More Matsuri? Wasn't the previous chapter enough?

Somehow, I enjoyed writing about Matsuri more than my other OC's, despite the fact that she has no H4XX powers, no complex history, no cool devices, not even mage powers.

Which in turn made me think up of a scenario sooooooo freaking.... you'll just have to read to find out.

“Now…

How do I make this work?”

Matsuri was curious. Incredibly curious. She looked at the object in front of her with discerning analyzing eyes, eyes that looked as though they can dismantle an object through the sheer act of viewing.

The object in question was an amber basketball-sized transparent sphere, mounted on a white flat circular base. Despite its smooth surface the interior of the ball appeared to compose of hundreds of small triangular golden facets, forming a complex polyhedron that glistened in the light. The entire surface of the structure seemed to be coated in a thin layer of some oil-like substance, which appeared to shift slowly across the shape, in a display of flowing streams, fleeting swirls and spirals. The patterns were a mesmerizing sight… and yet try as she might, she still could not discern the inner workings of the sphere.

She held the object in her hands as she plopped herself back on her soft bed, raising the sphere high above her as she stared at it once more. The sphere reflected and refracted the white light from the room’s ceiling mounted circular fluorescent lamp around itself, producing even more strange motions and delicate visual patterns. The sight could bring no consolation though and she sighed in resignation. Why was she so interested in it in the first place?

It was only a few hours ago that she had received this unusual object. Or rather, borrowed it.

She recalled how she had seen the object amongst the other rubble that her Uncle Turing seemed to have collected in his lab. The normally pristine room was filled in one corner with what appeared to be a heap of… stuff. Metallic bars, shiny rods, glowing staves, shining cubes, and other odd assortment of items of all shapes, sizes and colors littered the place haphazardly in, as she described it, “a macroscopic display of high entropy”. Translated from her scientifically derived terminology, it was an appallingly hideous example of complete and utter chaos, deprived of all semblance of order. Her only possible reaction was to sigh hopelessly at the sight, palm to face.

“Spring Cleaning.” Was the only explanation her Uncle provided for the disheveled mound as he shrugged, before returning his attentions to the monitor in front of him. At the very least, she took comfort in the fact that she would not be responsible for cleaning up this mess.

Amidst the mound, a soft yet bright golden glow had caught her eye, swamping all the other lights emitted by the multitude of other objects in the mound. Removing some red-rimmed orange goggles here, a small yellow conical spiral drill there, a red star shaped pair of shades, a bearded disembodied bald head in a bulb jar prop, and some other obstructions, she had managed to reach the source of the glow and retrieve it from the rubble.

“Uncle, you know what this is?” She asked her uncle, still looking at the glowing golden orb she held in front of her.

“That Matsuri, would be a precognitive extrapolation emotion sensor sphere. I prefer to just call it 'The Orb'.” The old uncle replied without even looking up at her.

Incredulity filled her tone. “Precognitive? As in to see the future?”

“In a way yes. It’s very much like Laplace Daemon computer, that consumes present variables, number crunches them, and then spits it out as a concrete visualization of what it think could happen in the near future, from an hour from now, to the events from next year.”

Experience had long told her that any attempt to concretely visualize the future was a possibility only present in science-fiction or fantasy stories. It was a concept that was too good to be true, a fallacy borne out of wishful thinking and imagination. But given what she had learned about the operation and abilities of dimensional magic in the past six months, she was now more than willing to at least lend an open mind to the concept. Nonetheless, as she observed the object, her reservations still kept her judgment at bay.

“Nonetheless, you’re telling me it can only calculate the future based on the present then?”

“Precisely. It works on a similar principle to modern computer simulation programs, only several times more powerful.”

That explanation, she could accept without question.

“Ah, but the beauty of lies in it use of emotions as the biggest variable in its calculation.”

Now, her confusion once again resurfaced to this new information. “Emotion? In a Laplace Computer?”

“You must understand. Not everything is built for a serious purpose. Spheres like these were created for mindless entertainment and nothing more. What emotions you experience, and what thoughts enter your mind now will affect the image that the sphere projects. A happy emotion brings about happy scenarios, and a sad emotion creates a depressing scene. It’s a device meant to be crazy and unpredictable.”

She wasn’t quite sure she bought that one. Already the description of the device was a contradiction of functions. Though the intrigue brought by such an outlandish concept behind to what amounted to a future projection computer was ever-present, and slowly swaying her judgment.

“Try it.” The old man spoke as he worked. “The sphere works only through the input of strong emotional and mental thoughts of the recipient holding it. Once activated it will work automatically without further input.”

Doubt was still a big presence in her mind. Nonetheless, the very same scientific mind that created that doubt further fuelled her curiosity. There’s nothing she could lose if it didn’t work right? And if it did, she could expand her horizons further.

She made up her mind. She would try out the sphere, and determine the extent of its abilities… if it functioned at all.

“I’ll try it out then!”

“That’s all fine and dandy,” her uncle replied, but his next words puzzled her. “… but don’t try it out here. Or I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

“Won’t be able to sleep tonight? What did he mean?” She asked herself, as she continued to lie in her bed, looking up at the object, stubbornly refusing to work. The flows and currents inside the sphere seemed to taunt her with each spin, their unceasing motion a mockery to her mental intellect. Movement which could not be affected, or manipulated by anything she physically did to the object. And with each second she watched with no visible effect her frustration only grew to the point of irritation. Strong emotional and mental thoughts… what could she possibly do to force a reaction out of this thing?

The ringing of the phone was a welcome interruption from her current problem, and she put aside the bothersome sphere on the pillow to her left before picking up the phone.

“Good evening, Matsuri Miyama speaking!”

And the voice at the other end was none other than her Shinji.

“Oi, Konbawa!” He greeted cheerfully, albeit in a tired and huffing voice.

“Konbawa?”

“It’s… good evening… in Japanese.”

“Remind me again why I’m supposed to be Japanese?”

“Because… you were born there?”

“Asides from that flimsy reason. God I can’t even speak my own native language properly.” She paused, listening to his ragged breathing. He was almost wheezing, and coughing in between breaths.

“Shinji you alright? You sound tired.” She asked out of concern. It had only been a day since the three AI’s had been installed in their Matrix Projection bodies, and Kay had taken them out to various gyms and parks in the county, physically training them to better synchronize with their new bodies. And from what she had seen earlier in Seminole Park that day, Kay had been pushing them incredibly hard. Back-breaking physical exertion. Strength tests. Aerobic exercise. Repeated in an endless yet ever escalating cycle of difficulty, threatening to approach the breaking point, to the limit of their endurance.

“I’m… very much… okay.” His reply being broken as he tried to catch his breath. “Don’t worry about it! Tis’ is nuthin!” he replied, attempting a slanted accent, yet still breathing heavily. Despite his reassurance, her uneasy worry still lingered, and it was still evident in her voice.

“I know that your artificial bodies are tougher than most, but don’t overexert yourselves alright?”

“We won’t. Kay’s letting us rest for a few minutes now.” His voice was steadier now, and much clearer. “Thanks for you concern Matsuri. Suddenly feels like I can stay up all night for some more!”

“Hey, I didn’t warn you just so you can punish yourself some more!” she chided at him, and yet with a playful tone.

“Gomen gomen! But I never knew pushing my body to the limit felt this good though!”

His enthusiastic reply somehow brought a strange relief to her concerns, even if she still worried for his present condition. His breathing was softer now, almost soothing to hear. A relaxing hum emanating from his lips, through the earpiece and unto her own ears, where she enjoyed just hearing him breathe. It was a sound the calmed her nerves and eased her mind. She held on to the phone, wishing to hear every rhythm of him, closing her eyes to shut off the rest of the world.

Just him, and the sound of the life that flowed inside him.

“Matsuri?” Shinji asked concerned, breaking the silence.

“It’s alright, I’m still here.” She replied weakly, softly.

“Listening to something?”

“Just your breathing.”

“Oh?”

“It’s relaxing.”

He didn’t reply. But she still felt his unmistakable presence on the line through the sound of his respiration.

For that moment, that precious moment of silence between them, as she listened to his gentle inhalation. Even through this place in time devoid of sound, both conveyed more than they ever could with just their words. An understanding between them. His silence telling her how much he cared for the trivial things she loved. And she listened. Even for such a normally underappreciated act as living through the air that they depend on that most wouldn’t think twice about. The oxygen of this planet that they both shared. And so she listened, in the still emptiness of the night.

A beep from the receiver warned her of the end of this cherished moment.

“Next time Matsuri, I’ll get more quarters.”

“You do that.”

“Or I could spare the expense. Just throw me a hug, on the house. How’s that?”

She could only smile at the playful suggestion. “Unfair! Add in some extra kisses and we might just have a deal!”

“I accept your terms!”

