^I don't understand what you mean. This adaptation is expected if you ask me. its good but not that good for me... maybe its because of my lingering attachment to its prequel and maybe because its getting hard for me to collect the first series manga volumes. its getting rarer to be stocked in local bookstores.

Eey.. I am not too happy about this.
At least make it decent so the manga can get the attention it needs.

Already? Wow.

I quite like UQ Holder - I think it gets a lot of unjust criticism. It's classic Ken, really, for better or worse.

They did the Negima?! adaption which i adore. Plus why would MCA come to mind when they have made many other great adaptions. MCA's failure relied solely on the author doing most of the script work.

Anything but them and XEBEC.
Shaft didn't do any service to the franchise at all considering how they went completely whacky with ?!. The humor wasn't particularly fitting the franchise, and I can't even tell what they were smoking with the character changes.
Hell, even the mundus magicus arc adaptation was pretty flat, and the supposed concluding "movie" was badly handled (shortened to 40 min to boot).

It isn't as bad as XEBEC take, but I would definitely not expect anything good from Shaft with UQ holder, especially UQ holder is much more straightforward in term of shounen tropes.

Well like most people, i dont read the manga therefore idc about the source. If an anime is good on its own then its good. I actually found the series more fun than the faithful adaptions of the ova. But hey thats another argument about adaptions vs carbon copies.

I want to watch a UQ Holder with Shafts visual direction and VAs. I wouldnt mind XEBEC since they have changed a lot over the years and they could use another franchise.

And that's exactly my problem with ?!: what's the point of "adapting" an existing franchise and changing it completely, to the point that different design and character names would be ok? Sure the series itself isn't "bad", but this isn't an adaptation at all. It is more like an erratic spin off that just doesn't follow -any- of the original plotlines. That's why I can't even call ?! an adaptation as it is merely borrowing the name and characters of the franchise.

And again, aside of completely liberal "adaptation", the real problem is that shaft isn't exactly fitting for a run-the-mill shounen series. Still color shots and texts all over the screen aren't exactly working in this case, nor perspective switches all the time.

This just proves that you barely have seen much Shaft. Basically your telling me that Shaft would adapt UQ Holder the same way they adapted the monogatari series. You do realize they have a ton of other shows that have different artistic direction right?

Can they adapt straight forward a shounen? Yes any studio can, even a run in the mill studio with a good budget can hire staff to adapt it. Besides just because they havent adapted something like UQ Holder before doesnt mean they cant do a good job. I get the anti shaft bias people have. But its becoming a meme at this point because thats not all that they do.

If it isnt Shaft then I just pray it isnt one of those shounen heavy studios like Perriot.

Yeah they got different artistic direction, and yet they use common tropes mostly clipping and perpective switch (even series like Koufuku Graffiti wasn't exempt of that, although it wasn't disrupting). And no, I wasn't even thinking about Monogatari, but ?! and Mundus Magicus that got affected by this, although vastly less than monogatari obviously (and for the record, I've watched every shaft series starting from negima?! except Arakawa, Arashi, Vampire Bund and Soredemo).

And even with a different staff, very very few studio can pretend to be able to do any type of shows, and shaft is certainly not one of them. They have different teams for vastly different shows like Monogatari and Ef that have nothing in common, but I'm extremely sceptical they can do a properly paced shounen mostly due to the lack of record for that genre except... Mundus Magicus, which was average at best if you consider "shounen stuff", not even adaptation in mind.

And this is the same for some other studio. I for one would definitely be wary of, let's say Kyoani or Dogakobo, simply because they don't have any solid shounen series record either. Lots of studios don't exactly venture to other genres, not just because of comfort zone but mostly because they are more or less specialized and it would be awkward to have them elsewhere in some instances.

In fact, doing a proper shounen series isn't easy at all, because it has been done so many times that handling that kind of series badly just snow ball hard. The fact shounen genre is the most widespread makes if even more complicated to have them shine on screen.
So saying "any studio can adapt a straigh forward shounen" is a bit exaggerated in my books.

Studios like Bones and JC Staff would be way more fitting, regardless of the adaptation accuracy.

Shaft at least has nice quality but they always turn the original into their adaption which is annoying to me. The pacing, texture, white space are not very favourable.

If I have to choose between Shaft and JCS, I would go with JCS because I would rather watch the anime with normal flow in bitter.

As long they don't do that creepy 2D Background scroll i will try to be fine with it.

I suppose I'll have to wait to see how many episodes this is before deciding if this cane really be its ow thing, or it goes manga- style and turns into Negima Season 2. UQ Holder did have its own plot for a while, and then it became the actual sequel for pandering.

Completely agree here. Some people are still upset about how Negima ended and never gave it a chance. Force had the same problem.
