The only part of this new generation of DBZ I really don't like is how the soundtrack as a rule panders to the emotionless electronics style of Bruce Falconer rather than the majestic orchestra of Kikuichi Shunsuke (and to a lesser extent, Yamamoto Kenji)

Wouldn't it be a dream come true if Dragonball S utilized an epic/tragic rock-opera soundtrack composed by Kajiura Yuki in the style of Sword Art Online?

Point In Fact, If Kajiura Yuki wrote the music for Dragonball Z.....

Sounds terrible, Nothing beat's DBZ's old Japanese soundtrack. https://youtu.be/XebyKpo6A9s?t=43s

Sorry, doesn't help my opinion when SAO is trash. No offence.

Kikuichi Sensei is in retirement age unfortunately, and unlike say the Eminent Hisaishi Joe, he no longer has the vibrancy to come out of said retirement anymore.

Astounding how there are folks who prefer the synthesizer of Bruce Falconer; when it is akin to what a synthesizer produces when played by a chimpanzee taking joy in JarJar Binks porn.

Poor Yamamoto Kenji; at least he TRIED to replicate the feel of the 1960's Shaw Brothers Kung Fu Films DBZ payed homage to (like Kikuichi did) with his "Kai" score.... F^<<ing suing happy bloodsucking Hollywood lawyers.

What did you expect them to do, just ignore how he was blatantly ripping off entire tracks of theirs? Note that Yamamoto had actually been plagiarizing stuff for years, (take for example that synth-track that played when Trunks killed Freeza? Basically just a medley of some German synth-album. They must have noticed this, as after some point the track completely disappeared from any Dragon Ball related music-releases, even in cases where you'd expect it to be there) the Kai-situation was more like just, the last straw for Shueisha and Toei and them.

...But yeah, as it stands now, we're probably stuck with Sumitomo. Which is like, I'll admit his Battle of Gods soundtrack had some good tracks on it and it seems the quality of Kai: The Final Chapters's soundtrack stems more from him having absolutely no budget to work with, but... I'm not really a fan of his. Even when I saw Battle of Gods for the first time, I was not particularly impressed with the soundtrack. Though as long as Toei has the decency to provide him a decent budget... and hires someone vaguely competent to handle the music-placement... Super's soundtrack could still be okay, I guess.

I have to admit, Sumimoto's "quiet/heartwarming/drama" pieces are actually better than his "Bruce-Falconer Action Scene" pieces.

In particular the "Friendship" theme between Goku and Beerus

And this version, which I'll admit I shed a tear to the first time I heard it:

And the thunderous tenor-chior of "Struggling Against A God" is easily the equal of Kikuichi Shunsuke.

Now if only the REST of his work can match this consistency of quality.

Those are indeed great tracks. I'm not sure if i don't like Sumitomo for the amount of what sounds like "filler" pieces, or if the problem is that music placement in the Buu arc has been mostly horrible.

Obviously Super will get much more attention than this part of Kai that Toei wouldn't even cover to begin, so even if we're stuck with him, there's hope.

I find that I prefer the American music over the Japanese because it has more presence, it stands out more. The old japanese music is good, but its very generic. Pop stylings, like in the Gohan transformation, are nice, but have been done numerous times before.

It was to be expected. The first time I heard the Androids' leitmotif bgm (Arata na Teki no Shutsugen) I knew he was going to get a lawsuit. It was blatantly ripped off from the intro sequence of Terminator Salvation. There's no way you can steal stuff from a major Hollywood movie and get away with it.

Remember that Dragon Ball Z started back in 1989 and the American score wasn't done until 1996 or so which is after the original broadcast ended in Japan. What sounded "generic" in 1996 may very well have sounded brilliant in 1991 or so.

I know I'm probably biased since I grew up with Dragon Ball (the show started airing in Portugal around 1993 with an hilariously bad dub that's legendary around these here parts) so I do have a very personal attachment to the show and its music.

It's exactly the other way around to me. The American music is absurdly lifeless, uninspired and generic.

Of course, people who grew up with either version will have nostalgic feelings for it. But for the rest of the world, the American dub/soundtrack don't hold much merit.

I kind of fear for Dragon Ball Super when you say it like that. Crystal was a boring visual mess and Digimon went from a tv series into a small string of movies. Dragon Ball Super needs better company than that...

Fox, that's not bad music. Does any one remember the old Funimation soundtrack? From the 90s I mean, English dub they were my favorite. The song they had for spirit bomb was nice

Wonder how it will fair against One Piece ratings?

It should be mentioned that there will be a manga release for Super written by series creator Akira Toriyama and illustrated by Toyotarō (RoF Manga).

It's set to begin in June (When VJump releases its summer edition) so we'll have a glimpse at the story before it airs on TV.

My wishlist---

--- 1) Goku to obtain a power/form that only & only belong to him ! A Power that other Sayan like Vageta or Broly can't have !

---2) Goku Beating the shit out of Broly in a fair fight ! I honestly prefered if Goku turn out to be the ''True Legendary Sayan'' .

---3) Future Goku and his power ! I always wanted know Future Goku's power from ''Goku Jr Timeline . He should be ''Super Sayan 10'' by there .

By the way , Did Goku from GT ever Died ? Or may be he has the power to freely cross the world between living & Dead .

On an unrelated note, I wonder how everyone would feel if this series were to allow all the Z senshi to discover how to tap into and utilize god ki.
The only Superman Goku has to worry about is Superman Prime One Million !
However , Superman obtain that power form adsorbing Solar Radiation for 18000 year .
Can you imagine how powerful Goku can become if he train for 18000 year ?

Also , Aren't Dragonball Z characters the Solar system Destroying Sneeze-tier ? Even a Low rank Soldier from Freeza's army can destroy a Planet .
Then there is Kid Buu who destroyed Planet after Planet just to find Goku & Vegeta

By the way , This is what is call ''Solar System Destroying Sneeze-tier--
