Messer really is dead and not coming back. Going to miss him for sure especially after hearing that song from the Walkures at the end. Oh and a grand attack from the Winderemeres. Now I'm hyped for next week.
Everyone's sad that Messer died especially Kaname. Guess she did love him. She is not the only one as Chuck's sister is crying. The team performs a Ragnan ritual speeding Messer to the afterlife.
The kids sing Remember 16 which is a melancholy song since Macross 7 with a lost teammate. It was Physica back then.
Keith targeted Messer's heart precisely leaving the craft intact. Keith had to restrain himself from shanking Bogue for disrespecting his rival. Keith hates the Protoculture for giving Windermereans short lives.
As of last episode Ernest Johnson realized what Windermere is planning. All the planets with ruins are around Windermere at the center. Taking control of all of them Windermere can control the cluster's inhabitant. To facilitate that they need to invade Al Shahal and Ragna. Gramia launches their trump card. A Protoculture warship fully rebuild by Berger's Epsilon foundation.
Gramia's desperate as the clash between songs has affected Heinz's ability. Mikumo and Freyja is also affected leading them to be benched. This leaves only Kaname, Makina and Reina.
Walkure has intense physical training that would've made Col. Burton proud. Though he may in prison, in a retirement home or dead by now.
Theory: With the purpose of the ruins and warship on Windermere it seems the Windermereans are likely a slave warrior species the Protoculture created like Zentradi. Lifespan being a fail safe. Likely canned before they can be deployed.
nice and heartwarming episode. its been a while since I last watched a raw episode. I just can't wait for the sub to confirm if he lives or not. I have still fleeting hope that he survive like the previews macross series because from track record. The capt/leader/teacher always dies and leaves his student to shine/lead the team.
some parts are understandable but some aren't like the scene with the medical check up? and that windsomething ship? it reminds me of final fantasy or rpg game ship. Doesn't gave off a sci-fi advance ship when I first saw it.
sigh.... nice episode indeed. now off to playing games again and not sleeping until re:zero shows up.
It was announced that the subs will be delayed a day.
Spoiler for Ep. 11:
Reddy provided the one part that really needed dialogue to be clear, which was the star map. (Well, I'd also like to know what Berger said, but since Gramia sends the fleet off to war right afterward, there's not a lot of extra guessing.)
But it's definitely a good episode for me if I can get the depth of feeling from just the voice acting and what I see on the screen.
Have they actually named Chuck's sister yet? I suppose I should check the credits. But I felt bad for her, she never got to say anything important to Messer.
Well, this was a breather episode for the animators as well. Lots of funky looking faces (poor poor Keith), distances growing and shrinking...
But awww, Remember 16! It's one of my favorite Macross songs! That was a nice surprise/homage (although it just made me remember that episode in 7... sniffle). I wonder if someone will sing My Soul For You, too... (come on, people~)

And whoa, so it was a Protoculture ship. A huge ship. (And ugly, if you ask me.) So huge, even the computer gave up:

Something *cough*next episode title*cough* tells me the king is probably not going to survive this battle. Poor little Heinz. Also, Roid's "soon time won't matter" after his exposition conversation with Keith wasn't very optimistic...
(I really wonder about Roid... he even got a one-winged angel shot in this episode. You can never trust white haired pretty boys, especially if they're wearing glasses! But on the other hand he seems genuinely devoted to Heinz.)

He just says that the Protoculture ship they've been working on since the previous episode (and which, as it turns out, Roid had excavated) has reached 60% of its original efficiency, and is able to fly.

Well I'm not sure. They are aligned at the center of the cluster and has mind-control abilities through their voice (notice how only Heinz, Freyja and mysterious Mikumo are called by the ruins), so probably they were supposed to lead the other species made there (against Protodeviln and Supervision Army maybe?). Them as soldiers while Windermerians as commanders, IMO. That's probably why Roid looked pleased, because he found out something that validated his thesis. Var apparently doesn't affect them, while it does to everyone else. Remember they had the tradition of magical singers, Wind Singer, way before humans came, so this whole power of song was ingrained in their culture.

FWIW I think Roid was pleased because he found proof that the proximity of Protoculture ruins amplifies the power of singing. (That's why he didn't want the Knights to kill the Walküre, he wanted to see what happens when they start singing.)

Remember, that gate thing Heinz usually sings into is, apparently, part of the Protoculture ship that Roid had found, excavated and renovated (via Epsilon). They now set out on that huge-ass ship, bringing Heinz physically closer to the ruins on Space Dubai, while sitting on a Protoculture ruin.

Personally I'm understanding this as "Soon time won't matter." (Mostly because Keith keeps going on about "omg we have no tiiiime, Roid you're too slooooow") But I'm sure we'll find out sooner or later (hah).
Last week the episode ended with Delta in a really dire situation, Messer is killed, they are 4 against 6, Walkure can't help right now and Al-Shahal is having many var outbreaks, and this episode starts with... Messer's funeral?
Come on! I'm really starting to dislike how they handle the battles, what happened? did Delta flee? how? it doesn't seem to be the case since the King is personally going to attack Al-shahal, so the Knights were the ones to retreat? why when they had the upper hand?
~Sigh~ Aside from that I liked the episode, although it was information heavy so subs are really needed, and by the way the subtitles will be delayed for this one because gg's translator went on a trip again.
Seems like next episode we'll get a space battle with fleets and all that, can't wait.

They had the upper hand against Delta only, not against Al Sharal free from the VAR song. Also, all their little drakens were destroyed and 3 of their fighters were damaged.
Come on! I'm really starting to dislike how they handle the battles, what happened? did Delta flee? how? it doesn't seem to be the case since the King is personally going to attack Al-shahal, so the Knights were the ones to retreat? why when they had the upper hand?
They withdrew because 1) Heinz & the Walküre resonated and whatever it was that knocked out Freyja & Mikumo, it knocked out Heinz as well, 2) Keith pretty much knocked out his own mech in his fight with Messer, and others were damaged. Without Heinz and the damages to their own mechs they pretty much lost any upper hand they had.

So we can presume their ruins were likely destroyed during that nuke if they needed the ones in Space Dubai?
Yeah, I wonder the implication of that. So ominous, Roid! Keith's POV was fairly understandable this episode.

Either they got reinforcements off screen or probably Keith let them go in honor to Messer and because of their own damage (plus Heinz).