In the background, an older female voice could be heard calling for Shinji through the earpiece.

“Break’s over that’s for sure. We’ll be up all night, so I’ll be seeing you tomorrow then.”

“Uhm.” She muttered softly in reply. “Remember what I told you. Try not to push yourself too hard alright?”

“I’ll try not to. Don’t know about Asuka and Rey though. They’re more eager than I am!”

“Tell them I said that as well!”

“I will! Goodnight then Matsuri!”

“And the same to you Shinji. Take care now!”

“Hai!”

And the other side hung up, ending the call.

A sigh escaped her lips as she replaced the receiver on its cradle, a sigh of contented happiness. She couldn’t have asked for a better way to end her day, and couldn’t imagine such a thing.

Sleep was beckoning for her, and she wanted to just pleasantly dream her way to tomorrow. All that was left to do was remove that bothersome yellow sphere on her pillow. Its activation can wait, and the day ahead would offer her lots of time to further ponder on its workings.

No sooner had she touched the sphere did it suddenly flare in a bright golden glow, startling her witless. Even as she hastily removed her hands the object kept glowing, its light gradually reducing in brightness and intensity.

And then she heard… breathing.

Respiration belonging to a young female voice. A female voice that moaned softly in between breaths. A voice that was uncannily and inexplicably familiar, like she had known that tone for her whole life.

Because it was unmistakably her own.

And as she gazed into the object, her eyes opened wide as they basked upon an indescribably amazing sight. An incredulous sight, so shocking, so unexpected, so far-fetched, so unbelievable, so astonishing that her mind went blank, and her wide gaping mouth could only utter two incomprehensible words…

“Oh my…”

I know that. My character's view of them cannot even be considered loathe really, more like ignorance in a different manner. He doesn't consider them people or worthy of being treated equally. He considers them... tools. Ah, that's the proper word.



You're better off calling them the Shiranuis.



So it's the same ol' same ol' with A's again. Which is why StrikerS never made me care much for these 'old' characters, because they never really tried to do anything different with them in the anime. Not much at least.

I repeat. SS02 has more development for Fate than 20 episodes of StrikerS. Yes, I'm bitter about that even now.

True. It's not just her military stature as an commander (( She was RF6's commander? Wha- Whe- )), and even the foreboding sub-plot on the ''military tool' thing (( manga chapter/Acous/etc hints )) and her combat role (( I'm a helpless damsel alone ))... Even her bloody emotional and fluff character development was shafted horribly.

Technically every single aspect of her character development was horribly slapped on her face.

What's all this Yugi business now? I understand what Chaos means, though...and an...effective way of countering it, Gale.

And, to you, Chaos, I like those new forms you posted. Took some inspiration from Transformers, I see. And about your comment of the bad guys not getting power...well, your Destroyers might fill that gap...

2)And assuming you can cut of their heads, then it would deal a MASSIVE amount of damage to them...

3)... Though some of them have enough vitality stats to survive, get someone to pick up that head, and attach it back now... The auto healing would do the rest

4)Oh right, I forgot, the auto healing (Very slow, like WoW slow) doesn't regenerate limps or large amounts of flesh, so someone has to pick up the pieces

@Gale: I know "Fox" saying the whole "I am like you" bit to Teana is a tad...odd, but I couldn't exactly do it with anyone else.

And I fully agree with you on more Hayate development. It just leads one to wonder what happened in the developers' minds in the character department, in a sense.

@haiz: Who might those characters be that you posted? As in, the pictures. They don't seem familiar to me...but I'm intrigued nonetheless.

@Aaron: I feel your pain too. I still don't know why they chose to shaft her- sheer laziness, most likely.

New material on my side is....well, none. But do expect the third part of Time Goes By. I'll seek to get that up as soon as possible.

“Well, you’re doing fine, Satoshi.” Derek Devero, the chief medical officer of the 216th Medical Bay concluded. “Jeez man, 3 weeks ago, you got the crap beat out of you. Now, you look like almost nothing happened to ya.”

“Heh, must have been the food.” Satoshi jokingly replied to him, a smile on his face. “And besides, I still got the bandages on.”

“Well, at least your sense of humor’s intact.”

“I guess I’m done then, right?”

“What do you think?”

Getting up, Satoshi headed for the door; the answer was obvious. “Thanks….later then.”

“See ya.” As Derek cleaned up, the Major went in. He was concerned about Satoshi, but not for his injuries. Rather, he was concerned on how fast he healed up. “So, what’s the news?” he asked.

“I’m not sure on how Satoshi healed up that quick.” Derek replied, looking down on the floor. He raised his head up, and added, “Ignoring that for now, at least he’s back in action.”

“I see….what about the headaches and the fainting?”

“Must be fatigue; I don’t see anything wrong with him on that.”

I see….alright then. I’ll be going now. Thanks.”

“No problem.”

As he left, he still could remember Asteright’s words, clear and simple in his head. “You can’t hide him from finding out who he was before.” Those words echoed in his head. “Is he coming back?” he thought to himself, stopping out of a hallway, where Satoshi was preparing to take Sydney to the Belkan Self-Administrated Region. Looking out a window, he shook his head. “No, it can’t.”
He then looked back to the two of them, remembering why they were going there.

10:27 A.M.

“Hey, look, it’s Satoshi and Sydney.” Vincent said to Satsuki and Margaret, pointing at the car nearby. Coming back from a bit of training, all of them wondered where in the world both of them were going. “Wonder where they’re going...” Margaret said.

“Oh man, I can think up of a number of reasons…” Vincent said to himself, thinking of a lot of stuff, laughing at each and everyone one of them quietly. “Keep those thoughts to yourself, would ya?”

“Shut up, Arvis. What’s with you and that right eye anyway?” Since the mission on Compound 34, Arvis took two days off last week to fix his artificial eye. When he came back, instead of his former color of black or even the color of his left eye, it was green.

“It feels fun to go up to someone and see that your right eye changed its color. I get a kick out of it.”

“You got to be kidding me.” Vincent replied, disappointed. “Let’s just check up on them, then.” Satsuki said before accidentally tripping. She would have smacked the ground hard, if it wasn’t for Vincent catching her. “A-Arigato…” Satsuki said to him shyly, blushing. “Y-Yeah…” he replied, blushing a bit too.

“And he’s the one that’s thinking up everything.” Arvis commented, batting an eye at him. Lian just giggled at the comment, getting his joke. As soon as Vince helped Satsuki up, Satoshi drove by, and rolled down the windows, wanting to talk to everyone. “So, I see you guys are done.”

“Yeah, we are.” Vincent replied. “Anyway, where are you two going at this time and in the same car?” he added, grinning.

“Hey, we’re just going to the Saint Church; nothing special.”

“Right….”

Forgetting about Vince for a moment, Satoshi turned to Arvis. “Hey, where’s Nobuyuki?”

“He’s off somewhere; we didn’t catch on where he was going.”

“Alright then, just asking. Anyway, take care, guys.” Before Satoshi rolled up the windows, he turned his attention to Vincent. “Looks like you and Satsuki have something in common, I see.” He smiled, and rolled up the windows, leaving an embarrassed Satsuki, a truly annoyed Vincent, a confused Margaret, and a laughing Arvis and Lian.

11:01 A.M.

Getting out of the car, both Satoshi and Sydney looked up at the sky for a bit. “It…it was today, right? The day-.” Sydney said quietly, seeming like she was holding something back. “Yeah…it was.” Satoshi replied, nodding. Both of them didn’t say another word as they headed in the Church.

“Well, you know the way, right?”

“Y-Yeah…”

“Alright then, I’ll be there after I’m done.”

Both of them parted ways, with Satoshi heading to Carim’s office. After searching for a while and asking some people on where it was, he finally found it.

“Hey there-.” Satoshi said before realizing that someone else was inside. “Chrono! My God, man, it’s been a while.”

He just smiled a bit, chucking that he managed to get Satoshi by surprise. “Didn’t expect me here, huh, Enforcer Kazukuni?”

“Well, Admiral Haralown, I never knew you spent so much time here.” Satoshi replied to him, taking a seat nearby. Realizing that he forgot about Carim, he turned to her, partly embarrassed. “I’m sorry about that, Paladin Carim.”

“Don’t worry about it, please.” she replied. “After all, we’re friends.”

“If you insist then…”

“So, Satoshi, what did you want to tell us both?” Chrono asked, since the Major had called both of them, wanting them to know about something. Carim then noticed something. “You came here with someone else. Where is she?”

Satoshi hesitated for a moment and then he spoke. “Well…she’s not here for this conversation…I just brought her here for another reason…”

She was not here for the sake of this conversation; Satoshi just needed to be by himself. As she approached a graveyard, a guard was nearby. After telling him the reason on why she was there, the guard let her in. “You’re free to pay your respects.”

“Thank you.” she said quietly to him. Taking some time to search the names on the tombstones, she finally found one. It was an average-sized one, with the name starting to fade. Still, she knew who was buried there. Biting her lip, she tried to hold back tears, but some came out; she couldn’t hold them for long.

11:04 A.M.

“Still, I wonder why both of them went to the SAR.” Satsuki said to everyone. “Do they have something important to do?”

“Maybe the Major does have something that they both have to do there.” Margaret said to her.

“I bet they’re just taking a vacation from work, leaving us in the dust.” Vincent replied, annoyed at both Satoshi and Sydney.

“I don’t think so.” Arvis countered. “They don’t seem the type to ditch.”

“I agree.” Lian replied, joining Arvis’ side.

“Well, we’ll never know, it seems.”

“So, you want to know why they’re there?” the Major said to all of them, hearing their conversation while following them. His presence surprised all of them, for the fact that he could appear out of nowhere.

“Old man, you have a weird habit….”

He just chuckled for a bit, then calmed down. “Well, I just have that habit, Vince.” he replied. He then reached for a pocket and took out an old picture. It was slightly faded and there were some scratches, but it was still good enough that you could still see who was on it. It showed the Major and Sky Squad, about 7 years ago. “There’s Satoshi…Sydney…the Major…” Margaret said, pointing out everyone. “Rachel…Nobuyuki…Anne…” There was only one person left, near Sydney and Satoshi, someone that Margaret couldn’t identify.

“Yacoby….” the Major said, quietly and sadly. “Who?” Vincent asked.

“Yacoby Gerian. He was a Neo-Belkan knight, assigned to our squad. He was like you, Vince. Maybe that’s partly why we chose you.”

“What happened to him?” Lian asked, while Vincent stayed silent. “He died on a mission…” he replied, stopping for a while. Trying to make out the words to tell the story, the Major seemed like he didn’t want to tell the story at all. “It was a simple mission; take out the generators of an electric plant that was supporting a group of rogue mages. We carried out our mission perfectly, with light resistance. That was until the last one. They ambushed us there, and we weren’t expecting it. He went in and took out that last generator…those mages got the walkway where he was, and he managed to get a hold of the edge. Sydney grabbed his hand and tried to pull him up, but…he released his grip and fell. It was this day he died….”

“…and so, that’s what we have encountered right now.” Satoshi said to both of them, and shutting off the screen.

“These Replicas are going to be a danger if they come out en masse.” Chrono said, thinking on how much havoc would cause the TSAB. “But why tell us and not Central Command?”

“We already have a while ago. We haven’t told any others for fear that this might get overblown.”

“I see…”

“They’re also somehow involved with the whole Relic case, but we’re not sure what.”

Carim and Chrono took some time to think about them, but Satoshi couldn’t stay any longer; a call came from 216th HQ. After opening it, it was Armay, with some news. “There’s been a report of some of those Replicas near a storage complex. The Major’s calling everyone to investigate.”

“Alright, I’ll be there.” As the screen closed, he moved towards the door. “Sorry to leave so early, but, as they say, duty calls.”

Going outside the Saint Church, Satoshi saw that Sydney was outside, and waiting for him. “So, you got the message?”

“Yeah…let’s go.”

12:05 P.M.

Both Satoshi and Sydney were up in the air, heading to the complex. A screen then showed up, and it was the Major. “As you both know, there have been reports of those Replicas showing up. We’ve been sent to investigate. Thunder Squad’s near the site, and some others will be helping us in this mission, namely the 79th Army Battalion. Drones have also been spotted in the area, so keep your guard up.”

“And why is the 79th going to help us?” Sydney asked. “They were near the area, so we asked for their help. You guys understand, right?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good luck, both of you.”

“Alright then. Sky 1 signing off.”

“Sky 2 signing off.”

“Let’s go, Sydney.”

“Right.”

Both of them then saw the King Raven, just a couple hundred feet from them. “This is Spec 4, going towards the landing site now.” Scuderia reported, confirming that he was not some wayward pilot going towards a mission site. “This is Sky 1, we see you, over.”

“Good; at least the sky’s safe….” Scuderia said to him, but he noticed something else in the direction of where he was supposed to be. Sydney noticed it too, and turned. Both of them saw a couple of those flying Drones heading towards them. “Great…they had to come.” Scuderia muttered over the screen.

“Relax, we’ll get them.” Satoshi said to him. “Just prepare for combat.”

“You got it.” As the screen closed, Satoshi and Sydney started making their attack run on those Drones.

“Gale Saber!”

“Blizzard Shotgun!”

Both of them sliced through the group, taking out several of them at once. Some managed to survive the initial attack, and were heading straight to the King Raven. Scuderia was ready to fight though, with the help of Vincent and Satsuki.

“Vince, hope you’re a good shot. Man the left Troika, now.” he ordered. “Satsuki, open the door, and prepare to snipe.”

“Got it.” Vince took over the Troika and started firing, taking out a few, but managing to scatter the rest off. “Ellis, Double Bullet.”

“[Alright then.]” She fired off four shots, all four of them only grazing the Drones. “Damn, have to adjust.” she thought to herself as she adjusted her shot. “Double Bullet.” This time, the bullets managed to hit the wings of those Drones, sending them in a spiral downwards. By this time, they were nearing the landing site; a roof on the southern side of the complex. Satoshi and Sydney were already there, waiting for them.

Down on the ground, Nobuyuki was finishing up on some unlucky Gadget Drones while Anne and Lian took out another group. Arvis was dealing with two of the big versions of the Drones, easily sending both of them onto each other. Nobuyuki took a look on the sky, and saw the King Raven moving out of where it was supposed to drop off the rest of Sky Squad.

“Good, they’re in.” he said to everyone else, and all of them moved towards the entrance. Before they could all get in, an explosion suddenly appeared in front of them, effectively destroying the entrance. As they looked back, all of them saw a large mechanical object, larger than the circular-shaped Drone they were just facing. It had 4 legs, two small arms that had what looked like to be revolving cylinders on the palms of it, and a cannon on the top, aimed straight at them. The object fired at them, first with its own cannon, then spraying the ground with fire from its arms.

“Damn it, this day is getting worse and worse…” Nobuyuki thought to himself as all of them took cover behind whatever they could find. “It’s too risky to approach it…I’ll use Scuderia’s help then.”

“Hey, Scuderia, open fire on that thing for us, would ya?” he said to him via screen communication.

“I’ll get started on it.” he replied, and started to head towards it. “Blitz Striker, set up the Troikas to auto-aim.”

“[Roger.]”

The Troikas started to move on their own, and Scuderia started his covering run.

12:07 P.M.

“This place is huge…” Margaret said to everyone commenting on the complex’s massive size. “It didn’t look like it when we landed….”

The room that they were in was stacked with boxes, piled very high, enough that someone could topple them and all of them would be crushed. Still wary of what might happen, they turned left, only to find a couple of bodies, all strewn around. Blood was on several boxes, and they looked like they were running away. Vincent went up to them and checked on what happened to them.

“They look like smugglers.”

“Smugglers? That’s a bit strange.”

“Yeah, it is.” Looking at their wounds, he saw several cuts and holes. “One thing’s certain, though. The Replicas got to them before us. And there’s someone using some sword or something here, too.”

“I see….” Satoshi replied, deciding on the next course of action. “This is a big area; if we stay in a group, they’ll find us first. Everyone, split up.”

“Isn’t that dangerous right now?” Sydney replied, concerned about it. “It’s a risk we have to take. Besides, if they get all of us, we’re as good as dead.”

“I agree with Satoshi; we should split up.” Vincent said. “Me too.” Satsuki added.

Sighing, Sydney went with the plan, and all of them headed in different directions at once.

12:11 P.M.

Taking a look around a corner, there was nothing in sight. “Good, no Replicas.” Satoshi thought as he moved towards an open area. “Eagle’s Eye.” he thought in his mind, and looked around for any enemies that were hiding. “None…” he thought as nothing showed up. Suddenly, he heard a scream from behind him, but before he could react, he was already sliding back, taking a hit from a flail. Only the timely intervention of Cipher’s auto-guard prevented a direct hit. Two scythe-like blades came in front of him, ready to strike him. “Mach Move!” Satoshi easily dodged both of them, but didn’t expect that the blades would arc back to him. Getting hit by both of them, he staggered back, only to get blasted by a couple of beams. He smacked into a couple of boxes, but slowly got up, coughing a bit of blood up in the process.

“So, this is the guy Sion wanted us to get?” someone said, appearing out of the shadows. He had a flail-like Device with him, with red-orange hair. “Yeah, that’s him.” someone else replied, having green hair and headphones. “Seems pretty weak…”

“Clotho, Shani, don’t underestimate him that much.” Another one came out of the shadows, with yellow green hair, and wielding two cannon-type Devices. “If Sion wants him, he must be pretty good.”

