Essentially a cold war style carrier group in terms of squadron numbers, but geared entirely towards combat.

Don't worry about overpoweredness. I've seen Halo-ish carrier concepts with something like 60 mobile suits and 300 fighters. (Yes, it was an abomination of a Halo/SEED crossover. And the guy writing it was an ass. I pretty much did as much as possible to kill it before he inflicted it on us.)

No COFFIN Cockpit systems, because it ruins the image of space-bound warriors flying their fighters using control systems and joysticks is more awesome than dinky COFFIN systems.

Plus, as everyone knows, REAL MEN USE JOYSTICKS AND THROTTLES. Roy Fokker. Rick Hunter. Max Sterling. The list goes on and on. Even ZENGAR used control systems. (Until he got Daizengar, at any rate.)

Playing with control balls are for girls or... well, they aren't REAL MEN.

You've got 2 squadrons of interceptors, 4 Squadrons of multirole combat aircraft, and 3 squadrons of attack jets. In pre F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Days, a US Carrier would consist of no less than 8 squadrons of aircraft; 2 Tomcat interceptor squadrons, 2 F/A-18A/C Hornet multirole squadrons (occasionally an F/A-18D squadron from the USMC is fielded), one or two A-6 Intruder squadrons, a KA-6D Tanker squadron, S-3 Viking subhunter squadron, and an E-2 AEW Squadron. Total of nine squadrons of aircraft.

The Hand of Durandal's complement essentially fits the 9 squadrons, but is geared almost exclusively for combat. Hence, 2 interceptor squadrons, 4 multirole squadrons, and 3 squadrons of what are essentially supersonic A-10s with a bigger payload.

Yeah... that's why my model is Weak... Well all of my fighters are high on the bill... that's why only 6 Sqadrons per carrier in my end... unlike in the past, the carriers were much larger than my current ones- the early MFCs that i've planned were based on the SDF-1 model... too much to sustain...

I now prefer my carriers to be light and fast... almost based on the Ark Royal model but with a bit of diversity...

though the manual controls remain- a typical GDI fighter has the same controls the Strike Freedom Gun*** has (yes, it includes the keyboards in some models), the ball controls are for women, people with disabilities but with capable pilot skills, and men who want to do mental excercises- you need to sometimes excercise the brain to be even better...

Ironically, a Nimitz-class is faster than an Invincible-class. Ark Royal is essentially a carrier on the small scale; the British CVF will be much larger.

Thing is, while we may deride hot blood and such, real pilots actually DO train up their hot blood; Top Gun is full of hot blooded pilots.

Of course, once they get past Lt. Commander, the hot blood dies off a bit... from a blazing furnace to a cool fire. The idea is that they take that hot blood and then control and harness it to serve their bidding.

Also, I recall reading something where several simulated ideas were proposed; apparently at high-G manuvers, the joystick and throttle setup is actually better because at high G, it actually presses your hads onto the controls and you don't slip.

Also, different controls means different drivers and different cockpits and adds up to the maintennance nightmare. It may appear alright to the brass... but the maintennance pukes will be ready to kill or mutiny at how nothing is interchangeable.

Way back in Season 1 when Yuuno crash-landed on Earth, what made him crash-land? What happened to the rest of the crew, if any?

Last I heard, Raising Heart was one of Yuuno's excavation-site findings. It's probably an old-model Intelligent Device that is somehow just naturally attuned to Nanoha's latent abilities, which might explain why there was a need for chanting and how fast-to-adapt she was with RH, even though StrikerS I.Ds, even for those who aren't latent AAA, don't need any of the extra mumbo-jumbos.

Here's something out of left field... I'm right in the middle of doing some simple modding in BF2.

Who thinks it would be interesting if we were to band together and make a full scale total conversion into a Nanoha battle game.

For example, I know a modding crew who can pretty much make anything from scratch. Just imagine a starlight breaker here instead of an MLRS.

I know I'd play it.

PROFILE:

Time Space Administration Beaurau Experimental Systems Test Force (T.S.A. B.E.S.T. F.) Test Pilot, leading unit (Unit 01) Callsign known only as 'Crash'. As a Cadet, he recieved this callsign as the first ever cadet to 'successfully' crash and wreck a full sized TSA Dimensional Cruiser, while it was still powered down and in drydock, resulting in massive damage to the docking facility, and terminal catastrophic damage to the cruiser.
'Crash' had somehow, survived the incident, not only alive, but for the most part, completely unhurt. (Discounting cuts and such.)
Crash had become known throughout his cadet days, as a man with a motto. He could break ANYTHING. Records, rules, equipment, vehicles. 'He's a walking murphy's law' some had said. Some younger cadets even suggested he was cursed or immortal, as he seemed to get into more crazy and violent accidents than it should have been physically possible to do, and even more physically impossible that he pretty much walked away from nearly all of them.

