Spoiler for Extremely big spoiler:

If you don't get what they're talking about in the context of Star Trek... then you're a relatively new fan.

Holy smokes Star Trek Into Darkness was epic. A lot better than the first. Not as many plot holes and a lot more cohesive overall. And Benedict Cumberbatch blew the doors off. Fantastic performance. As a Trekkie fan, I'm satisfied.

Following in the tradition of its predecessor, Star Trek: Into Darkness reinvents familiar scenes from the original movies to deliver something fresh, exciting and eminently relevant to a post-MTV audience weaned on fast-paced, kinetic entertainment.

I was especially thrilled by the way one crucial scene from Star Trek II was re-interpreted in this latest JJ Abrams movie. Those of you planning to watch Into Darkness this weekend, do yourselves a favour and avoid reading anything about the movie before heading to the theatres.

It'll be fun, I promise. You may not find it completely faithful to the spirit of The Original Series and its follow-up movies, but when you're enjoying yourself this much, trust me, it'll hardly matter.

Just came back from a showing tonight, and I agree with the other comments from viewers so far that the movie is right in keeping in the tradition set in the first. If you liked the first movie, I don't readily see why you wouldn't like the second. (But if you happened to really dislike the first, for whatever reason, it isn't a dramatic departure.) Was viewing with a cross-section of people with varying degrees of investment in Star Trek canon, and all seemed pleased by the movie (knowing full-well what sort of tone/style to expect based on the first).

Anyway, I expect I'll go to see the movie in theatres again soon. There's enough going on that it's worth watching a second time to pick up on the details you missed the first time.

Remember the core dynamic is Kirk-Spock-McCoy. Sulu and Uhura didn't have all that much to them in all those years. They would get things here and there. Chekov got some but that was mostly the being Russian and young bit early on, and then just the Russian later on. Scotty got the most attention outside the core dynamic.

If Karl Urban is as good as he was in the first one of these, McCoy should be perfect. It is then up to see if the actors for Spock and Kirk can make it work, and if the writers can make the core dynamic work between the three.

Will see it tomorrow afternoon.

I would say that this "reboot" (the two movies together) has shifted things somewhat for a variety of reasons, but I'll be curious to hear your thoughts about this after seeing the movie.

An interesting movie. More like the original series that the previous entry.

You were correct on pretty much all counts. I still don't question Karl Urban as McCoy. Still perfect.

Oh he's definitely good -- shines in every scene he's in. In general, the characters are all growing on me, so I do hope we'll see more in this series.

Chris Pine is getting there in terms of being Captian James T. Kirk. I have the feeling the series of movies is leading up to him being more like the Kirk we knew.

Odd that at one point Kirk was considered a bookworm academic type. But that was a different timeline. One when he entered the Academy as a teenager rather than at 25.

They still have a bunch of time to play with before they would get to what would be considered the "classic five year mission".

Spoiler for Changes:

Just saw it today. Solid movie all around, but for some reason it feels really short. With that, I mean that with some editing, the entire plot could have been compressed into a one-hour TV episode without missing much. At least, that's how I feel about it. And while the stakes are higher, for some reason I kinda feel like this movie didn't portray that all too well. The first one at least showed us how powerful the threat was, but here the big overarching threat is only implied.

Some of the twists though made me smile, especially the appearance of a certain character being used as metah4xx.

Fun Fun film. Somewhat predictable, and overall a little silly, but great acting (as well as chemistry) and a warp-speed pace really boost this new Star Trek. Alice Eve serves no purpose beyond her glorious IMAX 3-D T&A shot, but it was in glorious Imax 3-D so I find myself not caring too much. Still, the film has more in common with 80s action film than it does a Star Trek vehicle (though there are some on the nose political points concerning a countries response to acts of extreme aggression; it also helps that many characters are not as). Hopefully the next film will truly "go where no [Star Trek film] has gone before"...82/100.

Spoiler for ending spoilers...:
