So, are we arguing about folding now?
To make it easier for me, I just tend to think of folding as something similar to warp speed, hyperspace or what have you. Just another means of faster-than-light travel in another sci-fi/space fantasy setting. It's not that hard to grasp in a general sense. What could take years and years of normal space travel can be reduced to minutes, or even hours at the most. |

As for folding, I think part of it is just that the colony ships are all looking for habitable worlds, so they frequently make stops and rarely make Folds, probably because it takes a huge amount of energy and a lot of preparation to make a fold. They probably only rarely initiate a fold of the entire fleet, and instead pick a nice system to float around in for a time while other ships fold to chart nearby star systems, using the fleet as a base of operations. I doubt charting would simply be "Not habitable, move on", but more they'd do a thorough job since they were there and obviously the fleet was in no pressing danger. There could be valuable resources or Protoculture ruins in any area of the star system, and that's a lot of space to cover. I mean consider the size of Sol. Now imagine you're charting dozens of these star systems all roughly the same size. That's just gonna take time, and there are millions of star systems in the Milky Way galaxy for all the fleets to go around and visit, and it only gets thicker closer to the Galactic Core. Think like in Battlestar where they'd leave the fleet somewhere safe and send Raptors out to scout and find planets, or stick around in order to collect valuable resources needed for the fleet. Frontier is apparently ecologically self-sufficient, but they could still use fuel for their engines (I think that's just hydrogen) and various metals and other material for expansions, development, housing, luxury items, and, of course, the military. |

So I'd rather hear why Tak thinks I said that. |

I think Tak was referring to this:
Since the "art" was never specified, perhaps he understood you to mean "cunning" instead, in a shrewd businessman sort of way. A quick clarification with regards to the former should sort things right up. |

Ya rly.
Nah..."milking the franchise" is getting too close to "Kawamori is a troll" territory for me. The idea that they left the triangle open in the series purely for commercial purposes is one that I have rejected vocally since the episode aired. Ditto the movie ending. You can pretend I'm on your side on this, if you like, but you'll only be pretending. EDIT: Anyway, at the Frontier Fan Club event a few weeks ago, Frontier was declared officially OVER. So no milking will be done. |

I dunno, man...you're the one ascribing your own thoughts to my words. You tell me. And an official Alto/Sheryl (or Alto/Ranka, or Leon/Sheryl) ending would mess up the merchandise HOW exactly...? |

"Me, I just marvel at the way they seem to continually give AruSheri fans almost exactly what they want to hear, but never quite manage to push it all the way. There's a certain artfulness to it, I suppose." in reference to? Care to explain? Wouldn't hurt, other people want to know, too. Quote:

Is there some other definition of artfulness that I'm unaware of, which means "milking a franchise"? Quote:
I take that to mean you think they left the ending open in order to milk the franchise. Am I wrong about that? |

Uh-huh...so if they gave a closed ending, they couldn't make merchandise? Is that what you're saying? |