“Sion?” Satoshi wondered in his mind before remembering who he was. “So, these guys must be with Scagletti.”

“Relax, Orga, he’s as good as done.” Clotho said to him. “Hey, he’s getting up.”

Satoshi got on his feet, a bit of blood near his mouth. “I dunno who you guys are, but one thing’s for sure; you’re involved with Scagletti.” he said to all of them, wiping the blood off and getting into a combat stance. “3 on 1…not good.”

“[You said it.]”

12:13 P.M.

Vincent was slowly moving along, trying to see if there was anybody else waiting for him. He had already encountered a small group of Replicas, nothing too heard to handle, though. He had picked up one of their rifles, since he knew how to use them. As he pointed the rifle near a corner, it got shot out of his hands, but he managed to see that it was a magic-based shot. “Rogues?” Vincent thought. “Thunder Squad’s got the outside covered….maybe it’s the 79th….” He stepped out of the corner, only to be nearly shot by another magic-based shot. “Hey, watch it!” he yelled in the direction of where the shot appeared. Two guys suddenly appeared out of the boxes nearby.

“See, I told you it was someone from the TSAB.”

“Hey, I thought he was one of those…”

As they kept moving towards him, Vincent could easily recognize both of them. “Say it ain’t so…please tell me it’s not them…” he thought. “Who are you two?” he asked. “Who are we? Who are WE? We’re-“

“Great, the LineBackers….they just had to send you two.” Vincent said out loud, a bit ticked off and disappointed. “They’d think they would send someone else, but they just had to send you two.”

Before they could even bother to respond, another Replica showed up, this time wearing what looked like to be armor plates around it. It also had some sort of weapon that fired nails, as evidenced by its inability to shoot any of the three as they took cover. “Load Cartridge….Storm Magnum!” Smith’s shot hit the Replica straight in the chest, taking it out.

“Nice shot, Smith!” Wesson said to him, giving him a thumbs up. “I aim to please…” he replied with a grin on his face. As soon as that one Replica fell down, three others came in. “Lambda 4 is down!” They started firing on all them, the nails going over the place. “Maschinegeweher Faust!” Vincent yelled, making them take cover.

“[Fluch….]” Shell Bullet said, indicating that all the cartridges were used up. “This day just got from bad to crappy….” Vincent thought with a smile as he loaded spare cartridges.

12: 17 P.M.

“You think everyone’s okay for now?” Margaret asked to Satsuki. “I hope they are, especially Vince…I’m sure-.”

A sniper shot rang out, missing both of them clearly, but they took cover. “Margaret, go forward.” Satsuki quietly said to her. “I can find out where that sniper is.”

“Hai.” she replied back, and started moving. Suddenly, a boy, blond-haired and with sky blue eyes, appeared with two daggers and tried to stab Margaret. She dodged it, but didn’t expect that there was someone else there.

“Hollow-sama, what should I do now?” he said, apparently to himself. “Who are you talking to?” Margaret asked him, slightly annoyed. “She says that you and your Meister must die…too bad, we’re the same…” he replied to her, without emotion. “My name is July.” he added.

Meanwhile, up above, Hollow was looking down at Satsuki, Carrossea in Scharfschützeform. “I found you…”

12: 19 P.M.

Approaching a room, Sydney could hear several Replicas talking. “We got someone here; she was sneaking around-.”

“-then what should we do?”

“Mages are here. I think that we should-.”

“Great, someone who shouldn’t be here is…” she thought as she was readying to breach the room. “I have to make this quick.”

Breaking through the door, the Replicas were clearly surprised. “Ice Bullet!” she said, firing from all 4 barrels of Equinox. The Ice Bullets penetrated the armor of one Replica straight through, and she fell down, dead. The second one was stabbed by one of Apex’s blades, and the last fell when Sydney threw Apex’s other knife at her. All that was left was a woman, with chocolate brown hair in a ponytail wearing some sort of sunglasses. She was tied up, but that quickly changed as Sydney cut the ropes binding her. “Thanks…” she said, getting up and wiping the dust off her clothes. “Great, first artifact smugglers, now these soldiers.”

“Artifact smugglers?” Sydney asked, confused. “Yeah, they were based here, and I was gonna try to get some artifacts from them.”

“Those bodies from before must have been the smugglers.” Sydney thought, remembering about before. “Wait a minute, you’re TSAB, aren’t you?” she asked, suspicious of her. “Yeah, why?”

“That’s it, I’m out of here.” She started moving towards the exit, but Sydney tried to stop her. “You know you’re already in the middle of a military operation here.”

“So? There’s no good reason for me to stay here.” She continued on, and would have left if it wasn’t for noticing a black figure approach towards her from above. The figure barely missed her, cutting a part of her hair off. She jumped back a bit, forming her Barrier Jacket and a katana-shaped Device. Sydney then joined on where she was. “See? It’s either working with me or getting killed.” Sydney then turned his attention to the figure. “Wolf….”

“Ah, Megane.” he said to her, readying for battle. “I see you brought someone along.”

“Hey, I’m just here because I’m here.” the woman said to him.

“It makes no difference.”

“Damn it. Looks like I have to fight this time.” she thought to herself as she also readied for battle. Turning her attention to Sydney, she said, “Look, I’m gonna work with you…for now. In return, you don’t tell anyone that I was here.”

“Got it.” Sydney said to her. “By the way, what’s your name?”

“Mathis…Kay Mathis.”

Looking back to Black Wolf, Sydney could tell that they were gonna be in for a long day.

“Man…this is gonna be a day I’m gonna remember….”

Man, taking on 3 opponents @ once... and they're the Druggies... I don't think any of the 82nd would attempt that as they are now. Luck to Satoshi.

"Just to see my dreams of glory come true, I would gladly kill half of my family."

The Dragonslayer replied.

"You would kill any of your family? Then know this: I would DIE for any one of mine."

Esther summoned Trident, and grasping the Device, grinned a bizarre, twisted grin.

1) This is only the case when the Stain within them has evolved high enough to control very few parts of the host's brain. And even then, the Host has to be strong enough to control the Stain to control the pain.

3) VERY VERY few individuals. And that massive damage means 1-5% left... Like Keroko said, one flick and you could kill them.

4) Isn't this to be expected? And if you're wondering, the health bar doesn't regain health fast, and can only do it under non-combat situations...

Cuts and bruises and broken bones however, will heal.

Basically? Yes. Keroko's heart is not set upon anyone, though, but Jun currently has the most chance. If other people want it, they will have to jump higher then Jun to catch it.

It started of as crack. In the beginning people began throwing all the jerks at Keroko. It started with Serge, then Joseth before I threw Jun in in order to counter.

The main reason Jun has such a high chance is because A: he's not seemingly taken. B: Jun's intentions are obvious and C: Jun is simply a nice guy, once you get used to his strangeness.

Keroko is more familiar with these four then any other guy. Chrono, Yuuno and Kha she knows for many years. Most of the other Rogues kept a casual, sometimes brotherly additude to Keroko, but Jun was the only one showing romantic interest.

Somehow, I enjoyed writing about Matsuri more than my other OC's, despite the fact that she has no H4XX powers, no complex history, no cool devices, not even mage powers.

How do I make this work?”

Matsuri was curious. Incredibly curious. She looked at the object in front of her with discerning analyzing eyes, eyes that looked as though they can dismantle an object through the sheer act of viewing.

The object in question was an amber basketball-sized transparent sphere, mounted on a white flat circular base. Despite its smooth surface the interior of the ball appeared to compose of hundreds of small triangular golden facets, forming a complex polyhedron that glistened in the light. The entire surface of the structure seemed to be coated in a thin layer of some oil-like substance, which appeared to shift slowly across the shape, in a display of flowing streams, fleeting swirls and spirals. The patterns were a mesmerizing sight… and yet try as she might, she still could not discern the inner workings of the sphere.

She held the object in her hands as she plopped herself back on her soft bed, raising the sphere high above her as she stared at it once more. The sphere reflected and refracted the white light from the room’s ceiling mounted circular fluorescent lamp around itself, producing even more strange motions and delicate visual patterns. The sight could bring no consolation though and she sighed in resignation. Why was she so interested in it in the first place?

It was only a few hours ago that she had received this unusual object. Or rather, borrowed it.

She recalled how she had seen the object amongst the other rubble that her Uncle Turing seemed to have collected in his lab. The normally pristine room was filled in one corner with what appeared to be a heap of… stuff. Metallic bars, shiny rods, glowing staves, shining cubes, and other odd assortment of items of all shapes, sizes and colors littered the place haphazardly in, as she described it, “a macroscopic display of high entropy”. Translated from her scientifically derived terminology, it was an appallingly hideous example of complete and utter chaos, deprived of all semblance of order. Her only possible reaction was to sigh hopelessly at the sight, palm to face.