He was assigned to TSA BEST F, the Test Force which helped develope experimental magical technologies and equipment, putting his 'talent' to good use by finding the flaws in new equipment, vehicles, and technology. And find those flaws he did. Crash's test piloting has seen him litterally walk away from 126 'fatal' accidents with nothing more than a shrug, while the entire command staff gawked each and every time, and the test force commander commented about having a heart attack, each and every time... Including 34 'fatal' accidents that occured while the TSA was modernizing the Belkan cartraige system for current, stable use. These included seven dimensional incidents, four of which had class SS+ level magical explosions that rocked TSAGCOM itself.
His piloting is... unique. Crash isn't much of a fighter, but his talent for finding weird ways to break things has developed into a skill in which he can make vehicles and equipment do things that seem to defy logic itself. Often, the term 'The Unsung Aces' has been attatched to him and the test force for their abilities in general. His extensive testing of magical weapons has gained him moderate skill in their use all across the board, especially with most of the ranged magical firearms available.
In the few times he's been deployed in emergencies, he's somehow managed to find the most collatteral inducing and destructive way to deal with a situation. (Much to upper TSAGCOM's displeasure come budget time...)

As of late, Crash has been promoted to be the lead pilot of the Test force, working on the COMBAT BATTERY project to produce a device that can provide all around heavy combat effectiveness to even mages of negligable power levels. After a particularly violent accident during the project, which involved strangely enough, a PVC pipe, duct tape, a paperclip, and chewing gum as the triggers, Crash was quoted as calling the project... 'An absolute BLAST!'.
Whether or not that was because he'd just been blown 200 meters by a magical explosion, or because he thought it was fun, has never been determined.

In the late phase field testing of the BATTERY system, he was redirected to an active intercept role during a major flight test of the new system, where he was promptly cut off from Test Force Command and TSAGCOM before being engaged by six of the Imfamous 'Numbers' Combat Cyborgs. It was believed they were after some of the experimental tech being used in the battery, and was using their artifact raid on the auction to the east as cover. Crash managed to prove the effectiveness of the Battery system and its flexibility by not only actively engaging them, but surviving against these well trained killers for the eight and a half minutes it took to scramble reinforcements to assist him.
Crash has been awarded permenant use of his model of the Battery system for his actions in that incident. And strangely enough, he hasn't broken it yet...

NOTES:
The Combat Battery is a self contained magic assisted power armor and weapon system. It includes all the trimmings of normal magical devices such as amplification and control, as well as boosting from the cartraige system. It also contains a number of non-magical systems such as the Grav Drive, a self sealed environment, physical high mass armor plating, and physical lifting capacity of two tons. It contains a magical and non-magical sensor suite and situational awareness system that matches a dimensional cruiser in all but range. The AI that operates the system is smart enough to work and understand as a decent partner with just about any master, gathering information needed, performing operations as required on its own, and essentially doing all the tasks required in the background of a combat situation, such as target profiling, threat assessment, and tracking.
Battery's voice is male, the engineers opting to have the more harsh, and critical tone to get the attention of its master as needed. Battery is programed to speak clearly in technical terms, often using informative commands such as 'PRIMED', 'AFFIRMATIVE', and 'NEGATIVE', allowing it to be understood and communicated with, even under situations where it may be difficult to hear or understand the device.

Configuration wise, the battery has a number of mission set modes enabling it to perform as well as an A rank Mage.

Internal Barrier Jacket: The primary, all purpose body glove barrier jacket is custom for the Battery, providing full body protection in a utilitarian manner that can be supported by modular add-ons of the main configurations. Unsurprisingly, it is not visually impressive compared to the more flamboyant jackets of the main TSA forces. However, it works.

ARMOR CONFIGURATIONS:

Heavy Ground Mode: The HG Mode consists of a strong overlayed combat exoskeleton over the barrier jacket. This armor is solid metal plating consisting of magic forged super density tungsten carbide and titanium alloys. It masses in at more than three times the weight of a large adult male human. However, it can withstand impact from up to S ranked attacks and still allow just about any pilot to walk away from the assault with only inconveniencing physical injuries. Granted, the armor is made for pilot survivability, not to withstand multiple heavy attacks, so armor functionality after S level hits is questionable.

Interceptor Mode: Power routing of the Battery is diverted from defenses to use of the inbuilt Grav-Drive system that allows the massive armor to gain flight mage ability. At a cost of defensive barrier power and magical weapons power, the armor can achieve straight flight performance surpassing the speed of aireal mages.

Air Superiority Mode: In the event of a manuever intensive air combat situation. The battery armor is designed to Jettison the heavy external armor and activate a lighter, more aerodynamic frame for the purpose of being able to direct more energy to airborne manuevering. Defenses are far weaker as a result, and the mode is suggested only for those who can keep up with the performance boost.

DEVICE WEAPON CONFIGURATIONS:

STANDBY: The weapon can be docked into the back of the armor and placed in standby mode when the pilot needs his/her hands free.

