It's out on Netflix as of Friday Nov 25. Watched the first 4 eps so far. I've no history with the writer or this story, but while I found the beginning of the 1st episode where the Johnny(the MC) was young a bit cringe, it was fun. I think the whole over-the-top fiasco of his power reveal pulled me in. Cause it was clear that it was just so much ridiculousness, that it was meant to be funny .
Once I got to the 3rd and 4th episodes, I was well beyond sold. Watching 'anime-ish' characters most of the time, its always nice to see a more grounded, mature protagonist that feels more realistic. Love Kasey a lot; sexy, beautiful, intelligent; Johnny definitely lucked out getting such a woman D0=. The whole thing with them escaping, with superheroes on their tails just felt like a fun ride =03(wish I could put it more eloquently). The skirmish with the Praetorian was something else; gave me an impression of "a villain's perspective of facing All Might", but with more hax. It was very interesting how Kasey used her power to influence one of the greatest, if THE greatest hero of that generation of heroes. Stopped at episode 4, but I'll be looking forward to who will be in the supervillain crooks crew and what they'll be doing. I just wish it was in a weekly format, so each episode could be dissected and savored one at a time, but oh well =0v....

No posts, but a very decent series. OOT and ridiculous in many ways, but some appealing characters, serious obstacles to overcome and a plot where actions, up to a point, have serious consequences. The blackmail was really rather nasty, but those guys really were villains, I suppose. Kasey telling Johnny 'not to project his fantasies onto her' was some very nice deconstruction.
Surprised that Mark Millar managed to write something decent for once; Kick-Ass and Kingsman were trashy and Jupiter's Legacy wasn't good. The 'Watchman' superheroes-in-the-real-world plot had been done to death, but low-level supervillains getting the same treatment was much more fresh, and it seems like he didn't make a muck of it. |
