The class is summoned to become heroes and save a country from destruction, students of these class are blessed with cheat specs and cool job class, but that's not the case with Hajime, his job class is a "Synergist" and his stats are very normal (mediocre). "Synergist", to put it in another word is just artisan class. Being the weakest, he then falls to the depth of the abyss when he and his classmates are exploring a dungeon. What did he find in the depth of the abyss and can he survive?

The prologue of the story starts on monday, the first day of the week where activities brimming with energy begin, however, that's not the case with Nagumo Hajime, to him, school is just a depressing and troublesome place. Sleepy from pulling all-nighter, he totteringly enter the class. When he enter the class, the majority of the male students in the class click their tongues while glaring at him. The female students are different, but they are not friendly as well, they're apathetic and indifferent towards him. A male student, Hiyama Daisuke, making fun of him (calling him disgusting otaku) and his group (Saitou Yoshiki, Kondou Reiichi, Nakano Shinji) are guffawing with him. Hajime really is an otaku, but he is not disgusting. He cut his hair short so there are no bed-hair, although he is quiet, that doesn't mean his communication skill is bad. He's just a normal person who like manga anime and stuff like that. Those 4 students frequently bully him, reason is?

The girl who greets him. In this school, she is one of very few person that is friendly with Hajime. Her name is Shirasaki Kaori. Kaori, is one of two most popular angels at school. Her glossy black straight hair that reach her waist, her rather big eyes that is filled with kindness, cute small nose and cherry lips that arranged perfectly, complete with her big heart and strong sense of responsibility, making her a figure of kindness and diligent. Why does a popular girl such as her cares for Hajime? It's because Hajime is always pulling an all-nighter and one of those unsteady student who does not care with his result, which naturally attract Kaori who likes to takes care of other people. Hajime greets her back and he can feel killing intent directed toward him from all direction. That's right, Hajime is hated because he is close to Kaori. Looking at Kaori smiling face, Hajime could only wonder why Kaori minds him so much? well, He is not a wishful person who thinks that Kaori might have some feelings to him, since he knows that it's because Kaori has a strong sense of responsibility. But that's actually troubling him, Hajime wish Kaori would just realize the killing intent around and leave him alone. When he was going to terminate the communication, 3 students joined the conversation.

"Nagumo-kun. Morning. It must be hard for you everyday."
"Kaori, you still caring for another students? Good grief, you really are so kind"

These three students are also one of those very few students who is friendly toward Hajime. Their names are: Yaegashi Shizuku, Kaori best friend. Her trademark is black ponytail hair. Her eyes are sharp and while kindness could be seen, it also gives her a cool impression. With 172 cm of height, her dignified appearance reminded us to Samurai. Her house is actually a dojo of Yaegashii sword style, and Shizuku herself is a stalwart that haven't yet tasted defeat in any kendo tournament since elementary school. She is famous even to the girls. And then the other guy who praises Kaori as kind, is Amanogawa Kouki. This guys with a cool name like that of a hero, has an attractive face and figure, excellent grades, and very athletic. Rustling brown hair with gentle eyes, height of 180 cm and slender body. He is kind to everyone and has a very strong sense of justice. Since elementary school, he attended Yaegashii dojo, making him another stalwart and Shizuku childhood friend. Dozens of girls are aiming their eyes toward him, but since he always close to Shizuku and Kaori, looks like there aren't any girls who is brave enough to confess to him. The last guy with casual remarks, is Sakagami Ryuutarou. He is Kouki best friend, Sharp eyes mixed with merry feeling, very short hair and large build of body at 190 cm. At first glance it obvious this guy is the hot-blooded type. The things he likes are, effort or fervor or guts. He looks like the person who hate guys like Hajime who has no motivation.

Hajime want to say that he is not taking advantage of Kaori or something like that but he just kept silent, since it's useless to say it to him. And then, fixed he say, but it's impossible for Hajime, since his father is a game creator and his mother a shoujo mangaka. It's just hard to change what has been rooted for so long. Hajime just let it off with a wry smile. But as usual the angel drops a big bomb toward them. Kaori said she talked to Hajime because she wants to talk to him. Killing intent increases, and Hajime just looked toward the blue sky in an attempt to run from reality. Kouki again praises Kaori for being kind. Kouki is the type who always thinks that his opinion is right, but Hajime thought it's dangerous for him since Kouki sometimes didn't think about the other people feelings. Shizuku who understand the relations between each person, tell Hajime that both Kouki and Kaori didn't harbor ill will toward him. Hajime just shrug his shoulder and smile wryly. The chime rings, signalling the start of class, and Hajime just passed the class by sleeping.

Recess, Hajime regretted his foolishness for sleeping in, he now lose the chance to get outside quickly. Kaori invites him to eat together with her. Inside his heart, Hajime grumble. He kindly refuses Kaori invitation by telling he is full and she should eat with Kouki and others. Kaori is surprised to hear that Hajime only eats little, out of worry she ask again to eat with her, while she shares her lunch with him. Hajime screams in his heart. Kouki invite Kaori to eat with them (Kouki, Shizuku, Ryuutarou) and said that he will not permit Hajime for eating Kaori's delicious cooking while still half-asleep. Kouki flashed a handsome smile, but unfortunately, it does not have any effect to Kaori who is a natural dense (small quantity). She then innocently ask why Hajime needs Kouki permission. Shizuku unintentionally spurt into laughter while Kouki embarassedly laugh. As if trying to escape reality, Hajime jokingly pray for any god or priestess or shrine maiden to transfer them to another world. And it happened... Magic circle with geometric pattern started to shine brightly under Kouki feet. The class soon thrown into confusion and disorder. Their teacher who just arrived order them to get out from the class but it's too late, the light shines brightly and filled that class. This incident is known as one of those spirited away case, but that's for another story.

Did you not read the first post of the Syosetsuka ni narou thread amatsunagi made? Syosetsuka ni narou is a web novel posting site. Covering his face with both hands, and closing his eyes, Hajime feels countless numbers of rustle and clamour. When he opened his eyes, the first thing he sees is a big fresco, a beautiful fresco where a person with halo and blond long hair, spread his arms wide, smiling kindly. Hajime then looks around and realized they are standing in a very spacious room, they are inside a building with snow white marble as its material, the ceiling is shaped like a dome, maybe this building is something close to a cathedral?

Hajime and the other students are standing on top of large pedestal, the highest place in that room. It looks like everyone in the class get swallowed. He then look back and over there is Kaori, with the same blank amazement. confiming that she is unhurt, Hajime feel relieved. Hajime continued to check the surrounding, and there are around 30 people who Hajime suspect could give them some explanation. those 30 peoples are kneeling with both hands in their chest, as if praying. One of them, started to talk to them

"Welcome to Totas. Hero and his fellow compatriots. We warmly welcome all of you. I am the pope of the sacred church, I am called Ishtar Rangbard. I'm pleased to make an acquitance with you."

said the old man with a kind smile.

The students are then lead to what seemed like a reception hall. At the chief seats, Hatakeyama Aiko (Homeroom teacher) sit there along with Kouki, Kaori, Shizuku and Ryuutarou. Hajime? He along with the other students sit around those 5 person, with Hajime being the most behind. It seemed like everyone still can't grasp the situation yet so they didn't make any noise. Aiko is just teary eyed and do her job like what teacher should, while Kouki is calm, got to be his EX charisma right? After everyone sit down, maids started to flock in while pushing cart filled with drinks. Almost all male students are fixated toward what is called as the embodiment of boy's dream, genuine beatiful maid. Hajime is not an exception, he too fixated toward the maids, but suddenly he feel a chill run on the back of his spine as if someone is staring at him. He take a glance toward the source of stare and see...Kaori who is smiling broadly at him. Hajime decided he did not see anything.

