Sasami: Mahou Shoujo Club

Resurrecting the thread since there's actually a short video up on the website now (click the "Movie" link on the left):
http://www.vap.co.jp/sasami-club/index.html

I loved Pretty Sammy/Magical Project S so it's good to see they're actually making another series with Sasami as a mahou shoujo, although it doesn't sound like it's in any way related to what came before. As near as I can tell from Babelfish's translation of the webpage, this time Sasami is one of five girls in her school (yes, including Misao) who presumably fight evil and belong to the Cooking Club, which is really a front for the Mahou Shoujo Club. Mihoshi's in it again as Sasami's teacher (how Mihoshi could ever get a teacher's certificate is beyond me) and Washu's back as the faculty adviser for the club. The only part that disappoints me is no Kiyone

The first time I saw the character designs they were a little jarring, but after watching the video they've grown on me. No air date for it yet, although it looks like there's a manga out? Before the forum crashed I think someone mentioned this was a shonen manga, so maybe this will be a "mahou shoujo for guys" series like Nanoha or Magical Canan. I hope they keep the sense of humor that the writers of Pretty Sammy had though.

Looks like they updated the promo movie to say it's airing on Wowow starting in April and added vocals for the song playing in the background. The animation quality looks pretty good, hopefully it's that good when it actually airs.

It's giving me an error so I'll try later. And for the record yes I have the latest version of realplayer. It just means the video is over-access for my area

I seriously don't know what to think of this show. I always liked Sasami and I liked her last TV series but... I guess it's all the way it looks. I have a hard time recognizing her as Sasami. I'll have to wait and watch the localized version when it comes out (as we all know it will be liscensed because it's Tenchi-related) unless they have somebody different voicing the japanese Sasami. Her japanese voice got on my nerves.

I'm keeping a "I'll watch it but have no expectations" view for now. And as a magical girl she's got some massively difficult shoes to fill for me now.

My arms are open for another Sasami series, but I thought this was a bit over the top when I first saw the homepage. Just....too cutesy...I can't see how this is targeted at guys...

Anybody else watched it yet? I was surprised, it actually seems pretty good so far, despite being a different concept from Pretty Sammy/Magical Project S and with a new vocal cast (including real kid actresses as the girls...which usually sucks). It's more a majokko-type show than a mahou shoujo-type one so far. Good production quality, too.

Looking forward to seeing what the other characters' powers are like in action...Misao's is rather uniquely creepy yet cute.

Two days and no replies... No posts of any kind, even... Didn't this series premier last Thursday? Seeing as it's a Tenchi spinoff, I expected it to be more popular than this. I hope someone's working on fansubbing this series...

There is one group I know of that's working on it. (Not mine, so I don't want to be more specific).

There is? Awesome! So long as someone's working on it, it's just a matter of time before it comes out.

It's kinda geting anoying...you'd think a tenchi series, much less a Sammy one, would have tones of people doing it.

Why would you think that?

I like this show, but I can understand why no one's doing it. It's simply too childish. There's a small section of the community that does that type of show, and this one, other than the fact that it has tenchi characters in it, doesn't really seem to have any "hook" other than it's abundant cuteness.

It's a shame, it looks like a good show. I promise I'll sub it after I finish Sugar Sugar Rune .

True, true. Also, Tenchi properties have a large chance of being liscensed. So groups who follow the rules may not want to get halfway done the show and then have to stop.
