So Mirai died in the final attack on the Ceruleans. Or less dramatically, she was evacuated but lost her hat. Later, Raccoon finds the hat and keeps it. Sandstar creates a new human from DNA(?) on the hat. Said human (Kaban) takes hat and wanders off. Friends created from living animals retain memories of their animal existence. Kaban wasn't created from a living human which explains her "amnesia" - she had no personal memories in the first place.

Still not sure how much time has passed since Mirai died or left. There were three generations of idol penguins which doesn't sound like much but we don't know if they were constantly in business. The Lucky Beasts keep maintaining parts of the infrastructure - who knows for how long. Nobody seems to have firsthand information about humans anymore but then again there is the possibility that most original friends died in in the cerulean war.

This was a major info-dump episode. Lets of things are finally coming to light. Currently it looks like the SandStar is to blame for everything.

Since it looks as if Akai and Fennec are about to catch up I wonder if there will be a two episode finale or a flashback episode first?

I hope Kaban finding out that she is a park guide's reincarnation (loosely speaking and if that's even true) will give her the incentive not to leave Japari park.

But this was quite the episode. It does seem probable from the information that Kaban is a kind of reincarnation. Though I suppose calling her Marie's child might be on point. Either way it does explain why a person suddenly appeared in this park after clearly a long time has passed. And Serval also being reincarnated from that would explain things like that crying scene. Some sort of genetic memory remained. After all there is no way Serval from that video survived and somehow didn't age (while losing memories).

It all fits pretty well. Does make you wonder about the world situation. Though it sounds like this was just an island localized phenomenon.

Either way things are pressing on. I can understand Kaban wanting to press further ahead and find...people.

Also kind of wonder if that massive threat is still hanging around and might intervene with any attempts to leave the island.

I have been watching it all along but I very nearly dropped it after the first two episodes. It really did not hit the ground running.

Each season, I always try to look into everything new. I have a life so I drop shows quickly. But I almost never pick anime up again after I dropped them.

I found the first episode charming enough to keep watching and from after the second episode on I was actually looking forward to the next. Even though I've been constantly underestimating the importance of the plot in this show.

Instead of speculating on the fate of our Friends afer ep 11 I'm just going to confuse everybody by dwelling on a detail. I don't understand the owls anymore. Apparently the matchbox thing they gave Kaban was really a matchbox. But if they had the means to make fire and knew it, even if they were too afraid to make it by themselves why didn't they give it to Kaban as she was cooking?

They didn't show it this episode, but judging from what Kaban-chan did this episode, if you pay attention to the OP where they scroll up to show all the friends (the part where they go la-la-la-la, check the OP from episode 10), what are they holding?
