Oh, there finally is a thread for this. Well, here's the staff:
Original Creator: Satsuki Yoshino Director: Masaki Tachibana Series Composition/Script: Pierre Sugiura Character Design: Majiro Art Director: Hiroshi Kato Photography Director: Yu Wakabayashi Colour Setting: Hiromi Miyawaki Music: Kenji Kawai Sound Director: Kazuhiro Wakabayashi Sound Effects: Eiko Morikawa (Chura Sound) Calligraphy: Ungai Hara Animation Production: Kinema Citrus Website: http://barakamon.jp/staff/ The key visual on the website was illustrated by Nisan Yamamoto, who serves as a background artist on the staff. Seishu Handa is voiced by Daisuke Ono. I'm not very fond of this choice as he makes him sound a lot older than he is. |

Additional cast:
Naru Kotoishi: Suzuko Hara Hiroshi Kido: Koki Uchiyama Miwa Yamamura: Nozomi Furuki Tamako Arai: Rumi Ohkubo Hina: Rina Endou Kenta: Seiya Hirata Akihiko Arai: Megumi Han Yuujirou Kido (Village Chief): Tanuki Sugino Vice Principal: Fumihiko Tachiki Megumi Han aside, all the village children are voiced by child actors. The recording uses guide voices so that the kids can remember their lines without scripts. On occasions where they do need to use scripts, OnoD helps teach them how to read the difficult kanji. How sweet. =) EDIT: Oh and since no one mentioned it here, the previously two other casts mentioned before this were: Kawafuji: Junichi Suwabe Kosuke Kanzaki: Yuki Kaji |

Hmm... interesting comparison.... In my opinion, though, I would say it has a teensy bit of both while being quite different. The place the MC is sent to has no blood relatives, which is kinda "in the cards" for both of the series you mentioned, and it is definitely not a single character to effects change but a different environment as a whole (as per the OP of the thread).

The author wrote a few words about it at the end of the first volume of the manga. It's used in the dialect of the Gotou islands, where the story takes place, to describe an energetic person / a live wire. Most of the characters in the series could be said to be ばらかもん.
