their arguments were surprisingly idealistic....they want all of humanity to evolve into the perfect human....no more worries....no more feelings of inadequacy....everybodies superman....all that jazz.

Medaka however declines their offer, stating that she believes it's impossible to create the perfect human as such a thing doesn't exist. She also stated that even if they managed to create their so called perfect human....would denying all of humanity's imperfections really make that being perfect?

She doesn't believe that as she once met someone who represented humanities imperfection in the past. *Cue flashback by Medaka and Zen to Kumagawa*

Two things:

1) There's still WAY too much text in this manga. It's more of a light novel with pictures than a manga.

2) That translation for 49 has King calling Zenkichi Medaka's lap dog. I'm wondering if Nishio actually saw what a lot of the fans were saying.

These characters are mutes compared to Nisio's light novel characters lol. The lack of dialogue is what hurts Medaka Box compared to Zaregoto or Bakemonogatari. Could you imagine a Zaregoto manga true to the LN with 3 chapters in a row of Ii-chan talking to someone through a door? Utterly engaging as it is you can't do that, but those witty and long verbal exchanges are Nisio's strenght.