“Spring Cleaning.” Was the only explanation her Uncle provided for the disheveled mound as he shrugged, before returning his attentions to the monitor in front of him. At the very least, she took comfort in the fact that she would not be responsible for cleaning up this mess.

Amidst the mound, a soft yet bright golden glow had caught her eye, swamping all the other lights emitted by the multitude of other objects in the mound. Removing some red-rimmed orange goggles here, a small yellow conical spiral drill there, a red star shaped pair of shades, a bearded disembodied bald head in a bulb jar prop, and some other obstructions, she had managed to reach the source of the glow and retrieve it from the rubble.

“Uncle, you know what this is?” She asked her uncle, still looking at the glowing golden orb she held in front of her.

“That Matsuri, would be a precognitive extrapolation emotion sensor sphere. I prefer to just call it 'The Orb'.” The old uncle replied without even looking up at her.

Incredulity filled her tone. “Precognitive? As in to see the future?”

“In a way yes. It’s very much like Laplace Daemon computer, that consumes present variables, number crunches them, and then spits it out as a concrete visualization of what it think could happen in the near future, from an hour from now, to the events from next year.”

Experience had long told her that any attempt to concretely visualize the future was a possibility only present in science-fiction or fantasy stories. It was a concept that was too good to be true, a fallacy borne out of wishful thinking and imagination. But given what she had learned about the operation and abilities of dimensional magic in the past six months, she was now more than willing to at least lend an open mind to the concept. Nonetheless, as she observed the object, her reservations still kept her judgment at bay.

“Nonetheless, you’re telling me it can only calculate the future based on the present then?”

“Precisely. It works on a similar principle to modern computer simulation programs, only several times more powerful.”

That explanation, she could accept without question.

“Ah, but the beauty of lies in it use of emotions as the biggest variable in its calculation.”

Now, her confusion once again resurfaced to this new information. “Emotion? In a Laplace Computer?”

“You must understand. Not everything is built for a serious purpose. Spheres like these were created for mindless entertainment and nothing more. What emotions you experience, and what thoughts enter your mind now will affect the image that the sphere projects. A happy emotion brings about happy scenarios, and a sad emotion creates a depressing scene. It’s a device meant to be crazy and unpredictable.”

She wasn’t quite sure she bought that one. Already the description of the device was a contradiction of functions. Though the intrigue brought by such an outlandish concept behind to what amounted to a future projection computer was ever-present, and slowly swaying her judgment.

“Try it.” The old man spoke as he worked. “The sphere works only through the input of strong emotional and mental thoughts of the recipient holding it. Once activated it will work automatically without further input.”

Doubt was still a big presence in her mind. Nonetheless, the very same scientific mind that created that doubt further fuelled her curiosity. There’s nothing she could lose if it didn’t work right? And if it did, she could expand her horizons further.

She made up her mind. She would try out the sphere, and determine the extent of its abilities… if it functioned at all.

“I’ll try it out then!”

“That’s all fine and dandy,” her uncle replied, but his next words puzzled her. “… but don’t try it out here. Or I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

“Won’t be able to sleep tonight? What did he mean?” She asked herself, as she continued to lie in her bed, looking up at the object, stubbornly refusing to work. The flows and currents inside the sphere seemed to taunt her with each spin, their unceasing motion a mockery to her mental intellect. Movement which could not be affected, or manipulated by anything she physically did to the object. And with each second she watched with no visible effect her frustration only grew to the point of irritation. Strong emotional and mental thoughts… what could she possibly do to force a reaction out of this thing?

The ringing of the phone was a welcome interruption from her current problem, and she put aside the bothersome sphere on the pillow to her left before picking up the phone.

“Good evening, Matsuri Miyama speaking!”

And the voice at the other end was none other than her Shinji.

“Oi, Konbawa!” He greeted cheerfully, albeit in a tired and huffing voice.

“Konbawa?”

“It’s… good evening… in Japanese.”

“Remind me again why I’m supposed to be Japanese?”

“Because… you were born there?”

“Asides from that flimsy reason. God I can’t even speak my own native language properly.” She paused, listening to his ragged breathing. He was almost wheezing, and coughing in between breaths.

“Shinji you alright? You sound tired.” She asked out of concern. It had only been a day since the three AI’s had been installed in their Matrix Projection bodies, and Kay had taken them out to various gyms and parks in the county, physically training them to better synchronize with their new bodies. And from what she had seen earlier in Seminole Park that day, Kay had been pushing them incredibly hard. Back-breaking physical exertion. Strength tests. Aerobic exercise. Repeated in an endless yet ever escalating cycle of difficulty, threatening to approach the breaking point, to the limit of their endurance.

“I’m… very much… okay.” His reply being broken as he tried to catch his breath. “Don’t worry about it! Tis’ is nuthin!” he replied, attempting a slanted accent, yet still breathing heavily. Despite his reassurance, her uneasy worry still lingered, and it was still evident in her voice.

“I know that your artificial bodies are tougher than most, but don’t overexert yourselves alright?”

“We won’t. Kay’s letting us rest for a few minutes now.” His voice was steadier now, and much clearer. “Thanks for you concern Matsuri. Suddenly feels like I can stay up all night for some more!”

“Hey, I didn’t warn you just so you can punish yourself some more!” she chided at him, and yet with a playful tone.

“Gomen gomen! But I never knew pushing my body to the limit felt this good though!”

His enthusiastic reply somehow brought a strange relief to her concerns, even if she still worried for his present condition. His breathing was softer now, almost soothing to hear. A relaxing hum emanating from his lips, through the earpiece and unto her own ears, where she enjoyed just hearing him breathe. It was a sound the calmed her nerves and eased her mind. She held on to the phone, wishing to hear every rhythm of him, closing her eyes to shut off the rest of the world.

Just him, and the sound of the life that flowed inside him.

“Matsuri?” Shinji asked concerned, breaking the silence.

“It’s alright, I’m still here.” She replied weakly, softly.

“Listening to something?”

“Just your breathing.”

“Oh?”

“It’s relaxing.”

He didn’t reply. But she still felt his unmistakable presence on the line through the sound of his respiration.

For that moment, that precious moment of silence between them, as she listened to his gentle inhalation. Even through this place in time devoid of sound, both conveyed more than they ever could with just their words. An understanding between them. His silence telling her how much he cared for the trivial things she loved. And she listened. Even for such a normally underappreciated act as living through the air that they depend on that most wouldn’t think twice about. The oxygen of this planet that they both shared. And so she listened, in the still emptiness of the night.

A beep from the receiver warned her of the end of this cherished moment.

“Next time Matsuri, I’ll get more quarters.”

“You do that.”

“Or I could spare the expense. Just throw me a hug, on the house. How’s that?”

She could only smile at the playful suggestion. “Unfair! Add in some extra kisses and we might just have a deal!”

“I accept your terms!”

In the background, an older female voice could be heard calling for Shinji through the earpiece.

“Break’s over that’s for sure. We’ll be up all night, so I’ll be seeing you tomorrow then.”

“Uhm.” She muttered softly in reply. “Remember what I told you. Try not to push yourself too hard alright?”

“I’ll try not to. Don’t know about Asuka and Rey though. They’re more eager than I am!”

“Tell them I said that as well!”

“I will! Goodnight then Matsuri!”

“And the same to you Shinji. Take care now!”

“Hai!”

And the other side hung up, ending the call.

A sigh escaped her lips as she replaced the receiver on its cradle, a sigh of contented happiness. She couldn’t have asked for a better way to end her day, and couldn’t imagine such a thing.

Sleep was beckoning for her, and she wanted to just pleasantly dream her way to tomorrow. All that was left to do was remove that bothersome yellow sphere on her pillow. Its activation can wait, and the day ahead would offer her lots of time to further ponder on its workings.

No sooner had she touched the sphere did it suddenly flare in a bright golden glow, startling her witless. Even as she hastily removed her hands the object kept glowing, its light gradually reducing in brightness and intensity.

And then she heard… breathing.

Respiration belonging to a young female voice. A female voice that moaned softly in between breaths. A voice that was uncannily and inexplicably familiar, like she had known that tone for her whole life.

Because it was unmistakably her own.

And as she gazed into the object, her eyes opened wide as they basked upon an indescribably amazing sight. An incredulous sight, so shocking, so unexpected, so far-fetched, so unbelievable, so astonishing that her mind went blank, and her wide gaping mouth could only utter two incomprehensible words…

“Oh my…”

Heh, I can relate. For most parts, I'd rather write something simple and subdued as well. But I can't really do so now.

