I'm guessing that, when they got the news her psycho brother was coming, that she was afraid he would start arresting, or killing, the people she'd assembled, thereby ruining any chance to avoid war with Japan, and therefore dooming the empire.

Even if the JSDF did not seize the Empire themselves, destroying the Empire's army would permit foreign powers to cut off pieces for themselves, local powerful nobles could set up their own petty kingdoms, and any previously subjects groups could rebel and seize territory.

But I'll have to wait for the translation to see if my guess is correct.

She had the image of the black monster before she heard the news that her brother is coming.

"Avenger" mode Itami is sooooooo cool.
I love his switch from goof to badass, we used to have so many adult heroes like this back in the day, Lupin, Saeba Ryo, etc.

No, that monster image part has nothing to do with her brother.

The amount of money Japan was demanding as war-reparations was insanely high for the medieval standards, it was practically a death sentence.
It's about equivalent of annual budget of a 1st world nation in our world, but the politicians in Japan really didn't have a clue on what that means to an undeveloped medieval population. We gotta keep in mind, the population of Earth in 21st century is exponentially high compared to that of our old civilizations.

In other words, there's no possible way for an ancient kingdom to produce a trillion dollars worth of gold.

well, they can make do with natural resources wich are in high demand in our world. Not to speak of possible applications of magic which could give us new ways in engineerring and energy collection

If that is the case, then I think its the natural resources that they were truly aiming for all along. They demand an impossible amount of gold, and then in the negotiations "settle" for XX years of the output of certain mines, plantations, etc., and throws a bone to the Empire's Senators to make them feel as if they were able to influence the settlement.

... now I wish someone should shoot the princess's brother's knees with a shotgun and as he reeled there in pain shoot his shoulders... but oh well, he'll probably have a fate more worse than most if time wills it.

also, I wait to see if they would be allowed to test the shotgun tho Lei Lei probably knows the shotgun is just... well... explosion magic crammed into a cylinder looking thing with metal balls.

It's easier and faster to ask for a tribut, setting up land exploitation is way costier and harder to manage.

not counting taking land may be considered by the other nations as a trigger to start war.As long as he shares the natural resources instead they will have no excuses to start a war.

Hmm. Speaking of land, does Japan consider itself to be overcrowded?

japan population declining because the people had the mindset of working and not thinking to get pregnant fast because it'll effect the carreer... and maybe because japan is the country with most less middle east religion that love making kids

It's not, but just like almost every country in the world(except country like Singapore I guess ), they suffer from overcrowdedness in the cities, and very low density in the rural area.

Just because Japans population is starting to go into a decline/is aging does NOT mean that it isn't a crowded country. We are talking about a nation the size of California with over three times as many people living in it.
