With that said, here's chapter 1.

(The dark chamber of Clio's prison)

"Cold..."

"Its so cold..."

"Wait... warm air..."

"I feel warm... air..."

Opening her eyes, she sees nothing but darkness. However, she can feel that she is encased in ice with the exception of her right hand. This is where she feels the warm air. Instinctively, she calls upon her powers. Being dormant for so long, her powers were slow to respond. Slowly yet surely gaining in strength, the levels of mana in her start to increase. Reaching a suitable level, she starts channeling power to her hand, focusing hard on summoning one of her minions.

"<Raptus Summoning>"

A few feet away, a belkan summoning sigil springs into being and with it, emerges a creature of nightmares, one of Clio's summoned beasts.

[Go... Find those with sparks of power... bring them to me...]

[Do not be seen...]

Obeying its mistress commands, the creature leaves the chamber.

Repeating the process of summoning again, she calls upon additional creatures of which she sends half with instructions identical to the first and to the rest, she give then the task of breaking her free from her prison.

While the rest are working on breaking the mistress free, the hunters move swiftly, their senses dimly noting that they are deep underground. Searching about they slowly ascend and near to the surface, they discovered a large group of prey. Yet these are not the one that the mistress wanted for none of them possess the spark of power. Although they could easily destroy the prey, they would be detected. The mistress's commands were clear, do not be seen.

Settling down, they hid, waiting for the prey to leave so that they can venture past and find prey that their mistress wanted. Eventually, as the temperature lowered the prey left. Rousing themselves from their long wait, they proceeded towards the surface, passing by an area with cold, metallic ground. When they reached the surface finally, the hunters scattered, each going in a different direction.

One of the hunters, coincidently the first to be summoned, soon reached a town. Locating a pair of prey with sparks of power nearby, it slowly stalks them, waiting for the opportunity to capture one of them without being seen by the other.

Unaware that they are in danger, the two humans are chatting with each other.

"What a nice night. Too bad the two of us are stuck patrolling instead of relaxing, right Veronica?"

"Stop complaining Tylor. Can't you shut up for once? Ever since I got partnered with you, all you do is complain, complain and complain some more. Do something else for a change!"

"Do something else? Like what?"

"I don't know, your duty without complaining for once perhaps?"

"Duty? I didn't sign up with the Bureau just to do patrol duty in the middle of nowhere."

"Then why did you sign up for? Were you hoping to be discovered to be a prodigy like the Four Aces?"

"......"

"Ha! Got it in one didn't I?"

"Shut up. I need to take a piss."

"Sure, sure, avoid the subject... Hey wait! Don't just piss here in front of me!"

"Why? Scared to see something you might like?"

"Nah, just giving you a break this time. Seeing your little twig is gonna make me laugh and tease you for months."

"The feeling's mutual. Now get into the bushes or hold it in."

"Fine, fine. The bushes it is."

A chance! The prey have separated, but which one to attack? Deciding on the female, the hunter swiftly incapacitates her quietly and the only signs of this attack are a few scuff marks on the ground. Grabbing its victim, the hunter starts the journey back to its mistress.

Meanwhile, Tylor finishes up his "business" but sees no signs of his partner. Thinking that she has gone back to their lodgings and that she has left him there, Tylor proceeds back as well, complaining all the while. It would be when the dawn arrives that he would realize the truth. His partner Veronica has gone missing. In other surrounding towns, similar cases of people disappearing have also turned up.

For the next few days, a search is performed but there were no signs of the missing people at all. Then it happened again. People just disappeared without anyone seeing anything. Like before, the searchers found nothing. Sending a plea to the TSAB for help, they hope their investigators can help them find their missing people.

Hayate's darkest creation, the Freischütz is a projectile of the purest malice that will hit without fail any target she wishes. Nothing can defend from it, nor could it be fooled by illusions and decoys. Only sheer luck (lots of it) can prevent a direct hit.

As Hayate intones the aria, waves of darkness flow from her and converge into a black orb of concentrated negativity. At the very moment she commands it to fly, the Freischütz would have already blown through the heart of the victim (vital core for those without a heart), regardless of distance and protective measures. The effect is instant; no amount of agility can evade it. Even if the Freischütz somehow misses the heart, it can still deal substantial damage and pain if it hits any part of the body, and corrodes the body and soul with a debilitating curse.

The Freischütz is not without its faults. It can only be used against animated (but not necessarily living) beings. Every time Hayate uses it, intense pain (as if she has been pierced by thousands of white-hot needles) runs all over her body. At the same time, a faint black snake-like tattoo will slowly grow all over her body, darkening and spreading over her body with every shot. The tattoo and the accompanying torment (physically and mentally) will remain with her until she removes it with a tedious purification ritual, after which she will be unable to use the Freischütz for at least one moon cycle. Six is the maximum number of shots allowed if the curse tattoo is not removed. The seventh shot will not be under her control, hitting (and killing) anything at random (including herself). If she is not killed by the seventh shot, the curse will then activate and claim her life as payment, her soul lost in oblivion forever.

I must say that I love this spell - attacks that require the user to pay some "price" in exchange for their massive power appeal to me very greatly. The only thing is that I just can't see Hayate attempting something like this for some reason. But it is an amazing spell imo.

Interestingly, one of my characters is strongly connected to Hayate and the Book of Darkness, and he has a move that works in a similar fashion.

Anyway:

Alignment: Good

Combat Style: Ancient Belkan, though has some Midchildan refinements; he however considers Midchildan magic beneath him and only useful as a supplement to Belkan magic.

Specialization: None - he can attack with immense effectiveness from any side of the magical spectrum. He's better at close combat than at long-range attacks, but does well in any of them.

Looks: Rainharst has shoulder-length black hair, with dark grey eyes. Those eyes are legendary in Belkan territories, described as "pools as deep as space, oceans as dark as the night, galaxies profound as existence". He is tall, about 67 inches in height, and weighing about 180 lbs. He has long, almost elfine ears, and a sharp face. He usually wears some combination of black, white, and green, usually a shirt, vest and trousers. He has a very dignified look to him, as befitting his position.

Device: The Nachtgeist - a Lost Logia device, the same as the Book of Darkness. It was salvaged from the destruction of Al Hazard long ago when it was destroyed, but was found to be unusable. Rather than forging his own intelligent device, as part of his kingdom's training, he asked and recieved permission to attempt to repair the Nachtgeist. To the suprise of all, he was successful at restoring it - it was a task not only considered impossible, but because of the vast amount of magical energy in the device, suicidal.

When Nachtgeist speaks, it speaks in a calm, clear male voice.

Damage: Medium to High
Speed: Mach 1
Range: 10km

This is a firing spell similar to Divine Buster or Plasma Blade; relatively straightforward, he switches to firing mode and discharges. It has incredible range however, due to its incredible accuracy and magical targeting system.

Blitzstreik (Lightning Strike)

An attack in which he attacks his opponent at high speed and slashes at them multiple times in quick succession. The bread and butter of his offensive assault.

Alternate Modes:

Blitz Mode:

As the name implies, it emphasizes speed. Similar to Fate's Sonic Form, he removes his armor and focuses himself on speed and power, but loses a signficiant amount of defense, both against physical and magical attacks, so much so that even when they do not connect with him directly he can still be damaged by a strong magical attack. He can actually manipulate air in such a manner as to damage an opponent, or at least disorient them.

Panzer Mode:

Again as the name implies, it emphasizes defense, at the cost of speed and agility. However, the heavier armor can take a lot of hits before breaking.

Feuert Mode (Firing Mode)

This is the firing mode for Nachtgeist, he usually activates this after a physical exchange. Not his preferred means of combat, but he is a deadly sniper nevertheless.


General Power Level:

While his array of abilities is truly impressive, he's a "jack-of-all-trades" but a master of only one. He's unmatched in close combat, but not as good in other areas of battle.

In his kingdom, he has the rank of "Lord" which is roughly equivalent to SS in the Midchildan system; however, he is believed to slightly exceed the capabilities of the strongest SS class mages.

Still working on the backstory and attacks, as well as the other characters I have in mind. I'm actually sort of rushing to get something posted, so sorry for the incompleteness.

Very powerful... HAXX even.

To a certain extent in real life though, modern militaries do tend to put in hot blood elements into their troops - witness the Army and the Marines, and tell me they aren't hot blooded. On the other hand, their hot blood doesn't reach the extremes of Gurren Lagann and the Hot Blood Brotherhood (Smith, Wesson, Franz... anybody else for the brotherhood?)

Besides, when you have Johnson riding shotgun on you, the only hot blood that's allowed is the blood of your enemies as it smokes from tracer rounds burning their bodies...

Even though its incomplete, It still screams of H4XX to me. His range attacks are impressive but his close combat is even better?! High speed forms and high armour forms?! Capabilities that slightly exceed the strongest SS class mages?! To me this is a H4XX character in the making. I was too new and too inexperience before but this time, I'm going to be proactive and start cutting this one down to size.

Combat style: ancient belka + some mid style. I'm not going to say anything about only 3 ancient belka users left as I'm sure you have a suitable way of explaining how he learned ancient belka. Btw ancient belka + some mid style is more or less Neo-belkan style.

Specialization: Try to pick one. Able to attack with immense effectiveness from any side of the magical spectrum is rather H4XX to me. No one is that good.

Looks: nice description. Good job.

Device: a Lost Logia from Al Hazard and he manages to fix it where others have failed... Looks like he has plenty of time don't he, to train in combat and to study and even repair the device. And said device is equivent to the Book of Darkness. No faults with the device? No tradeoffs? How interesting...