As for the piece itself...

Doesn't feel as sweet, but it was nice too. The whole swirl, and flow thing... the goggles, the emotion machine... that's what I got on my side.

A sigh escaped her lips as she replaced the receiver on its cradle, a sigh of contented happiness. She couldn’t have asked for a better way to end her day, and couldn’t imagine such a thing.

Sleep was beckoning for her, and she wanted to just pleasantly dream her way to tomorrow. All that was left to do was remove that bothersome yellow sphere on her pillow. Its activation can wait, and the day ahead would offer her lots of time to further ponder on its workings.

No sooner had she touched the sphere did it suddenly flare in a bright golden glow, startling her witless. Even as she hastily removed her hands the object kept glowing, its light gradually reducing in brightness and intensity.

And then she heard… breathing.

Respiration belonging to a young female voice. A female voice that moaned softly in between breaths. A voice that was uncannily and inexplicably familiar, like she had known that tone for her whole life.

Because it was unmistakably her own.

And as she gazed into the object, her eyes opened wide as they basked upon an indescribably amazing sight. An incredulous sight, so shocking, so unexpected, so far-fetched, so unbelievable, so astonishing that her mind went blank, and her wide gaping mouth could only utter two incomprehensible words…

“Oh my…”

Oops, I didn't know that. I noted that Fate made that transformation, but then I remembered AltS took place just after A's Epilogue, or that day was Kha's first day at school (insert Sagara jokes here. ), which would mean it'll be too soon, so I guess the ribbon should've gone to Keroko.

But it doesn't close the chance for Keroko to give that to Kha... Wow Zelda Ribbon Trading Game.

The main reason Jun has such a high chance is because A: he's not seemingly taken. B: Jun's intentions are obvious and C: Jun is simply a nice guy, once you get used to his strangeness.

It was my fault, but heck that was helluva fun, and it forced Jun to appear, which is even better because the choice is so unique!

A deafening roar whipped up as the sound of whirring rotors made itself more audible by the second. Teana winced as a sheet of snow was sent her way, covering her eyes. Still grasping Cross Mirage tightly, she looked through the snow and up at what was in the air above her.

It was a kind of helicopter, with a single set of rotary blades. It was medium in terms of width, and its cockpit was, oddly, rather bulbous. The most worrying feature of it was that it had weapon racks on either side of the fuselage, and both were stacked to the brim.

Nevertheless, in an act of what appeared to be defiance or, at least, to the machine's pilot, craziness, she levered her firearm upwards, aiming at the front of the craft- but it was only then that she noticed who was piloting it.

The figure was shadowed due to the glass of the cockpit, but she could see it was a male, who didn't seem to look much older than she was, judging by what she saw of his physique. He appeared to have rather smooth hair, too, though she couldn't discern the color of his eyes, and he was wearing a kind of trench coat.

The orange-haired mage waited, almost in anticipation, and fully aware of the fearsome arsenal the helicopter bore. What she received, however, was not a salvo of rocket fire and gun bursts, but, rather, a few words of welcome from the pilot himself. His voice was cold, snide, and carefully mixed with vehemence.

Somehow, I enjoyed writing about Matsuri more than my other OC's, despite the fact that she has no H4XX powers, no complex history, no cool devices, not even mage powers.

Which in turn made me think up of a scenario sooooooo freaking.... you'll just have to read to find out.

“Now…

How do I make this work?”

Matsuri was curious. Incredibly curious. She looked at the object in front of her with discerning analyzing eyes, eyes that looked as though they can dismantle an object through the sheer act of viewing.

The object in question was an amber basketball-sized transparent sphere, mounted on a white flat circular base. Despite its smooth surface the interior of the ball appeared to compose of hundreds of small triangular golden facets, forming a complex polyhedron that glistened in the light. The entire surface of the structure seemed to be coated in a thin layer of some oil-like substance, which appeared to shift slowly across the shape, in a display of flowing streams, fleeting swirls and spirals. The patterns were a mesmerizing sight… and yet try as she might, she still could not discern the inner workings of the sphere.

She held the object in her hands as she plopped herself back on her soft bed, raising the sphere high above her as she stared at it once more. The sphere reflected and refracted the white light from the room’s ceiling mounted circular fluorescent lamp around itself, producing even more strange motions and delicate visual patterns. The sight could bring no consolation though and she sighed in resignation. Why was she so interested in it in the first place?

It was only a few hours ago that she had received this unusual object. Or rather, borrowed it.

She recalled how she had seen the object amongst the other rubble that her Uncle Turing seemed to have collected in his lab. The normally pristine room was filled in one corner with what appeared to be a heap of… stuff. Metallic bars, shiny rods, glowing staves, shining cubes, and other odd assortment of items of all shapes, sizes and colors littered the place haphazardly in, as she described it, “a macroscopic display of high entropy”. Translated from her scientifically derived terminology, it was an appallingly hideous example of complete and utter chaos, deprived of all semblance of order. Her only possible reaction was to sigh hopelessly at the sight, palm to face.

“Spring Cleaning.” Was the only explanation her Uncle provided for the disheveled mound as he shrugged, before returning his attentions to the monitor in front of him. At the very least, she took comfort in the fact that she would not be responsible for cleaning up this mess.

Amidst the mound, a soft yet bright golden glow had caught her eye, swamping all the other lights emitted by the multitude of other objects in the mound. Removing some red-rimmed orange goggles here, a small yellow conical spiral drill there, a red star shaped pair of shades, a bearded disembodied bald head in a bulb jar prop, and some other obstructions, she had managed to reach the source of the glow and retrieve it from the rubble.

“Uncle, you know what this is?” She asked her uncle, still looking at the glowing golden orb she held in front of her.

“That Matsuri, would be a precognitive extrapolation emotion sensor sphere. I prefer to just call it 'The Orb'.” The old uncle replied without even looking up at her.

Incredulity filled her tone. “Precognitive? As in to see the future?”

“In a way yes. It’s very much like Laplace Daemon computer, that consumes present variables, number crunches them, and then spits it out as a concrete visualization of what it think could happen in the near future, from an hour from now, to the events from next year.”

Experience had long told her that any attempt to concretely visualize the future was a possibility only present in science-fiction or fantasy stories. It was a concept that was too good to be true, a fallacy borne out of wishful thinking and imagination. But given what she had learned about the operation and abilities of dimensional magic in the past six months, she was now more than willing to at least lend an open mind to the concept. Nonetheless, as she observed the object, her reservations still kept her judgment at bay.

“Nonetheless, you’re telling me it can only calculate the future based on the present then?”

“Precisely. It works on a similar principle to modern computer simulation programs, only several times more powerful.”

That explanation, she could accept without question.

“Ah, but the beauty of lies in it use of emotions as the biggest variable in its calculation.”

Now, her confusion once again resurfaced to this new information. “Emotion? In a Laplace Computer?”

“You must understand. Not everything is built for a serious purpose. Spheres like these were created for mindless entertainment and nothing more. What emotions you experience, and what thoughts enter your mind now will affect the image that the sphere projects. A happy emotion brings about happy scenarios, and a sad emotion creates a depressing scene. It’s a device meant to be crazy and unpredictable.”

She wasn’t quite sure she bought that one. Already the description of the device was a contradiction of functions. Though the intrigue brought by such an outlandish concept behind to what amounted to a future projection computer was ever-present, and slowly swaying her judgment.

“Try it.” The old man spoke as he worked. “The sphere works only through the input of strong emotional and mental thoughts of the recipient holding it. Once activated it will work automatically without further input.”

Doubt was still a big presence in her mind. Nonetheless, the very same scientific mind that created that doubt further fuelled her curiosity. There’s nothing she could lose if it didn’t work right? And if it did, she could expand her horizons further.

She made up her mind. She would try out the sphere, and determine the extent of its abilities… if it functioned at all.

“I’ll try it out then!”

“That’s all fine and dandy,” her uncle replied, but his next words puzzled her. “… but don’t try it out here. Or I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

“Won’t be able to sleep tonight? What did he mean?” She asked herself, as she continued to lie in her bed, looking up at the object, stubbornly refusing to work. The flows and currents inside the sphere seemed to taunt her with each spin, their unceasing motion a mockery to her mental intellect. Movement which could not be affected, or manipulated by anything she physically did to the object. And with each second she watched with no visible effect her frustration only grew to the point of irritation. Strong emotional and mental thoughts… what could she possibly do to force a reaction out of this thing?

The ringing of the phone was a welcome interruption from her current problem, and she put aside the bothersome sphere on the pillow to her left before picking up the phone.

“Good evening, Matsuri Miyama speaking!”

And the voice at the other end was none other than her Shinji.

“Oi, Konbawa!” He greeted cheerfully, albeit in a tired and huffing voice.

“Konbawa?”

