Kawamori, you have truly created one of the most despised villains in Macross history. I should say kudos, but I am not too sure if I should...

Keith won fair and square in the duel. Hayate also murdered one of Keith's teammate in the previous episodes.

I'm not sure about the most despised, but I still hate Kaifun more than anyone in Macross series.

Well, I guess that's it for the Keith/Messer/Kaname/Arad thing... I guess poor Messer had to die so that Hayate can officially become the ace and have a justified grudge against Keith so they could start having their own rivalry.

That said, I don't think Keith was particularly villainous in this battle. He respected Messer's abilities, they had a fair fight and Keith just happened to win.

Back at home with poor little Heinz, though... I'm sure Keith has his own agenda, but as much as I'd like Roid to be a loyal guardian, I keep wondering whether he doesn't have his own agenda, too. Someone help Heinz!

Yeah, that was kind of iffy (although at least his name appears to be Berger Stone, not particularly Middle-Eastern-ish). Especially since after everything that happened in this episode, Space Dubai totally has to have something significant to do with the plot.

Question for the gun experts here, since I'm a complete amateur on guns....

Normally when you take a frontal headshot like that (it was a headshot right?) normally the blood splatter would come from the back right? So why did so much of it splatter forward?

Is it because it's a laser?

My completely amateur guess is that 1) he (or his head) basically exploded because physics be damned this is cooler; 2) because that looks more final. Like, no way he survived that.

Wait, doesn't Bogue still hold a rivalry with Hayate still? I wonder which one will get settled first; assuming that Hayate will go after Keith in the future.

Man, I feel bad for Kaname now. She just really can't catch a break in this series.

Sure, but fair & square is irrelevant.

I would feel more sympathetic to the death of a Wind red shirt had this conflict been more of a gray variety. So far, its not looking that way.

The Wind has been losing a lot of sympathy points episode after episode. Now they have gone ahead and killed a character whom we just started to know & like. I can only imagine the uproar among the Pixiv community.

That being said, maybe chicken-hair's alleged death would allow Hayate to grow out of his silly non-killing policy.

Or maybe his plot armor saved him? We shall see.

Yeah, but Kaifun was not a villain. Though he did defend a horror-show of a love-interest, so in that regard Kaifun? You can keep it.

I am sure the coincidence is non-intentional, but still...

Maybe Messer's replacement will be a "kill them all* guy or even Roid if he decides to defect to Chaos because he had enough of his people's shit.

I have mixed feelings about Messer's death. I mean it does serve a purpose in the plot, but it's basically the same thing they did in Frontier, and if we go further back in SDF too, so it feels like they're just checking a box in the Macross template. I don't appreciate that. I would have preferred a more original direction.

On a different note, the scene when Mikumo and Freyja see this weird vision together and fall unconscious reminds me a lot of a very similar scene in AKB0048. At this point is rather obvious Kawamori is outright taking material from that show to use in Delta. Not that I mind. I love AKB0048.

Not a whole lot of uproar so far, but a lot of people haven't seen the episode yet and/or haven't reacted to it fannishly yet. (Macross Delta doesn't have a huge pixiv presence, by the way. For outrage I'd go to Twitter instead. )

Dammit Kawamori! The moment he gave Kaname his bracelet he signed his death sentence.
R.I.P. Messer

Now, I do not care if there is a third party involved manipulating the windermereans, I want the aerial knights down, specially Bogue and now Keith (I know it might not happen but I still want it).
My question now is what will Delta do without Messer? we saw how they did against the knights without him, and even if Hayate gets better I do not see him taking on Keith, maybe if they play Mirage‘s jenius card and do it together but I‘m not sure.

I wonder how the walkure and delta squadron are going to get out of this one.... Their best pilot has been downed... Two of the walkure (their strongest members one of whom can sync up with a certain pilot) are injured and a little out of it. They're out numbered and not to mention the Wind guys are all good pilots plus their white knight is still mobile....the situation does not look bright.

Welp, too bad about Messer. Poor Kaname. As usual, waiting for the subs to make a deeper commentary, there seems to be going on a lot in the episode.

Anti-aircraft level laser/beam weapon(it seems it is those guns on the wrist) hit body= enormous amount of heat= vaporization of large chuncks of the body = sudden huge overpressure = like a ballon popping

my 5 space cents

Thing is he was hit with a 20 - 55+ mm round, not a 9mm - 308 cal. Rounds like that are designed against armor and fire at very high velocities. The depiction of blood in cockpit is probably not accurate, because these ammunition are armor-piercing. It will certainly go through the human body, but it'd do so in such blazing speed that the victim wouldn't even know there is a big hole in the chest until it was too late. Blood would unlikely splatter forward, it'd be sucked to the rear. In order for that body to splatter like that, the round would actually have to lodge in your body and then explode.

Of course if he was hit by a beam weapon, then there wouldn't be blood, because they would have been burnt away and evaporated.