Spells:
Twilight Strike - SS rank? Spell effect is too weak for such a high ranked spell. Try AA rank instead.
Lightning Strike - sounds ok

Alternate modes: Nice descriptions but like I said before High speed, high armour pick one. Or retain them if you wish but ditch firing mode. Your character perfers melee right? Why have it then?

General Power Level: Unmatched in close combat? Right...

That are my comments on your unfinished character. I'm of the opinion that no OC should be ever be stronger than Hayate, except villians of course.

@Aaron008R: OC's to be involved? Basically anyone who wants to get involved. It will be a rescue mission but with restrictions.

You will first meet up with an injuried Ginga at the entrance to the "hive" (I'm using this for now till i can think of something better). You will have to evacuate her while fighting off waves of "Raptus" aka Aliens. Once you fight off the beasts, you will decend to rescue others trap deep below. The last one to be rescued will be at the deepest part of the "hive". You will fight something there.

Main problems? Lack of light, it is very dark. Lights are not going to be effective. You will be underground so space will be an issue so forget all your "super powerful AOE attacks" or risk heavy friendly fire. Same for flight magics, there is really only 1 place you can fly. Next, the "Hive" isn't that stable, so melee is perferred, use ranged attacks if you want, but no cannon /bombardment spells.

The young trainee Enforcer of 17 stood there, resolute, yet her thoughts wandering in her reminiscence, grasping for a memory.

“Stupid as these two may be, I agree that passing this girl is not the best for her.”

She hugged the reports she held in her hands tightly.

“I personally do not know Mai Enna. But I know that she is a unique mage with lots of potential, talented in the field of Midchildan Chaos Magic, a rarest among the rare. And from your own recommendations I can see she’s a truly exceptional mage to have passed your standards.”

Fate watched as Teana bowed her head, a melancholic expression filled with much regret.

“We are both the same age, and we’re both striving to reach the position of Enforcers in the future. But unlike me, Mai was born with talent and power, things I worked so hard to attain. She was born with greatness, and I was not.

So it pains me to know that someone like her, could make such a common mistake…”

The girl’s voice nearly broke.

“… A mistake like mine.”

That mistake, and Fate had personally witnessed it nearly two years ago, in a mock battle between this girl Teana, her teammate and closest friend Subaru, and their instructor...

Fate’s closest friend, and soulmate, to whom she owed her very life and her very existence to… Nanoha Takamachi.

“No Teana, it’s not your mistake. It’s our mistake. All of us.”

A mistake of youth. If only it could be called that. And yet there are people who would still do it even if they knew the consequences, the results.

Because in their eyes, it had been the right thing to do.

Nanoha, in her quest to serve, her need to be there for those who needed her, and her sacred duty. Who was unknowingly destroying herself with her own magic, until that incident that left her helpless and cripple for nearly a year…

Teana, whose desire to prove her brother’s worth, in a past ridden with humiliation, doubt and shame, who had jeopardized and endangered Nanoha’s life with her reckless actions.

Even herself, whose nearly sacrificed her entire life just for the sake of redemption, before her eyes were opened to the worth of her own existence, to both herself, and for the ones who cared.

And now… Another soul was treading down the same path they had walked on, a path that will only lead them to their destruction…

With her elbows on the table Fate clasped both her trembling hands together and rested her forehead on her raised hands. She breathed deep, letting the air fill her lungs, the air which carried the determination of the three people in front of her, their immutable concern over the one they would pass judgment on today.

Her voice carried that determination.

“Smith, Wesson… if I do this, you must understand the responsibility that will be placed on you after this. And the consequences of this decision.”

Wesson nodded in reply. “We’ve thought this through, and we understand completely.”

“And…” Teana voiced out, with a hint of concern, her poise returning. “Even if we say we’re doing the right thing for her, she’ll hate us for this.”

The two brothers could only bow their heads to her words. And Smith’s voice carried only his sadness.

“No Teana. She’ll hate ME for it, for this decision was my idea, and she’ll know this.

It is better I suffer her hatred now, than suffer her meaningless death later.”

Fate raised her head to look at them.

“Are you sure this is the only way?”

Smith nodded slowly. “She can be a very stubborn girl.

There is no other way.”

Their conviction was sealed. The reasons had been revealed. And they all understood what needed to be done.

“Very well...”

And only minutes after those words were spoken, Teana had left… and Mai had entered the room. A young girl expecting the good news that she had gotten wind of beforehand. A girl filled with hopes and dreams, somewhat naïve, yet justified. For she had earned that right to those hopes and those dreams with her own efforts, her will, her strength.

But it was not enough.

For the sake of those hopes, and for the sake of her wishes, as much as it pained them to do so....

They will have to be crushed.

And now, in the wake of Mai’s abrupt enraged departure, with the bitter taste of her own decision still fresh in her lips, Fate stood up from her chair, and turned to watch the dim, swirling colors of inter-dimensional space outside her window, gazing with her eyes concerned.

Under the curtain of a cold, heavy rain shower, letting its gentle yet unforgiving chill soak through her skin, she walked in the dim of the alley.

The cacophony of falling raindrops muted her thoughts, dulling her mind to the harshness of this weather. Dulling her skin to the freezing cold air. To the bitterness in her heart.

Alone and miserable was she, drenched in rain, her chasm in her emotions unfathomable, her pain insufferable. Numb was her wet skin, by these dark emotions that had anesthetized her capacity for feeling.

Let the rain come. Let the darkness envelop her in its grip. For sorrow was her friend, and despair her only companion. Let them swallow her in their abyss, where she can find comfort from this wretched misery.

Mai…

Within the hazy depths of her vision, she saw the ghostly shape a young woman, dressed in white, with her mass of long maroon hair behind her. Like an angel of death, slowly, it floated nearer and nearer.

Mai…

An angel of death calling out her name, here to deliver her from the hell that was her confused heart, from the mass of twisted emotions that strangled her soul, from this life that held nothing else from her.

“Mai?”

But death the ghost was not. Only the sweet voice of an angel. A most familiar angel.

Her trembling lips found the strength to call out its name…

“… Gwen?”

… and in return, were the arms that wrapped around her suddenly, and pulled her close into the angel’s embrace, as that sweet voice spoke to her once more.

“Mai, it’s alright now, I’m here.”

Under the cold rain and the evening darkness… in the tender arms and the caring warmth of a dearest friend, Mai Enna finally cried.

CHAPTER 3

Spoiler for Apartment 812, Gretel Tower, Schnee Town:

Morning arrived.

Lazily Yutaro opened his eyes and stared into the empty ceiling. His mind was blank, his body was exhausted and his soul was empty. The night before, he had been indulged in Galatea’s welcoming party at the Belkan Knights’ Schnee Town branch, and he had been performing for the School representative in front of everybody. Now alone in his apartment, he was lying inside his bedroom with nothing to plan for the day, and he was very dead tired at the moment.

“That’s right,” he murmured. “Aura and Freya are going to start their test today. I wonder how they’re doing now.” He closed his eyes as he was still sleepy and in the need to doze off. “I think I’ll call my buddies later today…”

He felt a pair of hands resting upon his chest.

“Holy crap! I didn’t remember sleeping with someone!”

To make matters even more complicated, he was lying down on the futon, together and alone with two mysterious persons. For a while he was telling his subconscious he was having a dream, and was convinced when he turned to the right. “Oh, it’s just a girl…” he murmured and resumed his sleep.

His eyes stormed wide open.

“A GIRL????”

He looked back at the girl to his left. And then to the girl to his right. He could not have been anymore correct, because he was sandwiched between Aura and Freya!

What’s worse, the twin sisters were donning nothing more than togas!

“What the hell are they doing here?!!!”

The Gemini Sisters stirred, moved closer so their mouth was an inch from his head, and wrapped their arms about his body. “Yutaro, it’s still early…” Freya moaned, her warm breath making him tingle.

“Oneechan, can I take Yutaro to the bathroom…?” Aura murmured and brushed her lips on his neck.

“Please… please tell me this cannot be real!” He resisted, and proved to be fatal when the girls clenched their hands on his pyjama. He cringed when they unconsciously bit their earlobes, and tried fleeing the situation only to stare into the Gemini Sisters’ droopy eyes. “Aura? Freya?”

And they were dreamily smiling.

“Yutaro…”

The girls kissed his face. It lasted only for a few seconds, and when it did they disengaged and caressed his cheeks, giggling together.

“Ohayo, Yutaro…”

(Outside the door, Poseidon was grinning to an imaginary audience. With its left paw holding the camera, the white tiger sported a thumb’s up. “Objective complete. Operation Morning Love II is a success,” it declared. “Mission accomplished.”)

“OH GOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Spoiler for ground level, Gretel Tower:

“Ohayo, Oneesama,” Freya greeted.

“Gala-nee, ohayo,” Aura said.

Galatea and Sao smiled. “Good morning, Freya, Aura,” Galatea replied.

“Good morning, Master Aura. Good Morning, Master Freya,” Sao greeted.

“Ohayo, Sao-chan,” the sisters replied with a smile.

“Are both of you ready?” Galatea asked.

The Gemini Sisters nodded. “Yes, we are.”

“Well, shall we get going? I believe we should begin our test at the headquarters,” Galatea said.

“Yes, please,” the Gemini Sisters answered.

Galatea turned to Yutaro. “What’s the matter, Wakamoto Yutaro?” she asked.

Yutaro had to cry. “I had a nightmare last night…” he sobbed. “It was the worst nightmare in my whole life. Why it had to be me?”

“Hmm…” Galatea took her time to think of the file she had been carrying along. “Phantom 21 always experienced nightmares…” she pondered and wrote on the notepad. “I wonder if Wakamoto Yutaro shares some of the Lost Candidate’s…”

“Now, now, Galatea,” Poseidon spoke as it appeared next to her. “I’m sure you don’t mind leaving Yutaro and his personal matters alone, do you?”

“Unfortunately, I can’t,” Galatea spoke and wrote down something on the notepad. “On related note, Poseidon, do you know that you voluntarily exposed your identity to the people while acting in such… a hideous way?”

Poseidon twitched. “But I didn’t reveal my Full Drive form, did I?” the white tiger tried reasoning with Galatea.

“If that is the case, then I shall assign you to this test as well,” Galatea said.

Poseidon stooped its head in defeat. “I have lost…”

Yutaro became more depressed. As if being greeted by the toga-donning Gemini Sisters in the morning was not enough, being KISSED by the twin sisters together was the most outrageous experience he had ever faced. Not only that, he already felt the murderous intents of several Belkan knights who happened to live in the same building as they walked past him.

“What’s the matter, Yutaro?”

Yutaro suddenly turned all cheerful. “Ah, nothing! Nothing! Just thinking of my past, present and future,” he answered Freya’s question. “Right, Poseidon?” The white tiger laughed as well and nodded in frantic way.

Freya was not satisfied. “Are you really sure? You look like you have sickness or something.”

“Sickness? What is that? Is it delicious?” Yutaro replied and continued laughing in idiotic manners.

“Oneechan, I think it’s because he isn’t ready for being shared,” naughtily Aura suggested.

Freya giggled. “I think you’re right,” she said and seized Yutaro’s right arm, while Aura took his left arm. “Let’s have our breakfast, Yutaro. We’ll pay.”

“Just say whatever you want, and we’ll prepare it for you,” Aura added.

“Is it alright?” the twin sisters asked.

“God, please help me…” Yutaro mumbled in tears.

“Yutaro is a lucky yaro…” the knights cursed. “He is a HAPPY YARO…”

“By the way, Poseidon,” Galatea said.

“Yes, Galatea?”

“Did you take their pictures?”

The white tiger grinned. “I thought you wouldn’t ask,” Poseidon murmured and handed over the camera. Galatea took the camera and browsed through the picture folder with Sao. “What do you think?”

“Master Yutaro looks satisfied in the picture,” Sao said as they came across the picture of the terrified Yutaro sandwiched by the toga-donning Gemini Sisters. “And the twins look very happy sharing their hugging pillow, aren’t they?”

Galatea chuckled. “Tell me more about this… ‘Sharing is Caring’ thing.”

“As you wish, Galatea,” Poseidon nodded.

Spoiler for Hansel Café, Schnee Town:

“Yutaro, say ‘AA’!”

Lazily the boy obliged and opened his mouth. The Gemini Sisters giggled and spoon-fed him with honey cake. The girls were sweetly smiling as Yutaro finished the cake, and were now asking him to be fed with grapes. Around them, the knights were fuming in jealousy at Yutaro’s luck and were murmuring in Belkan German as they planned to get rid of the Street Performer. Yutaro was very alert of the situation but was helpless as he was continually pleaded by the sisters to finish the meal for them.

Galatea took the time from their visit to the café to review her missions. (Sitting next to her, Sao was preparing the tea for her Master, not noticing how long the customers were ogling her in admiration.) Apart from investigating Phantom 21 and conducting the Inspector Test, she was also asked by the Nobles to investigate a recently discovered Belkanite trafficking route near Belka/Mid-Childa border. She had realized the potency of the crystal as a youth-enhancing agent, and was concerned of its popularity in black markets. She was thinking to seek for help from the Belkan Knights regarding the matter.

“Gala-sama!”

She turned around and saw several knights kneeling before her. “Gentlemen, how surprising to see you again this morning,” she said.

“It is our pleasure to see you in all your beauty, Gala-sama,” the knights said. “What can we do for you today?”

“Well, for one thing, I’d like to know you better,” Galatea answered and took the teacup from Sao’s hand. “Thank you, Sao.”

“You’re very much welcome, Master,” Sao replied with a smile that made everyone infatuated.

“As you wish.” The group of five knights gathered up and saluted Galatea in formal Belkan Knighthood fashion. “I am Kurosawa Shoji,” the knight began. “And these are my comrades: Millar Richardson, Victor Davenport, Jonathan Hamilton and Samuel Fischer.”

The quartet knelt again. “We are the Knights of Yellow Rose. Pleased to meet you, Gala-sama.”

“Pleased to meet you, too, gentlemen,” Galatea greeted.

“Permission to speak, Mistress Gala,” Hamilton said.

“Yes. You may speak,” Galatea said and sipped the tea.

“Do you wear black today?”

Galatea spat the tea. “What… what in the name of the School is that question for?” Sao giggled at the reaction and poured another cup of tea.

The knights gathered up, talked to each other and returned to kneel before Galatea. “It’s nothing very important. But we have read from Terran magazine that gorgeous woman always wears black,” Hamilton said in blatant formality.

“And we understand that black symbolizes a woman’s deepest desire for love,” Richardson continued. “Is that correct, Mistress Gala?”

The Gemini Sisters giggled in devious way. “Oneesama always wears black, you know,” Freya told Aura. “In fact, she looks sexier in black.”

“True, true,” Aura agreed. “Gala-nee loves black. She isn’t the Black Witch for nothing.”

Sao nodded as well. “It is true that Master Galatea loves collecting black attires,” she said and gave Galatea the teacup, “and her favourite has to be the special night gown she got from her instructor on her 17th birthday.”

The rest of the knights bled their nose at the thought of Galatea showing off her beauty in the black gown. “Gala-nee in black…” they murmured and tossed many thumbs up at Galatea. “WE APPROVE!”

Yutaro blinked in confusion. “What are you girls talking of?”

The Gemini Sisters put their fingers on their lips. “That is a SE-C-RET.”

Galatea blushed in embarrassment at Sao and her twin sisters’ leg-pulling statements. Well, I…” She pretended she did not hear the question and continued drinking the tea. “Anyway, I am looking for help to investigate the illegal Belkanite trafficking. Would anyone of you be pleased to help?” she spoke.

“Of course,” Shoji replied. “For you, Gala-sama, we will do anything for you.”

Just then Matilda and Keiko arrived at Hansel Café. They met up with Yutaro who was still asking the Gemini Sisters on what they had been talking of about ‘black attires’. “Yutaro, Frieda wants to meet you at the headquarters this afternoon. Are you free?” Matilda said.

“Is it about the Christmas gathering?” Yutaro asked. “That’s good, because I have several things to discuss with her.”

The knights left their tables. Without any warning, they marched towards Yutaro and, ignoring the Gemini Sisters and their senior-ranked female officers, caught the boy and strangled him with ropes. Carrying the heavily shackled boy out of the café, they headed to the nearby lake and lifted him high into the air, not taking attention of everybody else who had already left the café.

“Lucky bastard must be exterminated for greater good,” they hymned in unison.

“Guys? Guys! What is going on?!” Yutaro shouted and tried untying the ropes with great difficulty. “What did I do that you’re doing this to me?”

“Happy bastard must be sacrificed for the sake of mankind,” the knights continued.

“Sacrifice? No way! Let go off me!” Yutaro frantically writhed beneath the ropes and chains, even as the knights were aiming him at the centre of the lake. “Somebody help!”

The knights tossed Yutaro into the lake. “Say hello to the lake monster down there!”

The Knights of Yellow Rose were appalled. “Idiot! What the hell are you doing?!” Shoji screamed at the knights.

“Crap! I forgot Yutaro can’t swim!” Matilda gasped.

“Yutaro!” Freya and Aura cried out.

“What is this act of hostility?” Keiko asked and glanced at the knights. “What do you think you’re doing to Yutaro-kun? You shouldn’t treat him with prejudice just because you’re angry with him,” she said in soft (but dissatisfied) voice.

The knights shivered in fear. “Keiko-chan is going to be angry…” they whimpered and shrank in size due to the intimidating voice of Keiko’s words.

“Now apologize,” Keiko said and stared at the knights in melancholic gaze.

The knights hugged each other and cried in fear. “Uuu… we’re very sorry…”

Freya frowned. “Can’t be forgiven…” she murmured and clenched a fist. “This cannot be forgiven…”

She left the crowd. “Freya! Where are you going?!” Galatea shouted and was later horrified when Freya jumped into the lake. “Freya! Come back here!”

“Oneechan!” Aura screamed.

Yutaro was descending to the lake floor. He had managed to undo the ropes around his arms but was facing difficulty reaching for the steel ball that was tied to his legs. It was a race against time, and he was running out of air.

He finally released the steel ball, but was suddenly drowned when water rushed into his windpipe. “I can’t die here yet!” he choked and tried swimming to the surface. He suddenly crammed and was sinking into the deep. “Damn it… somebody!”

He felt his left arm seized. He looked up, and saw Freya above him, suspended in the watery volume as she steadily kept him from sinking. “Freya… thank God…”

The girl pulled her towards him.

“I’m sorry, Yutaro…”

She pressed her lips against his. It was hard, deep and sealed as she transferred some of the air into his lungs, but for Yutaro it was yet another shocking experience that sent his world careening. He could do nothing but stay still and let Freya deepen the kiss.

The kiss disengaged. Yutaro and Freya stared into each other. He was startled, not only because the Gemini Sister had stolen his first kiss, but also because he saw pointed ears emerging from her golden hair.

And there was a look of gladness from her eyes.

“Freya?”

He did not know what happened after that, because the next thing he knew was that he was already out of the water, held tightly between Freya’s arms as they were hovering above the lake.

“Are you alright, Yutaro?”

He looked up at Freya. He was startled; spreading before him was a pair of dark blue wings, protruding out of the girl’s back, blocking the sunlight.

And the girl was smiling to him.

“Just… who are you?”