Ishtar then started to explain, but he ask them to hear his words till the end. The explanation goes like this: The world they are in right now is called Totas. Totas is divided into 3 races: Human, Half-human, and Demon. Human live north, while Demon rules the south, and Half-human seems to live in the east, brimming with sea of trees. Human and Demon has been in conflict for more than hundreds of years. Demon race, although their number did not exceed Human race, their prowess surpassed that of Human. Human could only bested them in numbers. Continuing the cold war, several decades passed with no large-scale war happening. However, lately repeated strange occurences happen. That is, Demon started to use monsters. Monsters, are animal being that had absorbed magic power and transform abnormally into harmful and atrocious animals. Normally, Monsters cannot be enslaved due to their wild instinct, even if someone did, at most it would be 1 or 2. But recent happenings had overturn that common sense. And Human, now faced great danger with losing their advantage of quantity. Ishtar then tell them, that Lord Ehit, the guardian deity of Human race, and sole god of Sacred church, is the one who summoned Kouki and co. Perhaps Ehit already perceived that Human will perish, and to avert that, he called upon Kouki and co. Isthar tell Kouki and co. that their world, are in higher plane than Totas, therefore making Kouki and co. superior human possessing exceptional power. Just before their summoning, an oracle comes from Ehit, that Kouki will bring salvation to them. Therefore, Ishtar asked Kouki and co. to show their abilities, and under Ehit will, overthrown Demon race and save Human race.

Hajime didn't doubt the "will of the god", however someone who can feel an indescribable sense of danger of obeying that, stands up and fiercely protest, it's their homeroom teacher, Aiko. She can't allow her students to participate in war and ask Ishtar to return them because of 2 reasons: the students have family that are waiting for them, and what Ishtar do is just an abduction. She who is going to be 25-years-old this year, as a teacher of social studies, is unexpectedly popular. With height of 150 cm, bob cut hair and child-faced. She who busily runs around of the sake of her cute students are somehow charming. Her figure of trying to the utmost of effort, with a gap of her usual clumsiness, didn't fail to tickle students desire to protect her. She is called by her pet name "Ai-chan", even though the person herself always angry if called that, because she wants to preserve her dignity as a teacher. All students who pleasantly looked at Aiko as if looking at cute child trying her best, finally freeze when Ishtar opened his mouth

"I can sympathyze with your feelings. However... your return at the present condition are impossible"

Aiko ask what does Isthar mean by that, and he explain that it is by Ehit will, they are summoned here. So it has to be by Ehit will too, that they can finally return. That explanation drained of her strength and she sit back Other students started to lose their cool. Hajime himself is not all right, however being an Otaku, he already read so much story like this and already predicted several patterns which the situation will develop into: the best one is where they managed to keep their calm, or the worst one where they are treated as summoned slaves. Ishtar didn't said anything and just calmly observes the situation. Somehow Hajime could see scorn inside that eyes, considering his conduct up until now, he guessing that this Ishtar guy might have possibly wonder why these people are not happy, to be chosen by Ehit. Among the clamor, Kouki stands up and strike the table with a blam! The students are surprised by the sudden sound, and started to look at him. After making sure that their attention are focused at him, he start to speak:

"Everyone, there's no use even if you panicked at Ishtar here. I'm sure he also cannot helped it. ......I, I think I will fight. Because it's the truth that people of this world are in crisis of destruction. After knowing that, there's no way I can leave it alone. Moreover, If we are summoned to save Humanity, then maybe we can go back after saving them. Ishtar? How about that?"
"Hmm, that's right. I'm sure that Lord Ehit would not onstruct the wishes of saviour"
"We have powerful strength right? Since I come here, I can feel that I'm unusually brimmed with power"

In the end, all students decided to fight, though Hajime think these guys must not understand what it means to go into war. The only exception are Aiko who is shooken up, protested at Kouki helplessly. Ishtar, smiled broadly toward Kouki. Hajime notices that Ishtar have been observing everyone in this room, and must have know who is the most influental person in this group. He thought that this person is someone which he cannot lower his guard with. In his head, Hajime added this person to the list of someone that need special attention.

