Earth Hour

Just out of curiosity, who actually did it.
For those who don't know: Earth hour is when people try to get people to turn off lights/tv/compu/other stuff.

I didn't do it, cuz i'm an evil goddless liberal who's going to hell.>: D plus I forgot and am to addicted to my compy and tv to have been able to survive it.

I had no idea this Earth hour thing existed until I watched a bit of Larry King Live tonight where they were talking with Edward Norton and Alanis Morissette about it.

Wait, if you were liberal, wouldn't that make you more likely to do it?

Haha so this is what it was. I was totally misinformed by my mom. She said there was gonna be a 1 hour brownout.

It's better to be saving energy all year round. At best, this 1-hour thing is an advertisement. At worst, it's a gimmick.

Earth Hour was at 8.30pm to 9.30pm over here, last night (March 28).

I turned off all lamps and electrical appliances at home, except for the fridge and a couple of altar lights, and went out for a walk under a starless sky.

Outside, the street lamps were still blazing, the cars and buses were still belching fumes and hundreds, if not thousands, of homes were still lit, TVs flashing, radios blaring.

Overall, nothing much changed. We're still headed towards waste and pollution. But, nonetheless, a gesture was made.

Saving the world starts with you.

In the case of Singapore, we could start with having a little (or alot, depending on your preference) less air-conditioning.

Have not used air-conditioning for at least five years, if not longer.

Well, not really by choice at first. The condensers broke down, and we decided not to repair them. We've shaved at least S$100 a month (US$66 a month) off our utility bills since then.

The monsoon winds between December to February, especially this year, are cool enough. For other months of the year, there is the simple electric fan.

I was out during the whole hour, but my brother told me he did exactly the same.

I wasn't aware of this until he told me, btw. >_<!

I drew for the last 30mins (with the lights on). I didn't get very far >.<

The real reaction shouldn't be to shut down our appliances, it should be to improve the method of producing and transporting energy. Instead of turning off my power, I searched google for ways to support clean energy. That's my style.

For most of you, burning candles for Earth Hour will emit more carbon than a single lamp with a compact-fluorescent bulb.

I am allergic to air-conditioning. Can't sit for long in there without feeling suffocated.

I switched off all the lights other than my computer and spent time playing FEAR in the dark. Reminds me of BMT field camp again where the only light are moonlight and flashlight.

I ignored it, it seemed like some kind of lame publicity stunt.

Honestly I've never heard of this Earth Hour o.o;
it was never ever mentioned in our country let alone anything coming close to a "switch off all your lights" action

I switched off the lights.

But seems like this event showed that most humans are ignorant or selfish.