He blacked out.

So?

next stop: The Family Arrives. Expect more madness and this....

Main problems? Lack of light, it is very dark. Lights are not going to be effective. You will be underground so space will be an issue so forget all your "super powerful AOE attacks" or risk heavy friendly fire. Same for flight magics, there is really only 1 place you can fly. Next, the "Hive" isn't that stable, so melee is perferred, use ranged attacks if you want, but no cannon /bombardment spells.

She hugged the reports she held in her hands tightly.

“I personally do not know Mai Enna. But I know that she is a unique mage with lots of potential, talented in the field of Midchildan Chaos Magic, a rarest among the rare. And from your own recommendations I can see she’s a truly exceptional mage to have passed your standards.”

Fate watched as Teana bowed her head, a melancholic expression filled with much regret.

“We are both the same age, and we’re both striving to reach the position of Enforcers in the future. But unlike me, Mai was born with talent and power, things I worked so hard to attain. She was born with greatness, and I was not.

So it pains me to know that someone like her, could make such a common mistake…”

The girl’s voice nearly broke.

“… A mistake like mine.”

That mistake, and Fate had personally witnessed it nearly two years ago, in a mock battle between this girl Teana, her teammate and closest friend Subaru, and their instructor...

Fate’s closest friend, and soulmate, to whom she owed her very life and her very existence to… Nanoha Takamachi.

“No Teana, it’s not your mistake. It’s our mistake. All of us.”

A mistake of youth. If only it could be called that. And yet there are people who would still do it even if they knew the consequences, the results.

Because in their eyes, it had been the right thing to do.

Nanoha, in her quest to serve, her need to be there for those who needed her, and her sacred duty. Who was unknowingly destroying herself with her own magic, until that incident that left her helpless and cripple for nearly a year…

Teana, whose desire to prove her brother’s worth, in a past ridden with humiliation, doubt and shame, who had jeopardized and endangered Nanoha’s life with her reckless actions.

Even herself, whose nearly sacrificed her entire life just for the sake of redemption, before her eyes were opened to the worth of her own existence, to both herself, and for the ones who cared.

And now… Another soul was treading down the same path they had walked on, a path that will only lead them to their destruction…

Unless…

“I understand now, you three. “

With her elbows on the table Fate clasped both her trembling hands together and rested her forehead on her raised hands. She breathed deep, letting the air fill her lungs, the air which carried the determination of the three people in front of her, their immutable concern over the one they would pass judgment on today.

Her voice carried that determination.

“Smith, Wesson… if I do this, you must understand the responsibility that will be placed on you after this. And the consequences of this decision.”

Wesson nodded in reply. “We’ve thought this through, and we understand completely.”

“And…” Teana voiced out, with a hint of concern, her poise returning. “Even if we say we’re doing the right thing for her, she’ll hate us for this.”

The two brothers could only bow their heads to her words. And Smith’s voice carried only his sadness.

“No Teana. She’ll hate ME for it, for this decision was my idea, and she’ll know this.

It is better I suffer her hatred now, than suffer her meaningless death later.”

Fate raised her head to look at them.

“Are you sure this is the only way?”

Smith nodded slowly. “She can be a very stubborn girl.

There is no other way.”

Their conviction was sealed. The reasons had been revealed. And they all understood what needed to be done.

“Very well...”

“...Very well then.”

And only minutes after those words were spoken, Teana had left… and Mai had entered the room. A young girl expecting the good news that she had gotten wind of beforehand. A girl filled with hopes and dreams, somewhat naïve, yet justified. For she had earned that right to those hopes and those dreams with her own efforts, her will, her strength.

But it was not enough.

For the sake of those hopes, and for the sake of her wishes, as much as it pained them to do so....

They will have to be crushed.

And now, in the wake of Mai’s abrupt enraged departure, with the bitter taste of her own decision still fresh in her lips, Fate stood up from her chair, and turned to watch the dim, swirling colors of inter-dimensional space outside her window, gazing with her eyes concerned.

“I’m sorry Mai.. but please understand.”

2050 hours.

Darkness.

Her only place of solitude.

Everpresent, there was no place that the darkness of shadows did not reach, especially in the dead of night.

Under the curtain of a cold, heavy rain shower, letting its gentle yet unforgiving chill soak through her skin, she walked in the dim of the alley.

The cacophony of falling raindrops muted her thoughts, dulling her mind to the harshness of this weather. Dulling her skin to the freezing cold air. To the bitterness in her heart.

Alone and miserable was she, drenched in rain, her chasm in her emotions unfathomable, her pain insufferable. Numb was her wet skin, by these dark emotions that had anesthetized her capacity for feeling.

Let the rain come. Let the darkness envelop her in its grip. For sorrow was her friend, and despair her only companion. Let them swallow her in their abyss, where she can find comfort from this wretched misery.

Mai…

Within the hazy depths of her vision, she saw the ghostly shape a young woman, dressed in white, with her mass of long maroon hair behind her. Like an angel of death, slowly, it floated nearer and nearer.

Mai…

An angel of death calling out her name, here to deliver her from the hell that was her confused heart, from the mass of twisted emotions that strangled her soul, from this life that held nothing else from her.

“Mai?”

But death the ghost was not. Only the sweet voice of an angel. A most familiar angel.

Her trembling lips found the strength to call out its name…

“… Gwen?”

… and in return, were the arms that wrapped around her suddenly, and pulled her close into the angel’s embrace, as that sweet voice spoke to her once more.

“Mai, it’s alright now, I’m here.”

Under the cold rain and the evening darkness… in the tender arms and the caring warmth of a dearest friend, Mai Enna finally cried.

I must say that I love this spell - attacks that require the user to pay some "price" in exchange for their massive power appeal to me very greatly. The only thing is that I just can't see Hayate attempting something like this for some reason. But it is an amazing spell imo.

Specialization: None - he can attack with immense effectiveness from any side of the magical spectrum. He's better at close combat than at long-range attacks, but does well in any of them.

Looks: Rainharst has shoulder-length black hair, with dark grey eyes. Those eyes are legendary in Belkan territories, described as "pools as deep as space, oceans as dark as the night, galaxies profound as existence". He is tall, about 67 inches in height, and weighing about 180 lbs. He has long, almost elfine ears, and a sharp face. He usually wears some combination of black, white, and green, usually a shirt, vest and trousers. He has a very dignified look to him, as befitting his position.

Device: The Nachtgeist - a Lost Logia device, the same as the Book of Darkness. It was salvaged from the destruction of Al Hazard long ago when it was destroyed, but was found to be unusable. Rather than forging his own intelligent device, as part of his kingdom's training, he asked and recieved permission to attempt to repair the Nachtgeist. To the suprise of all, he was successful at restoring it - it was a task not only considered impossible, but because of the vast amount of magical energy in the device, suicidal.

When Nachtgeist speaks, it speaks in a calm, clear male voice.

This is a firing spell similar to Divine Buster or Plasma Blade; relatively straightforward, he switches to firing mode and discharges. It has incredible range however, due to its incredible accuracy and magical targeting system.

Blitzstreik (Lightning Strike)

An attack in which he attacks his opponent at high speed and slashes at them multiple times in quick succession. The bread and butter of his offensive assault.

Alternate Modes:

Blitz Mode:

As the name implies, it emphasizes speed. Similar to Fate's Sonic Form, he removes his armor and focuses himself on speed and power, but loses a signficiant amount of defense, both against physical and magical attacks, so much so that even when they do not connect with him directly he can still be damaged by a strong magical attack. He can actually manipulate air in such a manner as to damage an opponent, or at least disorient them.

Panzer Mode:

Again as the name implies, it emphasizes defense, at the cost of speed and agility. However, the heavier armor can take a lot of hits before breaking.

Feuert Mode (Firing Mode)

This is the firing mode for Nachtgeist, he usually activates this after a physical exchange. Not his preferred means of combat, but he is a deadly sniper nevertheless.


General Power Level:

While his array of abilities is truly impressive, he's a "jack-of-all-trades" but a master of only one. He's unmatched in close combat, but not as good in other areas of battle.

In his kingdom, he has the rank of "Lord" which is roughly equivalent to SS in the Midchildan system; however, he is believed to slightly exceed the capabilities of the strongest SS class mages.

Still working on the backstory and attacks, as well as the other characters I have in mind. I'm actually sort of rushing to get something posted, so sorry for the incompleteness.

However, tshouryuu here just nitpicked your character cleanly, so I won't go into that here. However, I agree that you character it H4XX, at least borderline, and that he requires toning down a bit

Morning arrived.

Lazily Yutaro opened his eyes and stared into the empty ceiling. His mind was blank, his body was exhausted and his soul was empty. The night before, he had been indulged in Galatea’s welcoming party at the Belkan Knights’ Schnee Town branch, and he had been performing for the School representative in front of everybody. Now alone in his apartment, he was lying inside his bedroom with nothing to plan for the day, and he was very dead tired at the moment.

“That’s right,” he murmured. “Aura and Freya are going to start their test today. I wonder how they’re doing now.” He closed his eyes as he was still sleepy and in the need to doze off. “I think I’ll call my buddies later today…”

He felt a pair of hands resting upon his chest.

“Holy crap! I didn’t remember sleeping with someone!”

To make matters even more complicated, he was lying down on the futon, together and alone with two mysterious persons. For a while he was telling his subconscious he was having a dream, and was convinced when he turned to the right. “Oh, it’s just a girl…” he murmured and resumed his sleep.

His eyes stormed wide open.

“A GIRL????”

He looked back at the girl to his left. And then to the girl to his right. He could not have been anymore correct, because he was sandwiched between Aura and Freya!

What’s worse, the twin sisters were donning nothing more than togas!

