Well, there is a German proverb, "Aller guten dinge sind drei". ("All good things come in threes.")

Speaking of Germany, some weird stuff happening: http://www.spiegel.de/international/...797947,00.html
Apparently a Neo-Nazi group has been killing immigrants and robbing banks for 13 years, and they were only detected when two of them committed suicide and the third burned the house down. Oddities: * The men committed suicide via multiple rifle shots to the chest. * The DVDs detailing their actions survived the fire, despite the guns (?) being melted. * An agent of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution with right-wing views was apparently present at at least one of the murders.

These two countries have been setting up coffeeshops-cum-bars for the past decade and kicking-ass in KSK-SAS joint teams in the Gulf twice, it would be a shame to see friends suddenly start a fight over this.

Germany didn't send any ground troops in any of the gulf wars, only money. Only some GSG9 personal for protection of diplomats in Iraq.
And to that article: besides McAllister I couldn't name any popular Brit, nor do I personally know one. I argue that their influence is negligible. Relations between Germany and the UK are not very good at the moment: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...Tobin-tax.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/ar...ssy-boots.html |

Huge potentially inhabited water lake found on Jupiter moon
"In major extra-terrestrial news, scientists have announced the first discovery of
at least one huge body of liquid water beyond planet Earth, offering confirmation at last of a potential offworld habitat for alien life. The water in question - roughly enough to fill one of the North American Great Lakes - has been spotted beneath the ice cap covering Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter. Better still, it's thought that the ice floating atop the hidden lake is collapsing and mixing with the water below, offering evidence that the Europan ice cap mixes with the oceans of water beneath it - which makes it much more probable that life could exist in the deeps below." A disaster unfolding in the US that kicks any talk of how to pay for healthcare in the teeth. Diabetes, in particular, has horrific complications if untreated by exercise, diet, and weight control.

I seem to recall that scientists and science fiction writters have been talking about Europa for several decades now. I think it was only after the Voyager probes went by though, as I don't recall a lot of speculation after the Pioneer probes past Jupiter...just that they had a lot better images of the place when 2001: A Space Odyssey came out so they used Jupiter instead of Saturn for the film. By the time of 2010: Odyssey Two, Voyager probes had been to Jupiter again and the idea life on Europa had come up due to the theories of underwater vents like in the Atlantic Ocean providing heat for life under the ever cracking ice shelfs.

Chalk it up to the law of unintended consequences: A team of American and British researchers found that when debtors are presented with information about how much interest they will pay if only minimum payments are made — information currently required on credit card statements under the CARD Act — they are more likely to pay only that minimum amount and no more, increasing both the duration of their indebtedness and the amount of interest they eventually pay.