Hajime agreed with that, he thought, no matter how exceptional they are, without exception all of them are just modern high-school student of Japan, who are accustomed to living in peace. According to Ishtal, this temple is located at the base of God's mountain, which is in the territory of Hairihi Kingdom. Ishtar sent them toward the Royal palace with magic. After arrived they continued to the Throne Hall, walking along the glorious corridor, peoples are looking at them intently with expectation, be it knights, civil officials, or maids. It looks like everyone know who these new kids, Hajime walked at the end of line uncomfortably. At the Throne Hall, They met with the King, the Queen, and 3 children: one boy who is around 10 years old, a girl around 15-16 years old and little girl around 8 years old, all three of them has blonde hair and blue eyes. On left and right are 30 people standing in line. The King introduce himself as Elihid S. B. Hairihi, the Queen is Luluaria, the young Prince is Randell, the first princess is Liliana and the second princess is Mariabell. After that are introductions of the civil officials and knights. Along the way, Randell several times steal a glance toward Kaori. After the introduction ends, it is continued with a dinner party. Randell is eagerly talking with Kaori, which draws jealosy from male students. THe King explain that the kingdom will give them necessities of life, along training. The instructors are chosen from active-duty knights and Royal Court Magicians. After the party, they are lead to their own room, each person gets one room. Hajime could not fel comfortable, but fatigue beats him to a sleep and he dives into land of dreams.

The next day, they are immediately put into classroom for lecture. They are distributed with silver plates of 12 cm x 7 cm. Knight captain Meld Logins started to explain. These plates are called Status Plate. Literally, this plate indicate the owner status objectively into numbers. This is the most relied thing as an ID. Registration is done by dropping a drop of blood unto the magic circle on the plate. He also add that this Status Plate is artifact from the age of gods, so the principle is unknown. After registering, to see their status, the possessor just have to say "Status open". Artifact by the way, is powerful tools that cannot be reproduced normally with current technology, because the technology used is lost or unknown. Status Plate is one of the exceptional artifact that can be duplicated, and currently used as ID card. Every students start to register themselves and check their status, let's check with Hajime.

Meld explain that the max level for human is 100. Level could be increased either by training everyday, or by using magical items or magic. Magic Power by nature will raise the owner stats, it is easy to think that the owner unsconciously used magic power to strengthen themselves. Therefore, the higher magic power that person has, the stronger he is. After that is Job Class (Vocation) in other words, is talent. Job Class holder are very few. Job class are divided into 2 types: the combat type and non-combat type. The ratio for combat type is said to be 1 for every 1000 person, while non-combatant type is 1 for every 100 person, among the non-combat type, manufacture Job Classes are the most common job class. Hajime then looked at his status and his job class, Synergist has talent with Synergy. Hajime smiled and is happy since Ishtar said they are superior human with exceptional power so he must have an outstanding talent, but Meld next words threw his composure. Meld explains that at lvl 1, ordinary person status should be 10 or lower. He ask them to report their status plate, so that He can use the information as a reference for training subjects.

Hajime look at his plate again, and number 10 are lined beautifully. He wrack his brain to figure out if this number is true or not, because if it's true then he is the same as ordinary people in this world. Meld started to call them one by one and announce their status. Starting from Kouki, his status are:

I don't mind the "other world" type plots so much, but what's with the inexplicable VRMMO conventions? It's bizarre.

Its hardly unique in this either, as a bunch of works on Narou do the same thing.

His growth is 5 times from Hajime. Hajime himself understand he doesn't have magical aptitude. He explains about magic: magic is something that is done by doing 2 important things: magic circle and incantation, without these 2, magic cannot be executed. After that the process is attribute, power, range, extent, and absorption of Magic power. By the way, the longer the incantation the more the magic power will be consumed, the same could be said with how large the magic circle is, the bigger it is, the more complex it become. Additional process on more complex magic include: continuous or addition. This is the basic of magic, a process which is a must, the exception are with aptitude. Aptitude is, in another words, constitution pertaining how much the magic process could be omitted with: for example, if there is fire aptitude, then there is no need for the caster to do the process of filling the equation of magic with attribute (if he intend to do a fire magic), the caster just have to imagine a form of fire while chanting. Normally for people with aptitude, they could create a magic circle with diameter of 20cm.