Rifle: The 'Device Mode' of the Battery weapon's system. Unsurprisingly, as a combat oriented device, it's highly utilitarian and rather spartan in non-combat features. The Rifle mode fires magical rounds with either single fire, or automatic/burst fire modes.

Lance Rifle: For the times when the mage just wants to reach out and touch someone, the Lance Rifle mode is an impressive peice of magical weapon's design. Ressembling a Barret M82A1 in design, the mode can fire a compact, high energy SS level projectile at three times the speed of sound at a range of twenty kilometers and hit a target the size of a sheet of paper dead center. This is achieved through the Battery's AI performing the critical targetting management operations such as calcularing horizon curviture, magnetic, optical, and magical interference, as well as digitally and magically stablizing the firing platform. A full power class SS shot requires four cartraiges, and significant charging time, but is capable of smashing just about any magical defense with enough leftover energy to overpenetrait right into other targets. The physical backblast from a single shot often sounds like an artillery cannon being fired and has a strong enough concussion to knock unprepared mages clear off their feet.

Cerberus DF Mode: The Dogfight Cannon configuration, known as Cerberus, employs pretty much a 'spray and pray' factor. In a situation where aireal magical dogfighting with high speed, snap manuever targets is a factor, leading and hitting with well aimed shots just isn't feasable. The rapid fire gatling setup in this mode sprays hundreds of low power, dumb magical shots a second, acting like brilliant tracers to attempt to hit targets in the fight. The overal logic is to overwhelm with numbers rather than overpower. The secondary fire mode, a high power homing shot known as the BloodHound Breaker, fires a fast moving magical missile object that will chase a selected target for up to five kilometers to inflict level A rank damage with a cartraige load.

Paladin Grand: When the mission calls for the Big Guns, the Paladin Grand artillery cannon is where it's at. Although it has almost no practical use in close range combat, it's few firing modes allow the pilot to engage in heavy fire support of any other mage group that requires it. The deadly accuracy of the Spectre Barrage allows light artillery level firepower to be repeatedly placed on target, rapidly firing a series of deadly high power explosive magic shells on the fly. It's final attack however, the deadly high energy Meteor Shower, fires a single round... the Ballistic magic round of the Meteor shower attack is a MIRV, the shot being calculated by the AI to be fired high into the sky, where it fractures at sub-orbital altitude to rain down on the target position with a devastating hail of magical explosions. The exact number and size of the fracturing can be controlled by the pilot or AI depending on what they want for area spread and damage per submunition. To fire a Meteor Shower however, requires a full five cartraiges, and is a difficult and time consuming attack to fire.


OTHER ABILITIES:

1 - The Battery device can duplicate a number of conventional magical attacks, ranging from the Divine Buster, to the Iron Howl, and does have an inventory of various attack propperties for magical bullets.

2 - M.A.C.H. STRAFE: The experimental emergency movement technique, known as the Magic Assisted Compression Hop, is being tested out with the Battery. This manuever uses sub-dimensional micro-compression to fold the space between two points for the pilot, and causes a rather sudden change in position. The rapid change in position often produces a sonic boom on entry into the strafe, and a loud crack of thunder at exit due to air moving out of the way of the pilot's body and or aerodynamics barrier. The manuever can be self sufficient from any mage pilot at a range of up to 500 meters before additional cartraige power loads are required. The nature of the move being a dimensional hop rather than a physical motion means that it also does not have any effects on momentum, or the conservation thereof. Meaning that it can be used to effectively change direction without bleeding speed in the conventional sense. Overall, the name 'MACH' Strafe, often misleads mages into thinking the pilot has performed a sudden, seemingly impossible high-supersonic short range manuever.

3 - HOWLER Flares: Special designed rapid fragmentation micro Iron Howls. Used to create a more or less confusing cloud of light and noise to dupe magical targetting and tracking. Since they're of significantly lower power than a full scale Iron Howl, they're much easier and quicker to deploy in an active high speed air battle.

4 - Variable Magnitude Cartraige Loader: Also in the list of Battery's inventory, it the new experimental VMC Loader, designed to be able to feed different SIZED magical cartraiges in expectation of an eventual shift into more mission specific power levels for cartraiges, ranging from conventional, to triple charge high power loads. The larger, reinforced jetison plate and active force ejection port ensure that spent cartraiges are moved clear of the device more more effectively.

CAUTIONS:

Battery Device is still in the Test Phase. Although functional, it still contains a variety of unproven techniques and unforseen problems. The use of the compact Grav. Drive simultaniously while activating a long range dimensional transport is among many of the untested features. Also, due to the high stress nature of the systems of the Battery, the operational time between maintanance operations on the device and armor is under careful review. It would be catastrophic to give the device to a non-flying mage of low power in the event the Grav. Drive has a total system failure in mid-operation. Until these systems are thoroughly tested for dependability and cleared for C rank or lower mages, the Battery Device will remain classified as a Special Operations and Test Division magical device only.

That should keep it all compact.
