Rating: 7/10
Comments: Just as hilarious as last season. And a great episode about Nino's past has made me even more interested.

Name of Series: Fortune Arterial
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 3/10
Comments:Terribly cliche character interactions and the whole "Precious High School memories!" moral in the last episode made me gag.

Name of Series: Hakuouki Hekketsuroku
Episodes Watched: 2
Rating: 6/10
Comments: Nothing much to say since it's only been two episodes, except the fact that it's already looking much better than last season.

Name of Series: Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 6/10
Comments: If this is trying to illustrate how Dating Sim logic doesn't apply in the real world then it's failing spectacularly. It's still kinda funny though so I'm still interested.

Name of Series: Ore no Imouto
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 7/10
Comments: Wasn't impressed with the first episode and the scene where Kyousuke passionately defends his sister was a little hammy but otherwise, it's very funny and entertaining.

Name of Series: Otome Yokai Zakuro
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 6/10
Comments: It's okay I guess. It does seem a little interesting but it does have alot of mushy shoujo "Taste Like Diabetes" scenes that make me wanna gag. Which is odd because apparently it's a seinen, not a shoujo. Never would've guessed...

Name of Series: Shinrei Tantei Yakumo
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 5/10
Comments: Bland. It's all just so...bland.

Name of Series: Star Driver
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 6/10
Comments: It's all so FABULOUS. Definitely gets 10/10 in the style department. Can't say the same for substance, though. But I'm still interested.

Name of Series: Tegami Bachi Reverse
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 6/10
Comments: Gauche is the only thing keeping me interested to be honest, and he's not become part of the main story yet. Hopefully he will soon.

Name of Series: To Aru Majustu no Index
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 7/10
Comments: It was a great start but the last two episodes have left me a little underwhelmed. I'm being bogged down by lots of new plot elements and the comedy isn't the same. Too many lame Accidently Pervert moments.

Name of Series: Yosuga no Sora
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 4/10
Comments: I honestly don't know what the hell to make of this. If it's trying to mindfuck me, I can say it's succeded. Basically it looks like a poor man's Key story with possible incest (and that's not a good thing to me). Not to mention lots and lots of ecchi and outright porn.

8/10

The director and writer know exactly how to deal with the material, with a deliberate yet meticulous and well rounded hammyness. Fun protag in Takuto, great art.

The World God Only Knows
3 eps
8/10

Rating based primarily on manga interpetation. Not much has happened yet. If you like the manga you should like it, (I liked the manga). It's fluff but well handled. Appeal relies primarily on Keima and his silly logic. If there is an achillies heel, it's that the RL girls are on a whole just as sterotypical as those his game, lessening some of the impact. Still an entertaining concept, good seiyuu casting. Art is not Manglobe's best but above and beyond most.

Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge
4 eps
9/10

Show hasn't missed a beat. Great off kilter humor that is never repetitive. Many laugh out loud moments. Legitmately charming relationship between protags Nino and Recruit provides added flavor.

Ore no Imouto
3 eps
8/10(?)

Surprise of the season for me. The characters and concept so far are very tastefully handled (ie no creepy overt Kirino fetishing). Good balance of effective comedy and family drama. Very good and consistent artwork. Still I just can't past how silly Kirino's Eroge fetish is.....

Sore Demo Machi wa Mawatteiru
3 eps
7/10

Overall good somewhat wacky slice of life comedy. Animation is elaborately active, good art design and seiyuu work. Problems are a lack of clean up work on said animation, which can get a little fidgity. Manic seiyuu work and double takes sometimes makes the show a little caustic all though it seems to get better as it goes on.

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt
4 eps
10/10

People may not get it, but forgod sakes, IT'S A CARTOON!!!! Great take on western style cartoon comedy with a rude attitude. Is gimmicky and vulgar but is so visually lucious and extravagant that I don't care. It's an experience watching it. Also Soundtrack is BOSS!

While hardly the best Fall season, have had some pretty solid shows for what they are.

Bakuman (4): 8/10. Pedestrian animation, but I love the story of a boy and his dream - this story really gets it. I also love the "Manga 101" aspects.

Kuragehime (1): 9/10. Too early for a confirmed opinion, but I loved the first episode. Refreshingly unvarnished look at what it means to not fit in with society.

Ore no Imouto (4): 9/10. Very different from the ecchi incest comedy I was expecting. I'm struggling a bit with how repugnant Kirino's behavior can be, though I know it's essential to the story. That's more than balanced by the smart writing, wonderful humor and willingness to confront serious issues.

