Sonic Generations (Sonic the Hedgehog 20th Anniversary)
SEGA has released a teaser trailer earlier today for an upcoming new title in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. All that's known about the game from this trailer is that the game will be available later this year (2011) and will be for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles.
While no actual name for the game has been confirmed, it is believed this is the new "Sonic Generations" title that has been rumoured about lately, and there is evidence to back up these rumours. The trailer features Sonic running among a blank Green Hill Zone-like stage with only the path he runs in color. It is notable that the manuvers he makes are all from the titles Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors. Even the sound effects are the same. Lastly, classic Sonic (pre-Sonic Adventure) shows up near the end and runs alongside the modern Sonic. Do you think the rumors are correct? What are your hopes and expectations of this title? Did Sonic Colors' successful reception improve your opinion on this series? I myself can say I'm easily excited for another major Sonic title.~

Sure, quite a few of the recent titles were less than stellar or downright crappy *coughsonic06cough*, but I bought them anyway.

I'd say Colors was already SEGA's best effort with the franchise ever since it went 3D, at least for me. The game was quite polished, they got rid of the very complex storylines which didn't really fit into the Sonic unverse and used something much more cartoon-like, which while not perfect was, at the very least, bearable, even managing to make me chuckle every once in a while (voice chip and Cubot, hah!).
With that in mind, that small teaser sort of gave me the idea that they will still keep the mechanics that Unleashed brought such as the "drift" and crouching to avoid obstacles. I don't really have a problem with those and they clearly work for the fast paced gameplay in those speed stages. However, despite really liking the colorful worlds on Colours, it's nice to see them bring back those familiar textures from Green Hill. The inclusion of classic Sonic makes me wonder if they'll be aiming to improve on the act system introduced in Colors, where some were clearly focused on lightning fast gameplay while others tried to recreate more standard platforming with the 2D view. Maybe they could use our "new" Sonic design for the former and chubby Sonic on the latter? It's an idea. Anyways, what really matters is that it finally seems like SEGA found a formula which they're happy with to develop new (good) Sonic games. Gone seem to be the days which every new flagship Sonic title was completely different (in a bad way) from its predecessor, due to complete staff overhaul and other issues that seemed to be plaguing the series.

Well, only difference being the same difference between Sonic and Classic Sonic~ Anywho.... as a list, this is all off the top of my head... (Not counting cameos and relaunches) Spoiler for Sonic List:
Seeing as I'm not the fan I used to be, but that should be the right order. Though, there might be some missing.... or some may be out of place~

Only two I noticed you missed was "Sonic and the Secret Rings" and 'Sonic and the Black Knight".
Former was decent but the on-rails running did get kind of annoying. Latter was absolutely horrid though.

Which is a good thing, because those two have easily been the best 3D titles in the franchise so far. Glad to see SEGA are finally sticking to what's actually good, instead of coming up with yet another new system.

I've always been wishing for another title like Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, and while Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 did give me that, I was still a little disappointed.
I was however glad to hear that Sonic Colors got good ratings, as I was getting a bit tired of Sonics downfall. Hopefully this one can deliver just as good (if not better) results as Colors. Who knows; maybe it'll be a bit more Adventure-esque. I don't particularly enjoy the linearized fashion lately in Sonic games.

And if this boxart is official, I'm not expecting the final version to look like that at all. Way too bland. It doesn't even have "Sonic" on it.