And thus, with status impossible for direct combat, and having no aptitude for magic, Hajime couldn't be useful. All he can do is to alter, change and manufacture minerals. For these 2 months, Hajime is called by his classmates as "Incompetent". He sighed and thought of going to the half-human country. How about Demon race then? they worship different god and they looks toward other races with hostility. Hajime then thought of going to the west in exchange, because he wants to see mermaid there. Elisen Maritime town is a city at the coast of the west sea, where the only half-human tribe there, the Fisher tribe, is formally protected by the kingdom. Reason? 8 of 9 of marine products that circulated on the northern part of continent are imported from this city. Hajime think its outrageous? where the magnificent reason for discrimination have gone? After the west sea, is the great desert Glühen, and in this area, is an important relay point located in oasis, the principality of Ancarge and also Mountain of Great Fire. This mountain, is one of the 8 great dungeons. Great dungeons are the most dangerous zone in this world, At the south west of Heilig kingdom located one of the great dungeon which is Orcus Great Dungeon. Harziner Forests is also one of the great dungeon. the other great dungeons are rumored to be at Reißen Great Canyon, and at the southern part, Schnee Snowfield. Hajime then thought again, desert is an impossible place for him, so he have to check on the Empire at the slaves dealer, but then again, he doesn't have confidence to do it. What he mean by Empire, is Herrscher Empire, is one of the rising country famous for it's large scale assault on the demon race 300 years ago. A prevalent military country, also known as the country of mercenary. Herrscher Empire is located at the east of Heilig, with Führen Neutral Commercial town located in-between. Hajime then give up of thinking about it, after all, what he does are just escaping the reality. He then realized he is almost late for the training, and leave right away to the training facility.

Over there, he took out a sword but suddenly a shock hit him from behind and he stumbles 1 and 2 steps. He looks back and 4 bully are standing there. These people are one of 2 big reason for Hajime depression during the training session. (the other half is his own incompetency). These 4 bullies forcefully invite Hajime to spar with them at pretext of helping him. Hajime refuses. Angry, Daisuke punch his side, Hajime falls down, his pace contorted in pain. Before long Hajime is brought to the corner of the training facility by 4 of them. He is surrounded from 4 side, first his back is slashed by the scabbard of the sword, then he is assaulted by fireball, and wind strike. Practice called as bullying continues for a while, Hajime didn't counterattack. He learn from his experience, that if you get bullied, then you just have to grit your teeth and hold it until they lost get bored, in other words, don't give them pleasure or expressions they wanted. Hajime keep enduring the pain, when suddenly an angry voice of a girl could be heard. Hearing that sound, the 4 bullies make a face if they are busted, because the girl is Kaori, whom they fall in love with. Behind her is Kouki, Shizuku and Ryuutarou. Daisuke make an excuse that they are helping with Hajime training, but Kaori ignores them and run toward Hajime. Kouki, Shizuku and Ryuutarou chided them, and the 4 bullies runs away. Hajime thanked Kaori for saving him. As if crying, Kaori shakes her head. With an angry expression, she looks toward the 4 bullies. Kaori is going to chase and punish them but Hajime stopped her in a hurry, and said it's not always like this and she doesn't have to mind it. Kaori doesn't seem to be satisfied but after seeing Hajime smile and saying it's okay, she reluctantly back down. Shizuku tell Hajime not to hesitate to ask them for help if something happened, that way Kaori would also understand. Hajime thanked her for the advice, but Kouki, said Hajime should put more effort. He can't just make excuse of being weak as the reason for not getting stronger. He heard Hajime has been indulging himself in the library and said that if its him, he would spend time on forging himself. He then tell Hajime to be more serious, and thought that Daisuke and his cronies must have been irritated at Hajime unseriousness. Hajime just look at him dumbfounded. He know that Kouki didn't mean anything bad with that words, it just his thought process is thinking that every human are fundamentally good person. But that's the problem...that's the big problem for Kouki. Hajime seriously thought of warning about his mindset but he already lost strength to just explain Kouki misunderstanding and it's useless to talk to him. Shizuku who understand that, cover her face with her hand and sighed. She then apologize to Hajime. Hajime just smiled and said it's alright. He then get up and said the training already begun.

After the training usually it would be free time until dinner but Meld make an importance announcement. Tomorrow they will start an expedition toward Orcus Great Dungeon to experience a real battle. Hajime thought, his prospect is really grim...

it's because it the best method to bypass the need to exploit character growth,
With MMO status, we can easily tell did the chracter get stronger or weaker, rather than the old method of aura or expression which required good writing skill to not sound stupid.