Shinryaku Ika Musume (3): 9/10. I truly treasure any anime that can consistently make me laugh, and this one does. It's very silly and somewhat demented, but still has a good-natured quality to it. Ika Musume is hilarious and I love all the supporting cast.

Sora no Otoshimo Forte (3): 7/10. It's still lightweight and appears to be replaying the themes of S1, but I appreciate that SnO is unpretentious and unrelentingly ecchi. And the humor is creative, as opposed to...

Motto To Love Ru (3): 5/10. It really feels as if this show has stopped trying. Just random nudity and public humiliation for its own sake. I still like a few of the characters and it can draw a chuckle, but this is a shadow of the first half of S1.

Soredemo (3): 7.5/10. It's good SHAFT and good Shinbo - the visual trickery serves the story and doesn't smother it. I love Arashiyama as a lead - she's insanely goofy and lovable and Chiaki Omigawa is hitting the performance out of the park. Like a lighter, more misogynistic Natsu no Arashi.

Tegami Bachi Reverse (4): 8/10. No speed bumps - it's really a continuation of S1. So far, still the same openly sentimental story of a crybaby boy and his dingo. A truly gorgeous and faithful manga adaptation.

Index II (3): 7/10. See above - pretty much a straight continuation. I don't think this is a great property but it's solidly entertaining and I enjoy Touma as a lead, and Biri Biri works better as a supporting character IMO.

Yosuga no Sora
(4): 8/10. I'm not crazy about the omnibus format but at least this series does an interesting twist on it. I've seen so many comparisons, but what this most recalls for me is Sola. It's an odd mix - thoughtful and sentimental, almost hardcore at times, beautifully directed with great music.

Fortune Arterial (3): 6.5/10. This one hasn't made much of an impression on me, though it's getting more interesting. Not exciting but interesting enough to keep watching for now.

Star Driver (4): 6.5/10. My apologies to everybody who loves this one, but it just isn't doing much for me. I find the plot to be a bit ponderous even for BONES, and while I appreciate the over-the-top theatricality of the show I just don't find it especially interesting.

Panty/Stocking (4): 5/10. Some real talent seriously slumming. Easy targets - cum jokes, fat jokes, pedo jokes - while there's the occasional clever meta-humor I don't think there's much creative or daring going on here.

Comments: A relatively sophisticated series that profiles "regular society family" with a daughter who is popular and a model but has a secret 'deviant hobby'. I'm impressed with the relatively reality of the relationships and the situations so far. The art and animation has some stellar moments.

Name of Series: Otome Yokai Zakuro

Rating: 9/10
Comments: Lots of interesting threads going on in this series, interracial romance, alternate reality historical Japan, Shinto elements, a set of seinen romances with splashes of shoujo art. Many of the underlying elements and pairings remind me of Love*Com with a serious streak. I'm already cursing the series for being too short - I really hate the economic tightness which has tightened down so hard on approving 2 cour series.

Name of Series: Yosuga no Sora
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 7/10
Comments: I'm kind of bipolar on this -- each scene is either spectacular or utterly derivative. The central thread (Yosuga and Sora) is fascinating but the rest... sometimes its Key-like, sometimes its eye-rolling silliness. The novel thing is the way its handling the story routes from the source VN. Not omnibus in the way Amagami is but not integrated like, say, Canvas 2 or Clannad. It will probably really suffer from the one cour series length.

Name of Series: Shinryaku! Ika Musume
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating 9/10
Comments: I wasn't going to watch this as I thought it was a kid's show... whether it is or not is irrelevant though. It has great animation/art and really good comic pacing.

Name of Series: Gainax - Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
Episodes Watched: 2
Rating 7/10
Comments: An unusual series... a bit too hip to be really funny and overflowing with potty humor. But academically its a really interesting parody of "american adult cartoons" with lots of Engrish and western cultural references. I keep saying "yeah yeah I get the joke" and try to drop it but it keeps creeping back.

I have the following in my download queue but haven't had time to watch any:
The World God Only Knows -- still not really sure why this is such an "omigod ftw" series with its fans, I've watched a few minutes of a couple of episodes -- but not enough to have an opinion yet.
Sore Demo Machi wa Mawatteiru -- this looks to be pretty amusing if not life-changing but haven't even had time to fire up the first episode.
MM -- this seems a bit like "fiery tsundere and masochist, a perfect match" nonsense but will leave it on my "to do" list

I'm still watching Amagami though I'm not sure why (o.O), the omnibus is interesting but the execution has been clumsy. I've got a few series from last season and the season before that to finish up as well. Plus someone sent me a pile of anime I'll have to plow through over the winter.

Name of Series: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Rating: 7/10
Comments: GAINAX does it again. Hilarious, if utterly crude, show with enough art shifts to give you whiplash. Very much the kind of show where YMMV.

Name of Series: To Aru Majutsu no Index II
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 8/10
Comments: If you're an Index fan, this season pretty much picks things up right where they left off before and that's pretty much a good thing. If you're a Railgun fan, sadly there isn't much Mikoto in the show. At least not yet...

Name of Series: Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai / The World God Only Knows

Comments: An interesting and entertaining show, but not exactly ground-breaking on any front. Latest episode was pretty much a filler and felt flat.

Name of Series: Ore no Imouto
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 9/10
Comments: Hands down the best show this season so far. Humor aplenty, but also some good drama and interesting commentary on anime fandom and its level of acceptance.

In addition I'm also continuing to watch Amagami SS, but it's difficult to rate due to the omnibus approach they've taken with the story.

Comments: Well, my most anticipated series this season next to Index (I read all 6 volumes of the novel, which doesn't happen very often...). To think that the even better part has not even come yet...a 9.5 b/c it's not quite epic enough in terms of "I'll still think about this / rewatch this million times after the series finish".

Name of Series: TWGOK
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 7/10
Comments: Well, the only thing is that I don't quite see (yet) why the series is rated highly. But then, I haven't read the manga, if I did, my opinion may be way different since beginning of most series is rather meh before it goes into the better stuff...

Name of Series: Toaru Majutsu no Index II
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 8.5/10
Comments: Nothing wrong with the show, I just like Railgun (Need more Kuroko...) more.

Name of Series: MM!
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 7.5/10
Comments: Don't really know how to put this show...

Name of Series: Shinryaku! Ika Musume
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 9/10
Comments: Surprise of this season for me. Didn't really pay attention to it until I saw some good reviews, got addicted to Ika-chan since then. Ika-chan for Saimoe 11 crown!!!

Name of Series: Yosuga no Sora
Episodes Watched: 3 (4 later today when I get to it)
Rating: 6/10
Comments: It's not really that bad (Twincest FTW...hopefully Kirino x Kyousuke would eventually go there), but I guess dating sim adaptation is just not my thing (I can say the same thing about Amagami, which I'm watching at a snail pace).

(Add in "newer" series)
Name of Series: Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (OVA)
Episodes Watched: 1
Rating: 8.5/10
Comments: Fairly standard Railgun episode (aka almost cheesy friendship). Story is average as usual but with Tsunderailgun and Kuroko the score will goes up either way.

Name of Series: MS Gundam Unicorn
Episodes Watched: 2 (Episode 2)
Rating: 10/10
Comments: Did not disappoint. Great animation, great battle, great story. Not as much "main character destroy 100 MS in no time" modern Gundam series (I still haven't forgive you, Fukuda, for making SEED basically piece of crap) feel, rather found a balance between "god-like" machine (Gundam Unicorn) v. a good machine pilot by good pilot (Sinanju). And well, having a Char (Copying original Zeta Gundam) doesn't hurt...

Name of Series: To Aru Majutsu no Index
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 9/10
Comments: Been waiting for this for so long, and it's finally here. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 10 (from pure happiness of having Index back) is the animation at times, especially in the opening (and also Mikoto invading it even though she's JUST A SIDE CHARACTER AND PEOPLE KEEP COMPLAINING ABOUT NEEDING MORE OF HER DESPITE THIS NOT BEING HER SHOW AND SHE JUST GOT HER OWN 24 EPISODE SPINOFF MONTHS AGO PLUS AN OVA -ragerant-) I'm watching how closely J.C.Staff adapts this from the light novels, and they've done a good job so far (albeit cutting out the interesting explanations, but a lot of people would complain about that if they left that in, so eh.)

Name of Series: Oreimo
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 9/10
Comments: Incredibly realistic and wonderfully written, Oreimo manages to prove itself worthy as one of the best shows this season. It has really good art and great characters (but Kirino seriously annoyed me in episode 4...)

