The 'gaijin' that is not touching the food. I went to some onsen place in Yamagata with a bunch of grannies and grandpas, including okaasan (in law). I was the only foreigner and the only one in her twenties. The others were all past 50 years of age if I'm not mistaken. It still was fun and you can have a nice time with people that are not exactly your age even if their chewing gum wrappers say something that can be translated as: Your fake teeth won't stick to the gum!

This seems like a gross generalisation to me. I have met many people in their 5os and 60s who are younger in spirit than many 30 year olds. I work with a lot of women in their 50s and they look absolute fantastic. They make us not so worried about getting older. Maybe in Australia people stay looking younger because of the activities and life style. Fake teeth at 50? I don't think so! More like implants

Yeah, it was a generalisation. Actually the one with the special chewing gums was okaasan and she does have fake teeth even though she is only in her mid-fifties and has had them for several years now. I simply found what she translated for me from the gum wrappers funny.

My parents are about the same ages as her and they don't have fake teeth so I know what you mean.
