Wow this episode is kickass.

First of all, I heard a lot about the Mai Ballroom scene being people's greatest expectation, and really, episode 12 delivers. I have to say that the entire art from beginning to end is grade-A. You will enjoy it.

Episode 12 had more scenes with the other girls than I realized. Surprisingly, this was not a problem. Ayu, Nayuki, and Shiori got some screentime and we learned a few important facts/mysteries about them as well. They were not delved into - rather, just tidbits revealed. I'm certain that the producers will go into them futher in future episodes as they roll by.

There are funny moments as well between Yuuichi and the girls. None of them in my opinion degraded with the general mood of the episode. It was serious when it was serious and humorous when it needed funny. Really, this episode stands out as perfect in my eyes in terms of story, art, and plot management (getting audiences to feel a proper mood as it delivered). This is the best Kanon episode yet.

Comparing Mai with Makoto, people who read my comments about the latter in previous episodes already know what I'm going to say. heh But the mystery character in anime usually tends to always be the most interesting to watch for me. They're unpredictable. Anybody can wish for so-and-so to do something or anything. But the result tends to be open-ended or unexpected. A lot of unexpectation happened between me and Mai, events occured that I didn't think would occur. Mai transitioned into something here. I don't know what it is. But how she handles it will continue to be of fascination for me. She's far from boring yet!

Episode 12 was just splendid, right down to 'Once Upon A Dream/The Sleeping Beauty Ballet' being played while Mai & Yuuichi take to the dance floor. Sayuri's moe points seriously sky rocket thanks to this episode.. and of course, same goes for Mai and her destruction of the dance. <3

Next episode preview.. looks like Sayuri is getting a lil' close to Yuuichi. :3

Oh wow that dance between Mai and Yuuichi was perfect. I can't believe how amazing it looked. Add Kitagawa's awesome outfit and you have a perfect episode. Well we know now that the demons Mai sees and fights are very real since they attacked the dance. We also have Ayu's angel doll and now know Shiori's last name. Very spoilerific episode and perfectly made. I'm loving this.

I'm very tempted to draw the third 10 in my entire time on Animesuki, just on the technical merit alone. Buuut I'll sleep over it and decide tomorrow.

What a wonderful, wonderful performance by KyoAni. Marvellous.

A lot of effort was placed into this episode. It's hard to imagine they managed to do an episode with as much movements as this with only 7 people on genga staff.

She's not facing him directly, but passing by his right side. And technically, she's only whispering to him about wanting to talk to him about Mai, so there's nothing, er, impure here. I'll admit her expression looked dangerous.

I also noticed like Cyz that Ayu gets another outfit!!! That surprised me, since I remember everyone saying how she needs a wardore XD

The ballroom scene was amazing I really liked loved it bunches ^-^ The action sequences were rendered so well.

So far, everyone who lives in the Minase household got to wear different clothings everyday, so it wasn't not all that surprising that Ayu got some new clothes too, I guess.

Well, there's a reason why she always wear that same outfit, so it's actually right for Kyoani to show her wearing the same stuff while everyone else got to change clothings.

Not just limited to episode 12, but looking back at Kanon 2k6 as a whole, a subtle story telling method one can see in Kyoani's version which really shows why Kyoani is on top of the game that some of us here have being preaching all along:

Spoiler:

This is the kind of interweaving which the experienced Kanon fans are talking about, this kind of attention to small details in storytelling is why we sing the praise for Kyoani, and this is what makes Kyoani's handling of Kanon so wonderful and leaps and bounds beyond the Toei version.