Name of Series: TWGOK
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 8/10
Comments: The opening is seriously great and I've heard good things about this series. The characters are pretty fun.

Name of Series: Bakuman
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 8/10
Comments: Bakuman has a realistic portrayal of aiming for your dreams and how much hard work it actually takes to become a mangaka. I love it for that very reason. However, I really don't like the romance aspect of the show and Azuki and her family all look flat as characters to me.

Name of Series: Ika Musume
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 9/10
Comments: This is a series that is incredibly funny, refreshing, and light hearted. Ika-Musume never fails to bring a smile to my face and it's one of those shows that pull off comedy well without the need to rely on fanservice. Plus, IKA-MUSUME IS SO CUUUUUTE.

Name of Series: MM!
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 8/10
Comments: You know, when everyone read the description of this show they immediately dismissed it as trash. It really isn't. Sure, there's a violent tsundere (if you can call her that) and a hardcore masochist, but when you look past all the M related jokes there lies at the core a story about acceptance. There are some serious themes here, and episodes 2 and 3 were really good. If you've dropped it, try giving it another chance.

Name of Series: Kuragehime
Episodes Watched: 1
Rating: 9/10
Comments: When I heard about this I just knew that I would love it. Kuragehime is a realistic portrayal of those that don't fit in with the rest of society and it has shown a very promising start. noitaminA really knows how to choose their shows.

Name of Series: Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 9/10
Comments: ARAKAWA IS BACK HELL YEAH!!

Name of Series: Yosuga no Sora
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 4/10
Comments: You know, this could have been a really great series if they hadn't made the protagonist instantly trigger all the flags of the girls in the area and if they hadn't thrown in so much blatant fanservice (it can't even be called fanservice anymore because at this point it's just straight out ecchi). Dropping this, picking it back up if I hear good things about it later.

Name of Series: Panty & Stocking
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 5
Comments: This is just so starkly different from all the other anime out there and so insanely executed that I just HAVE to keep watching for the WTF factor.

Name of Series: Fortune Arterial
Episodes Watched: 1
Rating: 4/10
Comments: This just seems so...predictable. I'll catch up with a few more episodes later to see if it gets better, but odds are that I'll drop it and pick it back up again if I hear good things about it later.

I'm only rating all the anime I've seen after 3 episodes to be fair, although I may have watched more (in parentheses).

Name of Series: Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 7/10
Comments: Episode one was interesting enough for me to keep going. I'm glad I watched episodes two and three at the same time, because they were really good! It's interesting, because I consider this anime the middle ground between a harem and time reset (Amagami SS). In fact, the anime treats the "memory wipe" nicely, because there's a slight regret of losing the relationship that took so much to build. In short, perfect execution.

Name of Series: MM!
Episodes Watched: 3 (4)
Rating: 7/10
Comments: After 5 minutes, I began to groan because this seems like one of those type of anime I just hate. But it's somehow interesting and I enjoy watching every episode, so I'm giving this a 7. However, this is probably the anime that might come crashing down in the end, but I'm hoping it wont'.

Name of Series: Ore no Imouto
Episodes Watched: 3 (4)
Rating: 8/10
Comments: So far, this is a solid series. One of those types where you just go "ugh" when you saw the title, but there's more to it than that. I'm really enjoying the non-stupid protagonist, the ever so rare "good" relationship between brother and sister, and following a plot that really I haven't seen before.

Name of Series: Pokemon Best Wishes
Episodes Watched: 3 (5)
Rating: 5/10
Comments: This is as average as a Pokemon anime can be, with the exception that Iris is super moe. Animation quality was upped but my interest/uniqueness of plot decreased, so it balances out. I'm hoping that gym battles will provide excitement or something. When contests were introduced, it made the anime new and refreshing. Hopefully, something like that will come along.

Name of Series: Shinryaku Ika Musume
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 5/10
Comments: Apart from the fact that Ika-Musume is possibly the most moe "thing" this season, I find the story quite boring. Usually, these kinds of anime have some central theme it follows, like K-ON! If the theme of Ika Musume is "squid taking over the world," then I'm afraid to say it's failing horribly. Episodic is fine, but as long as they're not completely random.

Name of Series: Tegami Bachi Reverse
Episodes Watched: 3 (4)
Rating: 6/10
Comments: I love how the first episode just continues where it left off last season, no OP, no recap, no nothing. Letter Bee is still a "good watch" every week. However, Lag crying has finally annoyed me, so now I'm hoping there's some interesting plot development.