“What the hell are they doing here?!!!”

The Gemini Sisters stirred, moved closer so their mouth was an inch from his head, and wrapped their arms about his body. “Yutaro, it’s still early…” Freya moaned, her warm breath making him tingle.

“Oneechan, can I take Yutaro to the bathroom…?” Aura murmured and brushed her lips on his neck.

“Please… please tell me this cannot be real!” He resisted, and proved to be fatal when the girls clenched their hands on his pyjama. He cringed when they unconsciously bit their earlobes, and tried fleeing the situation only to stare into the Gemini Sisters’ droopy eyes. “Aura? Freya?”

And they were dreamily smiling.

“Yutaro…”

The girls kissed his face. It lasted only for a few seconds, and when it did they disengaged and caressed his cheeks, giggling together.

“Ohayo, Yutaro…”

(Outside the door, Poseidon was grinning to an imaginary audience. With its left paw holding the camera, the white tiger sported a thumb’s up. “Objective complete. Operation Morning Love II is a success,” it declared. “Mission accomplished.”)

“OH GOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Ohayo, Oneesama,” Freya greeted.

“Gala-nee, ohayo,” Aura said.

Galatea and Sao smiled. “Good morning, Freya, Aura,” Galatea replied.

“Good morning, Master Aura. Good Morning, Master Freya,” Sao greeted.

“Ohayo, Sao-chan,” the sisters replied with a smile.

“Are both of you ready?” Galatea asked.

The Gemini Sisters nodded. “Yes, we are.”

“Well, shall we get going? I believe we should begin our test at the headquarters,” Galatea said.

“Yes, please,” the Gemini Sisters answered.

Galatea turned to Yutaro. “What’s the matter, Wakamoto Yutaro?” she asked.

Yutaro had to cry. “I had a nightmare last night…” he sobbed. “It was the worst nightmare in my whole life. Why it had to be me?”

“Hmm…” Galatea took her time to think of the file she had been carrying along. “Phantom 21 always experienced nightmares…” she pondered and wrote on the notepad. “I wonder if Wakamoto Yutaro shares some of the Lost Candidate’s…”

“Now, now, Galatea,” Poseidon spoke as it appeared next to her. “I’m sure you don’t mind leaving Yutaro and his personal matters alone, do you?”

“Unfortunately, I can’t,” Galatea spoke and wrote down something on the notepad. “On related note, Poseidon, do you know that you voluntarily exposed your identity to the people while acting in such… a hideous way?”

Poseidon twitched. “But I didn’t reveal my Full Drive form, did I?” the white tiger tried reasoning with Galatea.

“If that is the case, then I shall assign you to this test as well,” Galatea said.

Poseidon stooped its head in defeat. “I have lost…”

Yutaro became more depressed. As if being greeted by the toga-donning Gemini Sisters in the morning was not enough, being KISSED by the twin sisters together was the most outrageous experience he had ever faced. Not only that, he already felt the murderous intents of several Belkan knights who happened to live in the same building as they walked past him.

“What’s the matter, Yutaro?”

Yutaro suddenly turned all cheerful. “Ah, nothing! Nothing! Just thinking of my past, present and future,” he answered Freya’s question. “Right, Poseidon?” The white tiger laughed as well and nodded in frantic way.

Freya was not satisfied. “Are you really sure? You look like you have sickness or something.”

“Sickness? What is that? Is it delicious?” Yutaro replied and continued laughing in idiotic manners.

“Oneechan, I think it’s because he isn’t ready for being shared,” naughtily Aura suggested.

Freya giggled. “I think you’re right,” she said and seized Yutaro’s right arm, while Aura took his left arm. “Let’s have our breakfast, Yutaro. We’ll pay.”

“Just say whatever you want, and we’ll prepare it for you,” Aura added.

“Is it alright?” the twin sisters asked.

“God, please help me…” Yutaro mumbled in tears.

“Yutaro is a lucky yaro…” the knights cursed. “He is a HAPPY YARO…”

“By the way, Poseidon,” Galatea said.

“Yes, Galatea?”

“Did you take their pictures?”

The white tiger grinned. “I thought you wouldn’t ask,” Poseidon murmured and handed over the camera. Galatea took the camera and browsed through the picture folder with Sao. “What do you think?”

“Master Yutaro looks satisfied in the picture,” Sao said as they came across the picture of the terrified Yutaro sandwiched by the toga-donning Gemini Sisters. “And the twins look very happy sharing their hugging pillow, aren’t they?”

Galatea chuckled. “Tell me more about this… ‘Sharing is Caring’ thing.”

“As you wish, Galatea,” Poseidon nodded.

“Yutaro, say ‘AA’!”

Lazily the boy obliged and opened his mouth. The Gemini Sisters giggled and spoon-fed him with honey cake. The girls were sweetly smiling as Yutaro finished the cake, and were now asking him to be fed with grapes. Around them, the knights were fuming in jealousy at Yutaro’s luck and were murmuring in Belkan German as they planned to get rid of the Street Performer. Yutaro was very alert of the situation but was helpless as he was continually pleaded by the sisters to finish the meal for them.

Galatea took the time from their visit to the café to review her missions. (Sitting next to her, Sao was preparing the tea for her Master, not noticing how long the customers were ogling her in admiration.) Apart from investigating Phantom 21 and conducting the Inspector Test, she was also asked by the Nobles to investigate a recently discovered Belkanite trafficking route near Belka/Mid-Childa border. She had realized the potency of the crystal as a youth-enhancing agent, and was concerned of its popularity in black markets. She was thinking to seek for help from the Belkan Knights regarding the matter.

“Gala-sama!”

She turned around and saw several knights kneeling before her. “Gentlemen, how surprising to see you again this morning,” she said.

“It is our pleasure to see you in all your beauty, Gala-sama,” the knights said. “What can we do for you today?”

“Well, for one thing, I’d like to know you better,” Galatea answered and took the teacup from Sao’s hand. “Thank you, Sao.”

“You’re very much welcome, Master,” Sao replied with a smile that made everyone infatuated.

“As you wish.” The group of five knights gathered up and saluted Galatea in formal Belkan Knighthood fashion. “I am Kurosawa Shoji,” the knight began. “And these are my comrades: Millar Richardson, Victor Davenport, Jonathan Hamilton and Samuel Fischer.”

The quartet knelt again. “We are the Knights of Yellow Rose. Pleased to meet you, Gala-sama.”

“Pleased to meet you, too, gentlemen,” Galatea greeted.

“Permission to speak, Mistress Gala,” Hamilton said.

“Yes. You may speak,” Galatea said and sipped the tea.

“Do you wear black today?”

Galatea spat the tea. “What… what in the name of the School is that question for?” Sao giggled at the reaction and poured another cup of tea.

The knights gathered up, talked to each other and returned to kneel before Galatea. “It’s nothing very important. But we have read from Terran magazine that gorgeous woman always wears black,” Hamilton said in blatant formality.

“And we understand that black symbolizes a woman’s deepest desire for love,” Richardson continued. “Is that correct, Mistress Gala?”

The Gemini Sisters giggled in devious way. “Oneesama always wears black, you know,” Freya told Aura. “In fact, she looks sexier in black.”

“True, true,” Aura agreed. “Gala-nee loves black. She isn’t the Black Witch for nothing.”

Sao nodded as well. “It is true that Master Galatea loves collecting black attires,” she said and gave Galatea the teacup, “and her favourite has to be the special night gown she got from her instructor on her 17th birthday.”

The rest of the knights bled their nose at the thought of Galatea showing off her beauty in the black gown. “Gala-nee in black…” they murmured and tossed many thumbs up at Galatea. “WE APPROVE!”

Yutaro blinked in confusion. “What are you girls talking of?”

The Gemini Sisters put their fingers on their lips. “That is a SE-C-RET.”

Galatea blushed in embarrassment at Sao and her twin sisters’ leg-pulling statements. Well, I…” She pretended she did not hear the question and continued drinking the tea. “Anyway, I am looking for help to investigate the illegal Belkanite trafficking. Would anyone of you be pleased to help?” she spoke.

“Of course,” Shoji replied. “For you, Gala-sama, we will do anything for you.”

Just then Matilda and Keiko arrived at Hansel Café. They met up with Yutaro who was still asking the Gemini Sisters on what they had been talking of about ‘black attires’. “Yutaro, Frieda wants to meet you at the headquarters this afternoon. Are you free?” Matilda said.

“Is it about the Christmas gathering?” Yutaro asked. “That’s good, because I have several things to discuss with her.”

The knights left their tables. Without any warning, they marched towards Yutaro and, ignoring the Gemini Sisters and their senior-ranked female officers, caught the boy and strangled him with ropes. Carrying the heavily shackled boy out of the café, they headed to the nearby lake and lifted him high into the air, not taking attention of everybody else who had already left the café.

“Lucky bastard must be exterminated for greater good,” they hymned in unison.

“Guys? Guys! What is going on?!” Yutaro shouted and tried untying the ropes with great difficulty. “What did I do that you’re doing this to me?”

“Happy bastard must be sacrificed for the sake of mankind,” the knights continued.

“Sacrifice? No way! Let go off me!” Yutaro frantically writhed beneath the ropes and chains, even as the knights were aiming him at the centre of the lake. “Somebody help!”

The knights tossed Yutaro into the lake. “Say hello to the lake monster down there!”

The Knights of Yellow Rose were appalled. “Idiot! What the hell are you doing?!” Shoji screamed at the knights.

“Crap! I forgot Yutaro can’t swim!” Matilda gasped.

“Yutaro!” Freya and Aura cried out.

“What is this act of hostility?” Keiko asked and glanced at the knights. “What do you think you’re doing to Yutaro-kun? You shouldn’t treat him with prejudice just because you’re angry with him,” she said in soft (but dissatisfied) voice.

