Ranks are not determine by the strength of savoir but like how much of a threat they are to Metaphysical, for example, a S rank can defeat a Dreadnought class. For Andou case, I am not too sure about his power but I know that he is considered a natural enemy to metaphysical so they might be part of the reason why he is Rank SS.

Not sure whether, he lose or not. But I know that he did struggle in the fight against Charles, the french branch head but won in the end. He got imprison because he got accused by china and japan branch ( need to confirm this) (There are spy in various branch)

Man, Blueexorcist is giving out lots of spoilers. So let me join in.

To Clarify, the 2nd in charge of China and Japan branch conspire to lock Moroha up due to their own reasons, without the knowledge of their respective Six Heads. China did it cos he tot Moroha is secretly the one creating the Metaphysical, and Japan because she though Moroha is gaining more influence in Japan than Andoh the head.

Also, Moroha is not OP to other Six Heads. In his fight with Charles(who is a Black Mage) , even when Charles admitted that he do not have anything as impressive as a Step 13 World Break Forbidden, nor anything unique like an Origin, he is still the most powerful Black Mage alive! Moroha was forced to agree (lol)

So let me get this straight, the head of France fought moroha cause the moraha refuse to work for him? how crazy is the French guy, seriously believing that moraha would leave his homeland and all his friend to serve him in a different countries? Man some people are ego centric as hell in this LN. Moroha seriously need to cut some of their limb to show them that if they don't leave him alone, he is going to massacre their butt.

Gen fared worse here than in the anime. Burned to a crisp by Moroha. I can practically hear his voice from the anime when he started casting his spell. And with that he starts to gain more attention to himself.
