awesome first ep. Found it interesting how different little Rikuo was before learning how bad yokai were. His change was a bit sudden for me but it's believable. Lol at grandpa's magic skills. I don't mind the Tsurara pairing one bit. Like how they changed Rikuos cape from blue to red this season, think it makes him look more badass. So i didn't get the opening scene, but it guess that's the whole plot-line for this arc.

Definitely a great first episode. Feel bad for the young Rikuo to get such a shock. Really it's his grandfathers fault for giving him such a slanted view. The tales of his younger days sound cool, but it's not the whole picture. The mansion is filled with good guys that play with him and care about him. Then you have that guy talking about his exploits which just shatters Rikuo's views. No shock it took all the way into the first season for him to really get moving forward.

The opening scene was something though. So that's how Rikuo's dad went down.... It gives you the death, but so many questions in that scene.

In terms of the pairings who knows. I like Tsurara a bit more, but really will have to see which way Rikuo ends up going.

And its because he is that symbol that I think he will end up with Yura. If was a question of popularity than yeah no contest... but there is issues with Tsurara... Hmmm talk about a close one... it's pretty much neck-to-neck... It could be anybody's win so I don't think we can definitively call this one yet...

Kinda shows how silly they were to push Kana so much in the first season..... it's a shame that the first season will put so many people off from watching this.. I wouldn't say the Kyoto Arc is shounen at its best... but it's not far off...

As long as we don't take stuff from there into consideration, it should be safe.
Also, I said it once but may say so again: we may get an AO ending so what happens in Manga may not count here anyway. Events from Manga should not be considered unless they get animated.

I agree, as far as symbolism goes, Yura is also a good option, seeing as she is a Youkai Hunter and all. Spicy drama, kickass girl (as long as there are no civilians around) and all in all, a good fit. I for one wouldn't mind her winning :P

Thats what you get when you have an ambitious Director who is also a self-proclaimed huge Kana fan. In a later interview he even admitted that he told his staff to give Kana a big push but not much to other two girls. His goal was to make Kana mora popular but I am not sure it worked: a lot of Kana hate started appearing on various forums... And honestly, what makes Kana charming to me in Manga was not present in the Anime.

Well he is gone now and we have a new Director... hope he does his job better.

Hopefully the rest of the episode can follow this high standards and no random Kana popping up in places she shouldn't be in.

Personally I'd rather Tsurara but, I think that a ending where none of them wins is most liktly considering he is like 13 maybe 14 by the time of after the Kyoto arc. Which should be where this season animates to.

Lol, poor Nura, after that first season so many people are avoiding it. I only checked out the first episode because you guys said it was so much better and I agree, that was better (see, told you that first chapter was kinda important!) and I'll give it a few more episodes before I decide if I'll follow it or drop it.

First season was such a fail that after watching a episode every week when it aired, I didn't bother watching the final episode till recently.

First episode of the second season was good but I would wait for more episodes to say if it has really improved since last time.

Is this a manga fact, or is this an opinion?

I did notice that Kana is not on the main poster picture, and that she only had one appearance in the opening credits with the rest of school friends. It would just seem strange since she was so prominent in the first season and even this first episode.

Anyway, episode 1 was very solid. It looked like a totally new anime compared to the first season. I was hoping that it will continue from the last season but having a little background story was nice as well.

Kana's role just takes a backseat in the upcoming arcs, which focus a lot more on Yura and Tsurara, while Kana falls more to the secondary character role.

I have a question about the last scene. Day Rikuo was flying on the back of a yokai. They dip into a cloud and emerge with Night Rikuo riding the yokai. Did that scene take place in current time or were we still watching a flashback?
