Tasokare Hotel [Amazon Prime]

Mobile agme Tasokare Hotel is getting an anime adaptation

*Synopsis*

"TASOKARE HOTEL" is a hotel that is engulfed in twilight all day long, with no distinction between day and night. It exists as a place between life and death, where souls unable to decide whether to move on to the afterlife or return to the present world can rest their wings. The protagonist, Neko Tsukahara, wanders into "TASOKARE HOTEL" without remembering who she is or why she's there. Guided by the hotel staff, she is led to her room. "There should be items related to the customer's memories in the room. These might serve as clues to help the customer regain their memories." While searching for a way to return to the present world and remembering who she is, she encounters a certain incident...

Sounds a bit like Haibane Renmei, one of my favourite anime series of all time. Will give it three episodes.

My comprehension of the setting is that it is between Tasokare Oteme and Boku x Inu. A girl's ghost stumbles into a hotel for strange characters. The hotel design is from the old era. The chef is wearing old fashion waitress kimono. The girl is trying to solve the riddle, to determine if she is still alive. She helps one of the hotel guest to recover her memory and check out.

This reminded me of Death Parade more than anything else. However, the series isn't at all like you'd expect from the first episode if the second PV can be trusted. What I mean is that it won't be episodic, at least not for long.

I'm wary of mobile game adaptations in general but the first episode was intriguing enough. I'll see where it goes for now anyway.

It was released on mobile but isn't it a VN? Not that you shouldn't be wary of those either.

Kind of reminds me of old text/visual adventure games. A litttle bit of detective work, mystery and yuri, plus you have a MC that is like curious cat.
Btw, first episode with multi language subs is up free on REMOW Co.'s youtube channel ("It's Anime powered by REMOW")

First an anime this season that reminded me of House, now an anime that reminds me of Death Parade. I'm curious to see what's going to be next.

Yes, a mobile VN, which has many micro transactions thus very annoying.

From the look of things, the anime is going for a story of the week format with true ending plot thread loaded in the end?

To be honest by the time I'd managed to find this on Amazon Prime (searching for 'tasokare' or 'tasogare' didn't work) I found it so DULL that I started losing the will to live. Or at least the will to stay awake through it.

The only thing I came away from it with was the thought "Was this the thing that that recent episode of After School Hanako-kun was parodying?"

Getting out from the earth by himself(and bare hands) might be very hard, especially he is buried by bulldozer. Maybe he can lift what's only capable by the machine.

So, the hotel is the manifestation of the guest's mental state.

The name of the hotel is somewhat explained. Taskokare(dusk in Japanese) originally means who is that. One interpretation is that the face is hard to identify from afar, during dusk. It is also why Japanese translation of Ragnarök is twilight of gods 「神々の黄昏」.

I don't think they explained how the staff are getting paid. Is it suppose to be a mystery or is it not important?

It will probably come up later down the line, especially since we were told what they can't buy but not what they can.

Did I misunderstand or did they say that Neko's room won't get updated anymore now that she's part of the staff, meaning she's stuck here forever or until she quits?

Maybe that's kind of a "third way" option flux souls have when they show up.

'w' They almost revealed how they are getting paid, but Neko gets distracted again. After the first two easy going episodes, with the third episode, things start to get interesting.
Like this episode. Wonder if we get the start of a sherlockvs moriarty situation developing here.

Neko remembers she was wounded by a knife. The knife user doesn't give her trauma. Maybe she encounters another killer lurking in the town. Else, it is a small world afterall.

After saved by Neko, Ruri finally opens up to Neko. Ruri may not like how Neko stare at her. She may know Neko means no negative motivation.

I think it was obvious to all of us in the audience as soon as Neko saw the pictures of the victims that Osoto was a serial killer and was lying through his teeth, but Neko still did a good job unmasking him. He most definitely didn't come back because he didn't know where to go, he has something extremely nasty planned. Even if he doesn't kill anyone in the hotel, he's already bound to go to Hell with all the murders he committed in life, so might as well have more "fun" while he can.
