Sighs is where Haruhi took it a bit too far... but even that is exaggerated on this board, imo. Also, she usually doesn't take it that far.

But I'd rather a friend or girlfriend with zeal and zest and with a personality a bit on the edge than someone with a more common personality.

I'm with Otaku Emperor here.

If Haruhi had a normal personality, she'd just be another cute anime girl. Haruhi's personality is at least half the appeal.


Now, in fairness to Jonbob, though, this isn't how our good friend Taniguchi thinks. So, yeah, if Haruhi's personality was normal, Taniguchi probably would have rated her higher.

It's also worth noting that Taniguchi is almost certainly the infamous five minute man (the guy Haruhi dumped five minutes into dating with him ). The fact that Taniguchi, of all people, is willing to rate her highly says a lot.

Actually, Sighs is the accumulation of six months of getting her way. Think about the timeline and you'll understand. For that half of the year, Kyon barely rose any objection to Haruhi's actions, and Haruhi was running rampant with her whims. Sighs was the breaking point, allowing Haruhi to be at her worst and suffer for it, begining to settle down. In all the stories AFTER Sighs this is evident.

Fans exagurrate yes, but also don't downplay the sheer wildness of Haruhi during the first six months of the SOS Brigade.

After the first six months, I believe she has calmed down. I don't recall they're being that many more molesting scenes (I personally hate those) and It seems that Haruhi is beginning to treat everyone a bit better. But the first six months or so was all the anime really did, which I believe was Haruhi at her worst (including Sighs, where I hated her but didn't start hating the character all-together)

Anyway, I just like how she acts, because it's fun to watch ^ _ ^

Thanks for sticking up for me. It's obvious that others on this thread completely missed the point of my post. Anyone that's been paying attention to my previous post would know that I personally wouldn't change a think about Haruhi. I was only speculating what Taniguchi rating for her would've been if she were...well...less like Haruhi (my guess is that she would've easily rivaled Ryoko).
