Well that solves the mystery...
I've been hearing about "Anime Sols" for some time now... and I'm definitely looking forward to its release. I can't wait to see the classics that'll be coming their way through it. *Prays for Hurricane Polymer and misc. Super Robot anime series to follow Anime Sols* |

We have more lined up but people only have a finite amount to pledge so we need to spread things out.

Hmm... doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
When it comes to kickstarter projects, it's not like they pre-sell to 10000 people, make it, deliver, and that's the end. The product/project is intended to be viable beyond the pre-sales. I don't really see that as even remotely possible in this particular application of the model. Is this just suppose to be an altruistic endeavor? Your project aside, the model itself is brilliant. The idiots who pre-buy on kickstarter assumes all the risk, while developers take all the reward. I wouldn't have thought there were that many stupid people out there, but go figure. |

What do things like 'Set 1' and '3 months left' mean?
Is Set 1 the first batch of DVDs and if so, does that mean, the asking value is just for that Set 1 or funding of the whole project? What is the purpose of a time limit? If there is no licensing involved, why even have it? Instigation?

animesols.com/faq The time limit is there really as an incentive. Also for practical reasons we can't keep the shows streaming forever since we don't have a subscription or much advertising revenue. In theory we could put them up with no time limits but to be frank if they don't get funded in 3 months they won't get funded ever...

1. Expose the west to classic anime it has never seen before. 2. Create fans of that anime. 3. Get the biggest fans to gather about 350 other fans to pre-order DVDs. 4. Profit!!! ....a very little bit. Someone suggested that we should name our site "Last Chance Anime", and it's not that far from the truth. This is basically the only way for most of these shows to ever see a legal physical release in the US.

Hey Sam, glad to see Anime Sols is up.
I have a question: Any case that some of those classics being streamed by Crunchyroll? I am going to see what I can pledge as far as Yatterman goes, but I'd love to be able to make a request or two regarding Tatsunoko's back catalog and I would love to be able have it on Crunchyroll so I can use my Android phone to stream(that's my preferred way of using a stream).

Once we finish translating the shows, however, CR can probably just use our translations which would make it easier to sell.

I also hope that Hikari no Densetsu might make its way to Anime Sols since it is one of the few sports anime from Tatsunoko, and I would definitely support any sports anime that would be on Anime Sols since that is a very underserved genre here in North America. And thanks for your prompt reply earlier.

I regularly see people write on Danish anime forums about series they remember watching on VHS in the 80's. Most commonly probably Candy Candy, Galaxy Express and Cyborg 009, maybe some more, typically seeking someone who might still have the original tapes around.
If we could get in touch with the original license holders in other regions like this, is there a chance you could expand the service to cover series like these?

Just signed up on the website the other day and made a few pledges. I hope everything goes well for these classic shows. I especially would love to see Black Jack and Ninja Senshi Tobikage released. They would be very welcomed additions to my anime collection.
