One Piece - Chapter 882 [manga]
Welcome to the weekly manga discussion thread for One Piece.
Thread GuidelineBriefs
Break's over! Credit goes to AP's Redon for the info: -Chapter title is "Outside of a Yonkou's expectations". The splash ministory focuses on Ideo, who notices a disturbance out at sea.... -In the mirror world, Katakuri takes out his trident. As for Luffy, he tries to take out Brulee, but he's once again stopped by the mochi-man. The name of the commander's trident is Mogura (as in mole). While the two continue fighting, Brulee reports to Perospero that she overheard the earlier conversation between Luffy and Nami, and gives him the time and meeting place! Now Big Mom is heading towards Cacao Island by sailing in the "caramel wave"....!!! -As the battle in the mirror world continues, Katakuri reveals that he awakened his mochi ability! He also predicts Luffy's intention to use Gear 4, which he thinks sounds interesting. Meanwhile, Pekoms gets the news of Pedro's sacrifice, and cries in grief. It seems even Tamago gets slightly emotional over the demise of his rival. However, he also realizes that the BM pirates are taking the Straw-Hats far too lightly, and tells the minister Mont d'Or to garner their strongest forces at Cacao Island! Speaking of Mont d'Or, he is also informed that their forces lost track of Capone's ship.... and we see the mobster pirate in question planning to pick up Chiffon at Cacao Island, as well. On the other hand, the minister gets a report through den den mushi that Germa 66 was destroyed by a 10,000 strong army! However, unbeknownst to the minister, the one talking to him is actually Vinsmoke Niji! The situation is actually the reverse of what was reported: The Germa army was the one who took out Big Mom's forces! He tricks Mont d'Or into telling him the Straw-Hats' location so the Germa army can go to back them up....!!!! Last edited by marvelB; 2017-10-20 at 05:32. |

Translated chapter's out!
So, looks like we got confirmation that Katakuri awakened his ability, after all.... is this a sign that Luffy will awaken soon, as well? Also, despite Capone splitting from the Straw-Hats earlier, it looks like he'll end up backing them up at Cacao Island in the end, anyway. As for Germa, it looks like Judge is absent in that spread.... guess he's still recovering from BM's earlier attack. So it really looks like the final showdown will take place at Cacao Island, after all.... |

Nice chapter.
It was mentioned several times, that the Ships of the Straw Hats, as well as Capone's Ship were missing from their surveilance network. I wonder if we have an additional ally around, who wasn't mentioned yet, or what other reasons there may be for this. |

Or at least Niji sure does. ^_^
I was reading the chapter this morning. When I got to the part where they were actually bs-ing Mont D'Or, I was thinking "is that seriously Niji doing- Yes, it IS Niji doing that!!!" This chapter made me love Niji even more than I did at first! Interestingly enough, it seems Luffy is the first person to start giving Katakuri trouble with his dodging. And I don't think ensnaring him with Mochi was a good idea. Katakuri, say hello to Tankman. |

I still think Dogtooth will be training Luffy how to Awaken his DF after all is said and done here. Now that we have confirmation that his DF is indeed Awakened, we just need BM to eat Sanji's cooking and settle down. I get that they won't be best friends after all this, but BM is going to want some kind of deal to keep eating Sanji's cooking after she tastes it.

Yeah, I agree that the Sun Pirates are most likely the ones tampering with BM's surveillance network. One of BM's offspring (Praline) is among them after all, so she might be more familiar with the ins and outs of that particular branch of BM's security....
BTW, I'm kinda curious about Zeus and Prometheus.... BM left them behind to chase after the Straw-Hats, so what will become of the cloud and sun, now? Nami managed to ensnare Zeus under her influence for a brief period, but can she manage to do it again, and maybe even snag Prometheus along for the ride....? |

I don't think so. Remember Awakened Zoans? That was the first form of DF awakening we've seen and it basically triggered a transformation unique from the usual beast-man form (Chopper's Monster Point, the awakened guards from Impel Down). I dunno how Luffy's awakening would work, but there's a good chance it's different from how Dofla and Katakuri use it.... |

Yep, Luffy is definitely going to awaken his devil fruit in this fight. And I'm very curious to find out how he'll use his new abilities, whatever they end up being.
I can't imagine how an awakened Logia would work. They're already pretty OP as it is (though this was lessened quite a bit with the introduction of haki).

I think Akainu already demonstrate awakening Logia by cutting through the underground during Marineford War to stop Luffy and Jinbe from escaping Marineford.
Punk Hazard already shows both Akainu and Aokiji's awakening though through two islands that are separated. One side is permanent winter and one side is permanent volcano eruption. |

Giving it some further consideration, while the idea of Luffy's awakening basically being some sort of living pinball machine sounds like oodles of fun, I actually have something a bit different in mind. I was sort of thinking that maybe an awakening for Luffy may be based more on.... vibration, perhaps? Like, remember how Gear 2 works? Well, what if Luffy could pump his body so quickly and powerfully that he can add a sort of "pulse" effect to his attacks? Boy, I can only imagine the devastation he can cause to his foes if he combines that with haki.... to use an in-universe comparison, it would basically be akin to WB/BB's quake power or the Impact/Reject Dials (more likely closer to Reject, though). To use an outside comparison, I'm thinking something like Jojo's Hamon or the Spin. Basically, a style that focuses more on attacking opponents internally rather than externally....
