Rushed yes, nonsensical no.

In fact third ova explains many of the mysterious of the first two, but like you said it was rushed so it feels like it doesn't make any sense. I think if the ova had been twice as long with some more slice of life episodes with ryoko and aeka it would not have been as harshly criticized.

Wait, the studio is still alive?
I'm pleasantly surprised given the fact they didn't release anything since 3 years ago.

Welp. Seems like my concerns were not just me being paranoid.
Spoiler for key visual, side-stories, paranoid:

This is why we need more Isekai. That series was a breath of fresh air since it didn't have the burden of shouldering other stories in Kajishima's already convoluted universe.

I totally wouldn't mind more Isekai cause I did enjoy it (much like GXP actually) - just don't want it taking up most of the time of what I once considered the main series. No Ryoko, Ayeka or anyone of the original cast (sans Tenchi and Ryo-Ohki) in the promos so far... Sadpanda.jpg

Seriously - AIC? That does come as a surprise. They must have been in hibernation mode. They've actually been responsible for a number of terrific series over the years, but they're infamous in the industry as the worst offender as far as sweatshop conditions.

AIC was in really bad state lately because of horrible management. So they are like Gonzo now: lost a lot of staff but still alive. But I'm not surprised it's them.

I don't see why Ryo-ohki 4's plot would overly concern itself with setting up Isekai. The crossovers in Ryo-ohki 3 were to play with the shared universe thing they were doing where GXP and Ryo-ohki 3 were done relatively close together in development time. Both sort of promote one another.

But Isekai is done and years old. There's no reason for Ryo-ohki 4 to promote it unless they simply think the story of how Kenji wound up being spirited away is a good one all its own.

But Kenji's not in the promo visual, so this might take place when he's still a baby or young child.

Are the other two women familiar characters or new ones?

The last episode of GXP and first of Ryo-Ohki series 3 were released 1 year apart and there really was no reason for the "crossover" as you call it to last for about 4 episodes and yet it did... Did anyone really care for two full episodes setting up Mihoshi's brother's marriage from GXP? I'm pretty sure everyone wanted more of the original characters and more of Tokimi's storyline which ended up being the last POS, wordvomit episode. (edit: brainfarts)
I like how you're optimistic and I would certainly love to be wrong but I'll keep my cool.

Spoiler for isekai:

TBH the girl looks exactly like Rea so I'm thinking... more backstory for her? flashbacks maybe? Ugh...

Tenchi's going to end up NTRing his dad (and maybe even Yosho)

Not sure about the younger one, but the other one looks like Tenchi's aunt Minaho, Yosho's oldest daughter.

Ehh....I would say Ryo-Ohki 3 did push a lot of the main plot forward actually. Even GXP itself actually pushes the main plot forward.

What did Ryo-Ohki 3 add to the mix (that we didn't know from GXP already) other than introducing Tenchi's sister/mom confusion and girl Kagato in Noike? Maybe I missed something. I'm also excluding episode6 of Ryo-Ohki 3 in this question since that was the single episode which didn't deal with GXP stuff.

edit: removed personal opinions of contents

Z's story? Washu/Tsunami/Tokimi's goals? Introing background for GXP novels? (because even if you dislike GXP, it still is the continuation from Ryo Oh-Ki 3)

I won't deny Ryo-Oh-Ki 3 as a stand alone is quite dull but that doesn't mean it does not add anything to the overall story

As for GXP (which I actually liked as I said)... I watched everything animated from Tenchiverse in the release order so sadly I can't think of GXP as a continuation of Ryo-Ohki 3. It's exactly the opposite of what you said for me - Ryo-Ohki series 3 is merely a prequel to GXP rather than something that could stand alone with the other Ryo-Ohki series. Prequels don't seem to be an easy thing to execute nicely...

Z's story/Washu/Tsunami/Tokimi are virtually only in the last episode and it was a frustrating one, for me at least. What about the other 5? An all out flashback episode, 2 episodes (re)introducing the GXP cast with Tennyo, and then another 2 introducing Misao and his not-yet-wife (from GXP again).

I understand they wanted to introduce Noike properly for example but everything else that was taken from GXP really didn't need to take up all the screen time that it did (or at all). Maybe then episode 6 wouldn't have randomly started with Earth already destroyed by Z - I seriously thought I skipped an episode.

At this point though, it really is just me being a worrywart about OVA4 based on how OVA3 turned out (for me). I just want more adventures/life of THE gang, not Rea's. Preferrably decently paced with some selfcontained episodes like in the first two series. Sorry if I come across as a bitter fanboy but OVA3 (the second half especially) just didn't do it for me. It's really a mystery cause I did enjoy GXP and Isekai.

I still think it doesn't (except for the very poorly executed and overstuffed episode 6).

Everything should turn out fine as long as Rea isn't being used as a catalyst to promote another one of Kajishima's in-universe series.

Personally, I'm more curious as to if Tenchi will ever use that new PC his dad bought him. Why didn't they just ask Washu for one?