“It’s… good evening… in Japanese.”

“Remind me again why I’m supposed to be Japanese?”

“Because… you were born there?”

“Asides from that flimsy reason. God I can’t even speak my own native language properly.” She paused, listening to his ragged breathing. He was almost wheezing, and coughing in between breaths.

“Shinji you alright? You sound tired.” She asked out of concern. It had only been a day since the three AI’s had been installed in their Matrix Projection bodies, and Kay had taken them out to various gyms and parks in the county, physically training them to better synchronize with their new bodies. And from what she had seen earlier in Seminole Park that day, Kay had been pushing them incredibly hard. Back-breaking physical exertion. Strength tests. Aerobic exercise. Repeated in an endless yet ever escalating cycle of difficulty, threatening to approach the breaking point, to the limit of their endurance.

“I’m… very much… okay.” His reply being broken as he tried to catch his breath. “Don’t worry about it! Tis’ is nuthin!” he replied, attempting a slanted accent, yet still breathing heavily. Despite his reassurance, her uneasy worry still lingered, and it was still evident in her voice.

“I know that your artificial bodies are tougher than most, but don’t overexert yourselves alright?”

“We won’t. Kay’s letting us rest for a few minutes now.” His voice was steadier now, and much clearer. “Thanks for you concern Matsuri. Suddenly feels like I can stay up all night for some more!”

“Hey, I didn’t warn you just so you can punish yourself some more!” she chided at him, and yet with a playful tone.

“Gomen gomen! But I never knew pushing my body to the limit felt this good though!”

His enthusiastic reply somehow brought a strange relief to her concerns, even if she still worried for his present condition. His breathing was softer now, almost soothing to hear. A relaxing hum emanating from his lips, through the earpiece and unto her own ears, where she enjoyed just hearing him breathe. It was a sound the calmed her nerves and eased her mind. She held on to the phone, wishing to hear every rhythm of him, closing her eyes to shut off the rest of the world.

Just him, and the sound of the life that flowed inside him.

“Matsuri?” Shinji asked concerned, breaking the silence.

“It’s alright, I’m still here.” She replied weakly, softly.

“Listening to something?”

“Just your breathing.”

“Oh?”

“It’s relaxing.”

He didn’t reply. But she still felt his unmistakable presence on the line through the sound of his respiration.

For that moment, that precious moment of silence between them, as she listened to his gentle inhalation. Even through this place in time devoid of sound, both conveyed more than they ever could with just their words. An understanding between them. His silence telling her how much he cared for the trivial things she loved. And she listened. Even for such a normally underappreciated act as living through the air that they depend on that most wouldn’t think twice about. The oxygen of this planet that they both shared. And so she listened, in the still emptiness of the night.

A beep from the receiver warned her of the end of this cherished moment.

“Next time Matsuri, I’ll get more quarters.”

“You do that.”

“Or I could spare the expense. Just throw me a hug, on the house. How’s that?”

She could only smile at the playful suggestion. “Unfair! Add in some extra kisses and we might just have a deal!”

“I accept your terms!”

In the background, an older female voice could be heard calling for Shinji through the earpiece.

“Break’s over that’s for sure. We’ll be up all night, so I’ll be seeing you tomorrow then.”

“Uhm.” She muttered softly in reply. “Remember what I told you. Try not to push yourself too hard alright?”

“I’ll try not to. Don’t know about Asuka and Rey though. They’re more eager than I am!”

“Tell them I said that as well!”

“I will! Goodnight then Matsuri!”

“And the same to you Shinji. Take care now!”

“Hai!”

And the other side hung up, ending the call.

Mid-childa was facing a threat like never before, as worries seep into the heart of Mid-childa, with only repetitive news of the possible threat looming the skies above Mid-childa, the battleship from the times of Ancient Belka, the Cradle flew higher and higher…

There was only slightly over 2 hours more till optimal point…

Ragna, being pulled away by the nurse, hasting her to evacuate too, as to not disturb her brother who was still severely injured. As she slightly took a slight turn to the corner, losing the sight of the door that lead to where her brother is… her last glimpse of her only good eye was the vague distinction of an opening wooden door from that hallway, though which being unclear to her due to her inability to make out depth from afar, as the sight of a limping blue wolf covered in bandages…

As they continued walking, a young man leaned by the wall of the long corridors, as he took a slight hint, glaring at the pair of girls, as he straightened up, tossing the bottle of water he was drinking into the dustbin a meter away behind him without turning back…

“Joseth-san…”

Joseth only took an even more aggressive glare as he heard his name being called, but it was directed to the nurse instead. Ragna walked up to him, as she let herself go from the nurse. The both of them were silent for a while, as the nurse then broke the silence, as she said, “Things are dangerous in the current situation. It is advisa-“

Joseth hissed angrily, as his eyes looked almost bloodthirsty and bloodshot looking at the nurse, which prompted her to take her leave instantly. Ragna too, despite not being lashed out, looked almost fearful at the anomosity behind his presence…

“You didn’t have to do that, you know…”

“People who don’t know their place shouldn’t talk about things they are unaware about.”

Ragna stayed silent following that, as if unsatisfied, but unable to retort back… as Joseth then asked her a question of his own.

“Are you satisfied?”

Ragna didn’t answer, as Joseth then smirked, as if anticipating her reaction.

“I see. So he’s still being that asshole he is, even when his sister went to cheer him up.”

“Onii-chan is not-“

“Don’t even try to say otherwise, Ragna. Nothing justifies running away from guilt. Even more so when he’s family. Even more so when he’s a sniper. No matter what the reason, it never changed the fact that he ran away from his responsibilities as a soldier and a brother when he resigned and ran away from you… to become the jock he is at the moment.”

Joseth’s words hit hard, as he spoke all those without so much flinching, sharp and acute to the point, as he demeans Vice with each word spoken.

“Even so, he is still my brother… and I still love him.” That was the only answer Ragna could make out. There was no need for rationale. They’re siblings… it was only natural that she cared for her older brother, and even after he chose to burn his bridges of blood, she still wanted things to go back as they were years ago…

When they were truly happy as a brother and sister.

“Like idiot, like an idiot. Hmph. Do as you wish… how you siblings want to live out your lives is up to your own hands. Just don’t waste it on futility.”

Joseth gave a last pep-talk as he turned away, and walked away.

“Ano…thanks a lot for driving me here!” Ragna bowed as she faced his back, walking away. He didn’t respond, but she knew he cared for the fact that she wanted to meet her brother, whom she learned of her condition from Shamal. Otherwise, someone as selfish as him would never bother…

Maybe it’s because he has no siblings in his life…

As Joseth walked away, as he opened the outward gates, walking back to his car… he noticed something in particular through the window pane…

“That is…that artificial familiar of that commander Yagami…”

And another man, with an arm cemented, as he slowly tried to make his way, holding a small tag in his hand…

“Vice…”

A last smirk played up his face, as he started his car’s engine, and pressing a few more buttons, made the car afloat, as segments of the car transformed to reveal some jet-like structures and floaters…

He activated one panel as his voice transmitted out to Vice.

“To do what only you can, to do what you should… You decide on your own. If you’re still faltering even now, then you truly have failed as a man… The next time we meet, let’s meet on the fields again.”

With that, his car formed aside as he left the hospital perimeters, afloat around the city center, as rising up towards the sky, he could see the barrage of drones, as the line of defense holds up...

Alto was pressing her gears as she professionally charged her heli around the central buildings as she tried to evade the pursuit of the drones. The spinning was intense, as she pressed the controls upwards, trying to push the vertical game across the building landscapes against the smaller drones.

Beams were shot, just as shields were uphelded.

"Klarwind!"

Shamal was inside, protecting the helicopter, but with limited movement, she couldn't do much as she could only rely on herself and Alto. It was only a while more till they reached the hospital... only a while more before she and Zafira could be of assistance...

Out of nowhere, 2 Type-3s appeared in front of the helicopter from the lower ground...

"Argh!" Alto panicked, as she tried to evade, but just as the Type-3s tried to release its beam towards the pilot...

[X-Mode, Double Shoot.]

A pair of shots struck the drones with a small, pinpoint accuracy, as the Drones did not explode in front of the heli, but merely stopped moving as it dropped downwards to the ground. Alto reaffirmed herself to take note of that sudden assist, before noticing a car flying past her.

"You've still got a long way to go, woman. Your piss poor good-for-nothing senior is waiting for you."

That was Joseth's last words. And it was only his own, as no one else heard it.

Since Rein apparently can't fly fast enough to match a helicopter's speed, so I presume Shamal's not that much different herself.

What the hell... First, Fate's Sonic Form & Riot Zamber to cater to Kha's interest... Then Nanoha's extreme endgame beamspamming for Keroko...