The knights shivered in fear. “Keiko-chan is going to be angry…” they whimpered and shrank in size due to the intimidating voice of Keiko’s words.

“Now apologize,” Keiko said and stared at the knights in melancholic gaze.

The knights hugged each other and cried in fear. “Uuu… we’re very sorry…”

Freya frowned. “Can’t be forgiven…” she murmured and clenched a fist. “This cannot be forgiven…”

She left the crowd. “Freya! Where are you going?!” Galatea shouted and was later horrified when Freya jumped into the lake. “Freya! Come back here!”

“Oneechan!” Aura screamed.

Yutaro was descending to the lake floor. He had managed to undo the ropes around his arms but was facing difficulty reaching for the steel ball that was tied to his legs. It was a race against time, and he was running out of air.

He finally released the steel ball, but was suddenly drowned when water rushed into his windpipe. “I can’t die here yet!” he choked and tried swimming to the surface. He suddenly crammed and was sinking into the deep. “Damn it… somebody!”

He felt his left arm seized. He looked up, and saw Freya above him, suspended in the watery volume as she steadily kept him from sinking. “Freya… thank God…”

The girl pulled her towards him.

“I’m sorry, Yutaro…”

She pressed her lips against his. It was hard, deep and sealed as she transferred some of the air into his lungs, but for Yutaro it was yet another shocking experience that sent his world careening. He could do nothing but stay still and let Freya deepen the kiss.

The kiss disengaged. Yutaro and Freya stared into each other. He was startled, not only because the Gemini Sister had stolen his first kiss, but also because he saw pointed ears emerging from her golden hair.

And there was a look of gladness from her eyes.

“Freya?”

He did not know what happened after that, because the next thing he knew was that he was already out of the water, held tightly between Freya’s arms as they were hovering above the lake.

“Are you alright, Yutaro?”

He looked up at Freya. He was startled; spreading before him was a pair of dark blue wings, protruding out of the girl’s back, blocking the sunlight.

And the girl was smiling to him.

“Just… who are you?”

He blacked out.

So?

next stop: The Family Arrives. Expect more madness and this....

Hayate's darkest creation, the Freisch�tz is a projectile of the purest malice that will hit without fail any target she wishes. Nothing can defend from it, nor could it be fooled by illusions and decoys. Only sheer luck (lots of it) can prevent a direct hit.

As Hayate intones the aria, waves of darkness flow from her and converge into a black orb of concentrated negativity. At the very moment she commands it to fly, the Freisch�tz would have already blown through the heart of the victim (vital core for those without a heart), regardless of distance and protective measures. The effect is instant; no amount of agility can evade it. Even if the Freisch�tz somehow misses the heart, it can still deal substantial damage and pain if it hits any part of the body, and corrodes the body and soul with a debilitating curse.

The Freisch�tz is not without its faults. It can only be used against animated (but not necessarily living) beings. Every time Hayate uses it, intense pain (as if she has been pierced by thousands of white-hot needles) runs all over her body. At the same time, a faint black snake-like tattoo will slowly grow all over her body, darkening and spreading over her body with every shot. The tattoo and the accompanying torment (physically and mentally) will remain with her until she removes it with a tedious purification ritual, after which she will be unable to use the Freisch�tz for at least one moon cycle. Six is the maximum number of shots allowed if the curse tattoo is not removed. The seventh shot will not be under her control, hitting (and killing) anything at random (including herself). If she is not killed by the seventh shot, the curse will then activate and claim her life as payment, her soul lost in oblivion forever.

I must say that I love this spell - attacks that require the user to pay some "price" in exchange for their massive power appeal to me very greatly. The only thing is that I just can't see Hayate attempting something like this for some reason. But it is an amazing spell imo.

Interestingly, one of my characters is strongly connected to Hayate and the Book of Darkness, and he has a move that works in a similar fashion.

Combat Style: Ancient Belkan, though has some Midchildan refinements; he however considers Midchildan magic beneath him and only useful as a supplement to Belkan magic.

Specialization: None - he can attack with immense effectiveness from any side of the magical spectrum. He's better at close combat than at long-range attacks, but does well in any of them.

Looks: Rainharst has shoulder-length black hair, with dark grey eyes. Those eyes are legendary in Belkan territories, described as "pools as deep as space, oceans as dark as the night, galaxies profound as existence". He is tall, about 67 inches in height, and weighing about 180 lbs. He has long, almost elfine ears, and a sharp face. He usually wears some combination of black, white, and green, usually a shirt, vest and trousers. He has a very dignified look to him, as befitting his position.

Device: The Nachtgeist - a Lost Logia device, the same as the Book of Darkness. It was salvaged from the destruction of Al Hazard long ago when it was destroyed, but was found to be unusable. Rather than forging his own intelligent device, as part of his kingdom's training, he asked and recieved permission to attempt to repair the Nachtgeist. To the suprise of all, he was successful at restoring it - it was a task not only considered impossible, but because of the vast amount of magical energy in the device, suicidal.

When Nachtgeist speaks, it speaks in a calm, clear male voice.

This is a firing spell similar to Divine Buster or Plasma Blade; relatively straightforward, he switches to firing mode and discharges. It has incredible range however, due to its incredible accuracy and magical targeting system.

Blitzstreik (Lightning Strike)

An attack in which he attacks his opponent at high speed and slashes at them multiple times in quick succession. The bread and butter of his offensive assault.

Alternate Modes:

Blitz Mode:

As the name implies, it emphasizes speed. Similar to Fate's Sonic Form, he removes his armor and focuses himself on speed and power, but loses a signficiant amount of defense, both against physical and magical attacks, so much so that even when they do not connect with him directly he can still be damaged by a strong magical attack. He can actually manipulate air in such a manner as to damage an opponent, or at least disorient them.

Panzer Mode:

Again as the name implies, it emphasizes defense, at the cost of speed and agility. However, the heavier armor can take a lot of hits before breaking.

Feuert Mode (Firing Mode)

This is the firing mode for Nachtgeist, he usually activates this after a physical exchange. Not his preferred means of combat, but he is a deadly sniper nevertheless.


General Power Level:

While his array of abilities is truly impressive, he's a "jack-of-all-trades" but a master of only one. He's unmatched in close combat, but not as good in other areas of battle.

In his kingdom, he has the rank of "Lord" which is roughly equivalent to SS in the Midchildan system; however, he is believed to slightly exceed the capabilities of the strongest SS class mages.

Still working on the backstory and attacks, as well as the other characters I have in mind. I'm actually sort of rushing to get something posted, so sorry for the incompleteness.

“I personally do not know Mai Enna. But I know that she is a unique mage with lots of potential, talented in the field of Midchildan Chaos Magic, a rarest among the rare. And from your own recommendations I can see she’s a truly exceptional mage to have passed your standards.”

Fate watched as Teana bowed her head, a melancholic expression filled with much regret.

“We are both the same age, and we’re both striving to reach the position of Enforcers in the future. But unlike me, Mai was born with talent and power, things I worked so hard to attain. She was born with greatness, and I was not.

So it pains me to know that someone like her, could make such a common mistake…”

The girl’s voice nearly broke.

“… A mistake like mine.”

That mistake, and Fate had personally witnessed it nearly two years ago, in a mock battle between this girl Teana, her teammate and closest friend Subaru, and their instructor...

Fate’s closest friend, and soulmate, to whom she owed her very life and her very existence to… Nanoha Takamachi.

“No Teana, it’s not your mistake. It’s our mistake. All of us.”

A mistake of youth. If only it could be called that. And yet there are people who would still do it even if they knew the consequences, the results.

Because in their eyes, it had been the right thing to do.

Nanoha, in her quest to serve, her need to be there for those who needed her, and her sacred duty. Who was unknowingly destroying herself with her own magic, until that incident that left her helpless and cripple for nearly a year…

Teana, whose desire to prove her brother’s worth, in a past ridden with humiliation, doubt and shame, who had jeopardized and endangered Nanoha’s life with her reckless actions.

Even herself, whose nearly sacrificed her entire life just for the sake of redemption, before her eyes were opened to the worth of her own existence, to both herself, and for the ones who cared.

And now… Another soul was treading down the same path they had walked on, a path that will only lead them to their destruction…

Unless…

“I understand now, you three. “

With her elbows on the table Fate clasped both her trembling hands together and rested her forehead on her raised hands. She breathed deep, letting the air fill her lungs, the air which carried the determination of the three people in front of her, their immutable concern over the one they would pass judgment on today.

Her voice carried that determination.

“Smith, Wesson… if I do this, you must understand the responsibility that will be placed on you after this. And the consequences of this decision.”

Wesson nodded in reply. “We’ve thought this through, and we understand completely.”

“And…” Teana voiced out, with a hint of concern, her poise returning. “Even if we say we’re doing the right thing for her, she’ll hate us for this.”

The two brothers could only bow their heads to her words. And Smith’s voice carried only his sadness.

“No Teana. She’ll hate ME for it, for this decision was my idea, and she’ll know this.

It is better I suffer her hatred now, than suffer her meaningless death later.”

Fate raised her head to look at them.

“Are you sure this is the only way?”

Smith nodded slowly. “She can be a very stubborn girl.

There is no other way.”

Their conviction was sealed. The reasons had been revealed. And they all understood what needed to be done.

“Very well...”

“...Very well then.”

And only minutes after those words were spoken, Teana had left… and Mai had entered the room. A young girl expecting the good news that she had gotten wind of beforehand. A girl filled with hopes and dreams, somewhat naïve, yet justified. For she had earned that right to those hopes and those dreams with her own efforts, her will, her strength.

