Fate/Zero is still one of my Top 5 anime's for this year and the wait for the second half is going to be a killer.
Its not because you dislike it that you don't understand it. Futhermore, dialogues is good. Too much dialogues is bad. F/Z has too much dialogues.

Yes some can't, some can. However, don't forget that it's an anime not a vn. Is it really a good thing for an anime to have that much dialogues ?

Having a lot of dialogue allows the creators to have character development and expand the story, which is IMO what a lot of shows out now lack. Character development is important and in order for that to occur you need dialogue. There's really no other way to do it.

If that dialogues help to the emotional rollercoaster than comes next then yes.

And dialogues here are not that bad as you're trying to make it. Nowhere near Noir or .hack//SIGN levels. Hell, they even managed to get some action in almost all episodes.

Aargh! Big fight with Cthulhu about to kick off, and it's "Come back in April!" Aargh!

I love the dialogue, the way it gives rise to character, motivation, and a bit of humour (the 'this book says you were short' bit was excellent).
That makes the show more interesting to me than if it was all action, all the time...

I find it funny how people keep complaining about the dialog so much, I think it was pretty obvious that this wasn't going to be a mindless action packed anime since like episode 1...., if I had a complain it would be that they could have had more dialog in it to develop the series main character Kiritsugu a lot more... since he so far doesn't even seem like the protagonist of this series!
And even though the second half of this series will have a lot more action than this one, there will still be a lot of dialog in it as well.
Though I did disliked the ending of it, just cause I have to wait 3 months for the second half, I fell that they have done a really good job so far with keeping true with the light novel(except for the Rin episode which I hated...as I dislike Rin very much lol).

From the episodes: 9 ended at -105:54:37
12 was at -90:56:27

Novel wise though Rider and Waver going through Caster's lovely tentacle minions to the lair was at -106:08:19

Caster and Ryunosuke returned at -96:16:02

Didn't even notice that some scenes were switched around.

thanks FlavoryFantasy
so there's a 10 hour gap between the destruction and discovery...

also just less than 4 days left, and 6 pairs to leave the game.

Guess Rider got his toys

though there are multiple of them, so maybe he asked his army to pilot them? there got to be some rider/saber class in there as well.

man, that would be basically unstoppable.

Ryuunosuke's speech at the beginning of the episode was so hilarious. "Are they even human!? BAAAAWWW!"
I'm going to miss the pair of nutjobs that are Caster and Ryuunosuke. I hope their demise will be a spectacular one (summoning Ctulhu already is KUUUURUUUU as hell). I was under the impression Caster would be fodder, how wrong I was... it will apparently take at least three heroic spirit to take him down. The preview even has Tokiomi asking Gil to use Ea, though it's unclear who his target is. He might be trying to take down everybody at once in the turmoil.

The wait for the next episode is going to be painful. So painful in fact that I think I'm going to go read the novels (I intend to read them no matter what anyway.. might as well do it before I'm spoiled). They stopped at the worst possible moment, which is to say, the best moment for them. No better way to ensure people will come back for second cour than to end the first one with a major cliffhanger.

Yes character development is indeed important. But, it's an anime and you don't need that much dialogues to develop a charcater because you can use the animation to help.

It's not the dialogues quality the problem but their quantity which lead to a pace problem.

Btw, just to be clear, I'm a big fan of the nasuverse as well (Tsukihime, FSN, Knk...)

I don't mind the dialog and some of it is excellent (the conversation between the kings being the highlight of the series).

As for this episode I'm not really into Caster & his Master so their scenes didn't do much for me but I did enjoy the scenes with Rider & Waver. Rider is by far the coolest & most fun character in the series, but it's Waver's character development & growth that has me most excited.

I am honestly glad the cliffhanger wasn't worst. I can wait for the fight. I don't know going in I expected the season to end on a negative note but thankfully it didn't. I do hope Caster is taken care of at the start of the next cour once & for all.

I was pretty shocked at that cliffanger there. Aparrently even more that I'll have to wait months till the second season. But oh well, at least until GC and F/z air again I'll have more time to catch up with Kara no Kyoukai now.

While I never really did like Caster or Ryounusuke I kinda liked their conversation after seeing their hideout demolished. Not that I agreed with their opinions, but I felt it was another good way of fleshing out their sync. Still hope they be the next ones taken out though.

I liked this episode better than episode 11, actually. The direction did a world of good for the Team Caster scenes, as I thought they had more impact here than in written form. In particular, the clouds-parting effect combined with the way Uryuu delivered his dialogue was priceless. They also did a better job of showing people's faces when they're talking. I feel like in a previous episode, we would have seen Waver and Rider's backs while they were speaking.

Kiritsugu is not the protagonist, though, he's one of the main characters with Saber, Kirei, Iris, etc. :P

It looks like everyone in the show is a main character.

I'm not sure who is a bigger bro this episode: Rider towards Waver or Ryuunosuke towards Caster

This episode is pretty much about the contrasting bromance of Team Rider and Team Caster.

A pair of nerds and a pair of psychopaths against the world each in their own way.

While I defended (and largely agreed with) Demi Soda last week, and I still definitely see where he's coming from, I have to say that I was pretty happy with this episode.

In my view, this is what the end of the first half of a split cour should be: A great cliffhanger moment to build up (and maintain) anticipation for the first episode of the 2nd cour that'll be coming a few months later.

Sometimes, the best way to do a great cliffhanger moment is to show the next big fight just about to start and then go "To Be Continued...".

In fact, one of the absolute finest cliffhangers of all-time operated on this basis. I give you...

Here, the cliffhanger begins when Commander Riker says "Mr. Worf... fire." Then I had three months to simply dream of what the big showdown will be like, and I have much the same opportunity here with Fate/Zero

Ultimately, though, I think what really helped this episode overall for me was the seiyu work. The seiyu for the Caster duo truly put their all into almost every line, and that added an awful lot of "Oomph!" to their scenes for me. It gives them a certain villainous charisma, accentuated by their deeply twisted yet theatrical philosophies.

Rider, likewise, continues to be loads of fun and the ultimate bro. When it comes to Waver, I'm a bit more divided. I do appreciate what Gen/ufotable are trying to do with him, and I have to admit that his little tsundere routine with Rider is pretty funny, at least conceptually. But man, there's moments when I want to punch Waver for being such a whiny little punk towards the ultimate bro Rider. So with Waver, I go back and forth between finding him amusing, and wanting to simply slap him.

The last character that had this sort of love/hate effect for me, though, was Mawaru Penguin Drum's Ringo Oginome, and I eventually ended up thoroughly liking her, so hopefully this ends up being a good sign for Waver as well. I will say I liked how Waver talked a bit of strategy during the big meet-and-greet-and-plan for battle between the protagonist Servants/Allies. Nice to see him doing something in that chariot other than cowering in fear while crouching next to Rider.

All-told, I felt this was a pretty good way to end off the first cour, honestly.

8/10 for Episode 13.