None for me? If they can't give me character development, the least they could do is to give me at least a passable amount of fanservice... The most I got from this episode is a good look on Hayate's appearance in Unison... and then her flying... But no fighting......

Naze da? Plot, screwed... Character development, almost nonexistent. Fanservice, letting me see her swinging her staff or taking a pose but no attack. I'm royally, totally, absolutely, completely, extremely, undisputedly, painfully, gut-wrenchigly, mercilessly, heartlessly, screwed from almost all sides of the spectrum! I turn on my mind, several things plague me. I turn off my brain, I'm still disappointed! I try to find a balance, there is none! WHY?!?!?!

Just as seeing the Sonic Form + Riot Zamber thing doesn't make me think that Ep. 24 became better than what it was because stuff like that was superficial. Just like Blaster Mode. Which is why I find characters like Jail and Quattro very likable within StrikerS context. I don't really give a damn about how 'moe' or likable, or stuff like that about the characters. What values to me is how the characters work within the context of the setting, and despite not being of full potential, Jail and Quattro were 2 pair that managed to make me feel that watching StrikerS was worth it. Just like Subaru and Teana. But I cannot say the same for a lot of other characters.

As far as I'm personally concerned, it was very weak. Better than some of the rest, but that's not saying much. Anyway, that's my personal view.

At least I can say that my favorite characters in the series were Teana and Scaglietti, so I dont feel as bad as Aaron. I dont know if you guys recall, but I was all emo about Teana getting shafted after episode 9...and worrying that she wont get any good action at the end...but she did.

I feel the same as Keroko, though--the lack of exposure for some characters, such as Lutecia, Zest, the Numbers, Erio and Caro, and of course Hayate, has made me not care about them as much as I would have liked. I blame the Sound Stages and the Manga chapters. StrikerS would have been at least somewhat better without them.

At least I gotta say, as soon as I saw Vivio I knew that the series was going to go downhill... and it did... so I wasnt as surprised...

This is Fenix's high speed combat flight mode and is the result of several life-threatening experiences during his 2 month spartan training. In this mode, the gauntlets are gone and the mantle doubles it's size.

A portion of the mantle forms a rough protection over his head, the rest of it spreads out like a wing shape pattern. Fenix is able to reach sonic speeds with this, the flaming star cause when he flies as well as the loud 'screaming' is what gives it it's name.

However, Fenix is unable to stop or go slower than a certain velocity in this mode. His armor and melee capabilities are also reduced, but in return he gains a bunch of powerful long to extreme range spells.

Talk about Starscream mode being peripatetic

The figure was shadowed due to the glass of the cockpit, but she could see it was a male, who didn't seem to look much older than she was, judging by what she saw of his physique. He appeared to have rather smooth hair, too, though she couldn't discern the color of his eyes, and he was wearing a kind of trench coat.

The orange-haired mage waited, almost in anticipation, and fully aware of the fearsome arsenal the helicopter bore. What she received, however, was not a salvo of rocket fire and gun bursts, but, rather, a few words of welcome from the pilot himself. His voice was cold, snide, and carefully mixed with vehemence.

"Hello...sister!"

Joseth gave a last pep-talk as he turned away, and walked away.

“Ano…thanks a lot for driving me here!” Ragna bowed as she faced his back, walking away. He didn’t respond, but she knew he cared for the fact that she wanted to meet her brother, whom she learned of her condition from Shamal. Otherwise, someone as selfish as him would never bother…

Maybe it’s because he has no siblings in his life…

As Joseth walked away, as he opened the outward gates, walking back to his car… he noticed something in particular through the window pane…

“That is…that artificial familiar of that commander Yagami…”

And another man, with an arm cemented, as he slowly tried to make his way, holding a small tag in his hand…

“Vice…”

A last smirk played up his face, as he started his car’s engine, and pressing a few more buttons, made the car afloat, as segments of the car transformed to reveal some jet-like structures and floaters…

He activated one panel as his voice transmitted out to Vice.

“To do what only you can, to do what you should… You decide on your own. If you’re still faltering even now, then you truly have failed as a man… The next time we meet, let’s meet on the fields again.”

With that, his car formed aside as he left the hospital perimeters, afloat around the city center, as rising up towards the sky, he could see the barrage of drones, as the line of defense holds up...

Alto was pressing her gears as she professionally charged her heli around the central buildings as she tried to evade the pursuit of the drones. The spinning was intense, as she pressed the controls upwards, trying to push the vertical game across the building landscapes against the smaller drones.

Beams were shot, just as shields were uphelded.

"Klarwind!"

Shamal was inside, protecting the helicopter, but with limited movement, she couldn't do much as she could only rely on herself and Alto. It was only a while more till they reached the hospital... only a while more before she and Zafira could be of assistance...

Out of nowhere, 2 Type-3s appeared in front of the helicopter from the lower ground...

"Argh!" Alto panicked, as she tried to evade, but just as the Type-3s tried to release its beam towards the pilot...

[X-Mode, Double Shoot.]

A pair of shots struck the drones with a small, pinpoint accuracy, as the Drones did not explode in front of the heli, but merely stopped moving as it dropped downwards to the ground. Alto reaffirmed herself to take note of that sudden assist, before noticing a car flying past her.

"You've still got a long way to go, woman. Your piss poor good-for-nothing senior is waiting for you."

That was Joseth's last words. And it was only his own, as no one else heard it.

Since Rein apparently can't fly fast enough to match a helicopter's speed, so I presume Shamal's not that much different herself.

There is no breaking destiny sometimes. Sometimes, going with destiny is best.

Joseth is one heck of a tsundere! How DO you manage such varied characters?! I certainly can't.

After some planning with Erio, we've come up with a rather devious plan to develop our resident daemon hunter, and so to facilitate that some of my arcs are undergoing renaming. The five arcs are now:

Strike Lightning
CrosyS
Hollow Ataraxia
I-n's
LerykS

Hollow Ataraxia means Empty/False Peace, and in a way it perfectly describes the bloody lull before the massive storm while Jail moved his pieces unchecked. This ALSO means we're gonna get a new OP, as Ignited is way too hotblooded for such an Arc.

With the old Kha's Counterattack arc retooled to move heavily on progressing the Kha's Relic plotline, as well as several other Relic incidents, this is better named as LerykS.

Kha's Counterattack will be the name of a new post-StrikerS arc we're planning. As always, I'll try to keep the h4xx down (), but expect good fun I hope.

Joseth only took an even more aggressive glare as he heard his name being called, but it was directed to the nurse instead. Ragna walked up to him, as she let herself go from the nurse. The both of them were silent for a while, as the nurse then broke the silence, as she said, “Things are dangerous in the current situation. It is advisa-“

“Who are you to give me orders, bitch?”

Joseth hissed angrily, as his eyes looked almost bloodthirsty and bloodshot looking at the nurse, which prompted her to take her leave instantly. Ragna too, despite not being lashed out, looked almost fearful at the anomosity behind his presence…

“You didn’t have to do that, you know…”

“People who don’t know their place shouldn’t talk about things they are unaware about.”

Ragna stayed silent following that, as if unsatisfied, but unable to retort back… as Joseth then asked her a question of his own.

QFT. I went from neutral to urgh because of NXF'ers, especially the individual I shall not mention. It's been so bad for me that even seeing Nanoha or Fate makes me go bleh at times.

I'll bang that OP out once I'm done with exams this wed. I can say that the title is "hollow".

Leryk is, like A's = Ace and I-n's = Einst, a play on the sounds of Relic, then swapped the R's and L's around, since to the Japanese these two letters are the same, and hence I got Lerik. Now since that looked weird, I changed I to Y, getting Leryk.

Since we're dealing with Relics rather than one Relic, I added the plural S and *poof* it became LerykS!

Just so that other people can see my thinking:

Strike Lightning

The first arc has heavy Lightning development from Kha's view point. Also, both Kha and Fate teach decisiveness and speed as the keys to victory, and in a way, one should Strike like Lightning before a defence can be mounted.

The main driving force for the title selection was that the manga for that early arc was called Starting Stars, so I wanted a Lightning counterpart. Starting Lightning sounded weird, then Strike came along. Nice.

And lastly, it was a nod to the Lightning Strike Freedom Gundam model, except this time, instead of Strike Freedom, it's Strike Lightning.

When a piece of body tissue is deprived of nutrients or becomes diseased, it sometimes dies and festers into a semi-solid disgusting state, the necrotic state. This process of called necrosis. We see that the Necrons are involved in this arc, so the title hints at them. Also, the arc involves a "festering wound" in the Church, and as Inquisitors, Kha and the 21ste Dreikeiten have to cut away this "necrotic" flesh. NecrosyS sounded awful, so I dropped the Ne, making the title sound like Crisis, which it is, in every sense of the word.