But it was not enough.

For the sake of those hopes, and for the sake of her wishes, as much as it pained them to do so....

They will have to be crushed.

And now, in the wake of Mai’s abrupt enraged departure, with the bitter taste of her own decision still fresh in her lips, Fate stood up from her chair, and turned to watch the dim, swirling colors of inter-dimensional space outside her window, gazing with her eyes concerned.

“I’m sorry Mai.. but please understand.”

Everpresent, there was no place that the darkness of shadows did not reach, especially in the dead of night.

Under the curtain of a cold, heavy rain shower, letting its gentle yet unforgiving chill soak through her skin, she walked in the dim of the alley.

The cacophony of falling raindrops muted her thoughts, dulling her mind to the harshness of this weather. Dulling her skin to the freezing cold air. To the bitterness in her heart.

Within the hazy depths of her vision, she saw the ghostly shape a young woman, dressed in white, with her mass of long maroon hair behind her. Like an angel of death, slowly, it floated nearer and nearer.

An angel of death calling out her name, here to deliver her from the hell that was her confused heart, from the mass of twisted emotions that strangled her soul, from this life that held nothing else from her.

“Mai?”

But death the ghost was not. Only the sweet voice of an angel. A most familiar angel.

Her trembling lips found the strength to call out its name…

“… Gwen?”

… and in return, were the arms that wrapped around her suddenly, and pulled her close into the angel’s embrace, as that sweet voice spoke to her once more.

“Mai, it’s alright now, I’m here.”

Under the cold rain and the evening darkness… in the tender arms and the caring warmth of a dearest friend, Mai Enna finally cried.

Mai's having it rough no doubts about it but the LineBackers don't have it easy either to deciding coming down on her just to protect her.

And of course, the game can't go without the 'older woman' type of character, the kind, easy-going 'teacher' in the music class

“I am afraid it is true. Examinee Mai Enna, I, Fate Testarossa Harlaown, based on my assessment of your abilities, and evaluation of your aptitude by Private First Class Remington Smith and Private First Class Colt Wesson…”

She could not believe what she was hearing from this woman's words. It can’t be.

“Your performance in the Enforcer Exam has been deemed inadequate. You are hereby required to undergo six additional months of advanced combat training. Only after completion will you be able to retake the exam to assess your improvement.”

These were not the words she had wanted to hear. Not these unfavorable words. No, this was not happening.

“Any questions?”

Mai had but one. This one question, a query most important to her. Right now, within the swirling mass of questions bristling in her abject confusion, only one issue rose above them all. There was nothing else more relevant.

“…Doushite?”

With her soft, restrained voice she hoped for an answer. An explanation. A reason to this madness.

She begged for it. And she watched the three other people in the room with her steely, yet pleading eyes, waiting for a response.

“Why?”

She glowered. Remington Smith. He can give her the answer she sought, to tell her what she needed to hear. It had to be him. This is all a mistake right?

Isn’t that right?

So why? Why was she set back from her advancement? Why, after a year’s worth of intensive training in the span of the last eighteen months? Why, after all the sweat that was shed, the blood that was bled, the effort that was spent?

Why was it not enough?

“Because… "

Nothing prepared her for his words.

"I said so.”

Impenetrable Silence.

Such an impenetrable silence.

That was all that proceeded his cold words, and his calm unwavering voice. His sharp voice that pierced her then fragile heart, mercilessly shattering it into the abyss of uncertainty and despair.

For the first time since so many years ago…

She felt the sting of unbearable pain.

And from the wound in her heart, bled only her venom-laced misery.

"… sou ka.

Remi no baka."

And as the ominous glowing circle of Chaos formed on her feet, from the cracks in her inflexible steel mask of indifference, broke through her indomitable sorrow.

And her rage.

“REMI NO BAKA!!!!!”

And leaving the wake of these words behind, she was gone.

Fate T. Harlaown hung this sober question in the air, burying her head in her hands.

“We’ll look for her Sir. Finding Mai will be easy enough.” Wesson replied with restrained certainty. “But…”

“Dealing with her…” Smith continued, his voice laced with overt concern. “… is a completely different matter.” He finished, as both of them headed for the door.

Their superior officer could only watch as she sighed heavily.

“I trust the both of you to resolve this matter with her.”

The two Linebackers turned to face her, determination in their faces, their two resolute voices as one.

“Of course we will.

In the vacuum of emotions that hung in the air, Fate Testarossa Harlaown tried to ease herself back in her desk chair, wanting to ease the ill-feeling permeating in the air, the ephemeral residue of a scorned soul.

She could not.

Sighing heavily only relieved her of the tension in her body, but her thoughts still processed to make sense of the events today.

“It was our decision.”

Yes. It was their decision, she convinced herself in her soliloquy. It was the conclusion of the people who had been with the young girl that day, who had seen her every move, her every action. And their collective judgment gave them reason to believe the girl was lacking. Lacking in the necessary aptitude, skill, and ability to pass the standards set by the TSAB.

Yes, their decision was correct.

“Our decision. Ours…”

She sighed once again. For only minutes before, she had thought otherwise…

“Private Smith?”

She had asked the spaced out Clerk in front of her, minutes before the maelstrom. Her final report was nearly finished, and the two “Linebackers” as Private First Class Remington Smith, and Private First Class Colt Wesson were collectively referred to, was poring over them. They had to, as their responsibility to the subject of the papers, the young examinee mage, and their female charge Mai Enna.

They had to, but both were somehow inattentive of their task. Wesson sat in the office’s long, brown straight couch, seemingly flipping the pages of the report like flipping was the activity. And Smith, who sat in the chair in front of her across the desk, was equally bored, more like looking at the report for the sake of looking rather than reading.

She could’ve excused them of seniority over the abilities of the examinee – after all, they had known Mai far better than she had, despite meeting her in about the same time roughly 5 and a half years ago.

But… her intuition told her that these two were thinking about more than these reports. Beyond these reports. Both lost in musing over what seemed to be a most pressing thought.

It bothered her greatly.

For, as the head examiner personally who personally oversaw Mai’s exam from beginning to completion, who was the Enforcer who traded blows with the young girl, who had received live magical attacks and spells from the girl and retaliated in return, with the greatest possibility of injury to both of them; She was in the best position to assess the girl’s skills, to evaluate her abilities, measure her composure, her knowledge.

And, asides from one…minor incident, she had found the girl’s overall display most excellent.

Which is why she wondered why she wasn’t the one performing such pondering, the same level as her two guardians in this room were performing.

She had to know.

“Private Smith, Private Wesson. What’s wrong?”

A hand slammed down loud on her desk no sooner had she asked. Smith slowly threw the report he held with his right hand unto the table’s surface, with a most heavy sigh and a determined gaze. Similarly, Wesson had laid his copy on the glass coffee table.

The former spoke first, his tone polite, yet with a solid edge.

“Enforcer Harlaown sir, me and my brother feel that Mai shouldn’t be allowed to pass this exam.”

This was a joke right?

“Smith, I’ve already passed Mai based on my judgment, and I’ve already told her of this. Surely you kid.”

Unfortunately, Wesson also revealed his thoughts.

“Smith’s correct. Mai cannot be allowed to pass this exam”

Fate was visibly incredulous. It was unbelievable. To think that these two could say something like that…

“Smith, Wesson, what is the meaning of this?” she asked them, the confusion and disapproval in her voice increasingly pronounced. The two normally happy-go-lucky Backers clearly meant business.

Smith sat up straight, then turned to face her.

“It mean’s we disagree with your result, which you made despite what just happened back there!”

“You mean Mai’s illusion attack?”

“Exactly.”

Truth be told, recalling that event had made… no, still made Fate shiver, those crimson eyes, glaring at the depths of her soul. That indescribably feeling of dread… She could not remember what she had seen then, what Mai had made her see.

But her body could never forget, and at that instant when she tried to recall that memory, cold sweat trickled down her forehead, and her hands could not stop trembling.

She knew she had been horrified beyond description.

But she still couldn’t understand.

“I don’t understand. According to our intelligence, Mai’s illusion spells are part of her intrinsic abilities as a mage, and there are no limitations on the use of such spells in the exam. Mai had used them to her advantage during the final moments of the individual combat exa-“

“And you would’ve been a nervous wreck now had we not saved you.”

Smith’s interjection stopped Fate in her tracks. He was right.

Had the Linebackers not quickly intervened in the battle like they had, the illusion would’ve gone to full effect, and she would’ve been in even worse shape now.

But…

“It was a decision she made on her part, as an examinee willing to do what it took to defeat me. And as a previously known and disclosed ability, she can’t be considered cheating. It’s my own fault as her opponent that I let my guard down. Tell me the truth now you two, what’s going on?”

The brother’s sober expression was something she didn’t expect.

“Ms. Fate… we’d like you to understand.” Smith spoke up, his features softening, almost smiling about a happy thought.

“Mai… she’s a very special girl. No matter what trouble she caused us both, even if she very frequently puts us more times in the infirmary than any enemy we face out in the field, Mai is, and always will be, someone that both me and my brother care about a lot.”

Wesson joined in. “No matter what we may be to everyone else, we are still Mai’s guardians and instructors. Believe us when we say that there’s nothing we want better than to see her reach her goals with her own hands, and that nothing would make us prouder than to see her pass this exam. But…”

“She… “ Smith picked up on Wesson’s more somber tone. “She broke a promise. A promise between the three of us.”

“A promise?” Fate asked, curious.

“A promise to restrain herself. We had asked her not to use her illusions at any point in the exam, for her very own sake.”

“Why would you ask her to do that… unless…”

Smith’s last words triggered an insight into their intentions. And at that moment Fate finally saw a glimpse of what they were trying to say.

“It’s dangerous isn’t it?”

Wesson nodded in a sad reply. “Glock neglected to add it into the intel, but Chaos Illusion Spells also take a toll on Mai’s body when they are used, and unlike most of her spells these illusions degrade her both physically, mentally and psychologically. Each time she uses illusions, her own brain is exposed to unusually higher levels of Dark Chaos energy, and extended periods of use could potentially destroy her mind.”

“And that time…” Smith continued, a much sadder expression now. “When she assaulted you with her spell… she was using a more powerful spell than usual, thus why you still feel the effects even if you don’t remember anything.”

Fate saw Smith clench his fists, his anger slowly simmering. “Had it gone much longer, she could’ve killed the both of you. At the cost of her own life she was that desperate to win! To defeat you!!

In a damn Enforcer Exam!!!”

It hit her right then. She understood now. Their intentions for their crazy proposal.

Fate understood what the two brothers felt. The worry, their anxiety, and their concern for a person they cared for. She knew all too well.

“Despite these Linebackers, I do agree.”

All three in the room looked to the new female arrival by the door. As if on cue, here was another person who could understand the delicate issue at hand.

“Teana.”

The young Enforcer-in-training walked over to the desk, reports in hand, with a reminiscent look on her face.

“I’m sorry to have eavesdropped on your conversation, but I have to agree with these Linebackers. She shouldn't be allowed to pass.”

She hugged the reports she held in her hands tightly.

“I personally do not know Mai Enna. But I know that she is a unique mage with lots of potential, talented in the field of Midchildan Chaos Magic, a rarest among the rare. And from your own recommendations I can see she’s a truly exceptional mage to have passed your standards.”

Fate watched as Teana bowed her head, a melancholic expression filled with much regret.

“We are both the same age, and we’re both striving to reach the position of Enforcers in the future. But unlike me, Mai was born with talent and power, things I worked so hard to attain. She was born with greatness, and I was not.

So it pains me to know that someone like her, could make such a common mistake…”

The girl’s voice nearly broke.

“… A mistake like mine.”

That mistake, and Fate had personally witnessed it nearly two years ago, in a mock battle between this girl Teana, her teammate and closest friend Subaru, and their instructor...

Fate’s closest friend, and soulmate, to whom she owed her very life and her very existence to… Nanoha Takamachi.

“No Teana, it’s not your mistake. It’s our mistake. All of us.”

A mistake of youth. If only it could be called that. And yet there are people who would still do it even if they knew the consequences, the results.

Because in their eyes, it had been the right thing to do.

Nanoha, in her quest to serve, her need to be there for those who needed her, and her sacred duty. Who was unknowingly destroying herself with her own magic, until that incident that left her helpless and cripple for nearly a year…

Teana, whose desire to prove her brother’s worth, in a past ridden with humiliation, doubt and shame, who had jeopardized and endangered Nanoha’s life with her reckless actions.

Even herself, whose nearly sacrificed her entire life just for the sake of redemption, before her eyes were opened to the worth of her own existence, to both herself, and for the ones who cared.

And now… Another soul was treading down the same path they had walked on, a path that will only lead them to their destruction…

Unless…

“I understand now, you three. “

With her elbows on the table Fate clasped both her trembling hands together and rested her forehead on her raised hands. She breathed deep, letting the air fill her lungs, the air which carried the determination of the three people in front of her, their immutable concern over the one they would pass judgment on today.

Her voice carried that determination.

“Smith, Wesson… if I do this, you must understand the responsibility that will be placed on you after this. And the consequences of this decision.”

Wesson nodded in reply. “We’ve thought this through, and we understand completely.”

“And…” Teana voiced out, with a hint of concern, her poise returning. “Even if we say we’re doing the right thing for her, she’ll hate us for this.”

The two brothers could only bow their heads to her words. And Smith’s voice carried only his sadness.

“No Teana. She’ll hate ME for it, for this decision was my idea, and she’ll know this.

It is better I suffer her hatred now, than suffer her meaningless death later.”

Fate raised her head to look at them.

“Are you sure this is the only way?”

Smith nodded slowly. “She can be a very stubborn girl.

There is no other way.”

Their conviction was sealed. The reasons had been revealed. And they all understood what needed to be done.

“Very well...”

“...Very well then.”

And only minutes after those words were spoken, Teana had left… and Mai had entered the room. A young girl expecting the good news that she had gotten wind of beforehand. A girl filled with hopes and dreams, somewhat naïve, yet justified. For she had earned that right to those hopes and those dreams with her own efforts, her will, her strength.

But it was not enough.

For the sake of those hopes, and for the sake of her wishes, as much as it pained them to do so....

They will have to be crushed.

And now, in the wake of Mai’s abrupt enraged departure, with the bitter taste of her own decision still fresh in her lips, Fate stood up from her chair, and turned to watch the dim, swirling colors of inter-dimensional space outside her window, gazing with her eyes concerned.

“I’m sorry Mai.. but please understand.”

Anyone here familiar with the military drill? I mean, once they are alerted of a situation, what do they do, actually? In Nanohaverse, it seems like most of them are alerted via some cool communication screens and then they skip off for the site. Don't the Captains/Superiors need to be briefed by their Commander on the mission, the logistics provided, timing, army size, etc.? And are the armies always ready for such emergency situations (in terms of being able to go off the cuff when the signal comes)?

So it pains me to know that someone like her, could make such a common mistake…”

The girl’s voice nearly broke.

That mistake, and Fate had personally witnessed it nearly two years ago, in a mock battle between this girl Teana, her teammate and closest friend Subaru, and their instructor...

Fate’s closest friend, and soulmate, to whom she owed her very life and her very existence to… Nanoha Takamachi.

“No Teana, it’s not your mistake. It’s our mistake. All of us.”

A mistake of youth. If only it could be called that. And yet there are people who would still do it even if they knew the consequences, the results.

Because in their eyes, it had been the right thing to do.

Nanoha, in her quest to serve, her need to be there for those who needed her, and her sacred duty. Who was unknowingly destroying herself with her own magic, until that incident that left her helpless and cripple for nearly a year…

Teana, whose desire to prove her brother’s worth, in a past ridden with humiliation, doubt and shame, who had jeopardized and endangered Nanoha’s life with her reckless actions.

Even herself, whose nearly sacrificed her entire life just for the sake of redemption, before her eyes were opened to the worth of her own existence, to both herself, and for the ones who cared.

And now… Another soul was treading down the same path they had walked on, a path that will only lead them to their destruction…

Unless…

“I understand now, you three. “

With her elbows on the table Fate clasped both her trembling hands together and rested her forehead on her raised hands. She breathed deep, letting the air fill her lungs, the air which carried the determination of the three people in front of her, their immutable concern over the one they would pass judgment on today.

Her voice carried that determination.

“Smith, Wesson… if I do this, you must understand the responsibility that will be placed on you after this. And the consequences of this decision.”

Wesson nodded in reply. “We’ve thought this through, and we understand completely.”

“And…” Teana voiced out, with a hint of concern, her poise returning. “Even if we say we’re doing the right thing for her, she’ll hate us for this.”

The two brothers could only bow their heads to her words. And Smith’s voice carried only his sadness.

“No Teana. She’ll hate ME for it, for this decision was my idea, and she’ll know this.

It is better I suffer her hatred now, than suffer her meaningless death later.”

Fate raised her head to look at them.

“Are you sure this is the only way?”

Smith nodded slowly. “She can be a very stubborn girl.

There is no other way.”

Their conviction was sealed. The reasons had been revealed. And they all understood what needed to be done.

And only minutes after those words were spoken, Teana had left… and Mai had entered the room. A young girl expecting the good news that she had gotten wind of beforehand. A girl filled with hopes and dreams, somewhat naïve, yet justified. For she had earned that right to those hopes and those dreams with her own efforts, her will, her strength.

But it was not enough.

For the sake of those hopes, and for the sake of her wishes, as much as it pained them to do so....

They will have to be crushed.

And now, in the wake of Mai’s abrupt enraged departure, with the bitter taste of her own decision still fresh in her lips, Fate stood up from her chair, and turned to watch the dim, swirling colors of inter-dimensional space outside her window, gazing with her eyes concerned.

The cacophony of falling raindrops muted her thoughts, dulling her mind to the harshness of this weather. Dulling her skin to the freezing cold air. To the bitterness in her heart.

Alone and miserable was she, drenched in rain, her chasm in her emotions unfathomable, her pain insufferable. Numb was her wet skin, by these dark emotions that had anesthetized her capacity for feeling.

Let the rain come. Let the darkness envelop her in its grip. For sorrow was her friend, and despair her only companion. Let them swallow her in their abyss, where she can find comfort from this wretched misery.

Within the hazy depths of her vision, she saw the ghostly shape a young woman, dressed in white, with her mass of long maroon hair behind her. Like an angel of death, slowly, it floated nearer and nearer.

An angel of death calling out her name, here to deliver her from the hell that was her confused heart, from the mass of twisted emotions that strangled her soul, from this life that held nothing else from her.

But death the ghost was not. Only the sweet voice of an angel. A most familiar angel.

Her trembling lips found the strength to call out its name…

“… Gwen?”

… and in return, were the arms that wrapped around her suddenly, and pulled her close into the angel’s embrace, as that sweet voice spoke to her once more.

Under the cold rain and the evening darkness… in the tender arms and the caring warmth of a dearest friend, Mai Enna finally cried.

Hayate's SS mixed rank but her strength lies in her huge mana pool and nukes but she's not the best opponent in a one-on-one fight. Any decent fighter that can make it to CQC and leech onto her can probably take her down. Nanoha or Fate would definitely better as comparison for being S+ ranked air combatants.