Name of Series: To Aru Majustu no Index
Episodes Watched: 3
Rating: 6/10
Comments: So far, I'm following the plot of season 2 quite nicely, although I still can't connect season 2 with season 1 (mostly because I didn't understand season 1). Like Letter Bee, it's an entertaining watch every week, but I don't look forward to it.

---

Name of Series: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
Episodes Watched: 1 (dropped)
Rating: 6/10
Comments: I'm not exactly sure why people hate this anime, but I was thoroughly entertained by its first episode. The only reason I dropped it was lack of time and the other anime have characters that are more likely to make it to saimoe.

Heh, you don't want to see the scores I give to the series I've dropped or ruled out initially.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes - 5/10 (3 episodes)
It's stupid and all the characters are idiots. However it's also unpretentious, funny sometimes and gives me a good needed dose of moe to balance everything else out.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume - 8/10 (4 episodes)
It might be sort of moeblob, but generally funny gags and characters with some clever writing makes it one of the funnier shows I've seen recently.

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt - 8/10 (4 episodes)
Toilet humor animated. To me it comes out something more like "highbrow toilet humor" that manages to mix some very clever writing and storytelling with typical sex jokes. It manages to succeed most of the time, and I give it props for it.

Yosuga no Sora - 7/10 (4 episodes)
It feels very experimental most of the time, combined with its taboo subject. It's omnibus format makes it difficult to give a better defining opinion.

Ore no Imouto etc. - 8/10 (4 episodes)
A very subjective setting but it's really not what it seems to be. To me I find it to be a rather believable brother-sister dynamic given her conflicting otaku/fashion life.

Soredemo Machi - 8/10 (3 episodes)
Very mundane yet very insane. It puts dynamic flair into otherwise everyday affairs of an atypical maid cafe. A nice and refreshing watch.

The World God Only Knows - 8/10 (4 episodes)
As a manga fanboy, personally I think the series is doing a pretty good job of adapting the now troubled life of the galge god.

Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan season 2 - 7/10 (3 episodes)
Only 3 episodes in and it's a ton better than the original series already. Better animation, nice fights and the plot is actually moving at a brisk pace.

Kuragehime - 9/10 (1 episode)
Only one episode and this is shaping up to be the best show of the season. Hanazawa Kana's best voice work so far, coupled with a very believable yet otherworldly cast and excellent potential, this is my top pick of the season.

Comments: My favorite series of season, thus far really has done a great job at being an otaku slice of life series with plenty of funny moments, and with a fairly realistic relationship between Kirino and Kyousake.

Name of Series: Yosuga no Sora

Rating: 6.7
Comments: It's an interesting approach to the onmi-bus format of an anime series, which has been good so far, but has me wondering if it's blurring the line between an "Ecchi" and "Hentai" a bit too much, but it has a fairly good storyline so far. Though I'll be watching to end mostly since I like Sora's character already .

Comments: One of Series I picked out of the word of others, though I had low expectations of the series by the description of the anime as I thought I would most likely not be able to stand, but the first episode showed me wrong completely, it's great to hilarious, and character not just being played for there trait, and probably the on a pure comedy scale this season, and great ED .

Name of Series: The World God Only Knows
Episodes Watched: 4
Rating: 9
Comments: A series I considered at first, and like MM was talked into trying it, and it's been excellent so far, the premise is pretty good and allows to have to a good plot so far with some great humor and Elsie is just freaking adorable and hilarious at times . Also the OP is pretty dam good, and fitting for the series.

Name of Series: Bakuman

Rating: 5.5
Comments: I didn't really plan to try this series, and despite people getting me to watch I can't say I really enjoyed it, while it wasn't bad or awful I was left rather bored by the first episode and lacked heavily in humor, and art style/animation/music doesn't really suit me, especially the music for it, I find the music annoying and/or unfitting at times.

Also still following Amagami SS and Katanagatari.

Just comments since I don't really like to assign letter and number grades anymore because to me they are meaningless placeholders for words and thoughts:

Star Driver: First episode was a huge hit with me, but lately I've been cooling on this show. I think what needs to happen is for them to quit with the wacky high school antics that don't contribute a whole lot to the narrative and use the time to develop and give a little more backstory to the characters. Once I finally know what they are all about I think I'll be all for Star Driver again. Other than that excellent animation and action sequences with some sexy character designs make this the eye candy show of the season.

Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt: Pinch me, a Japanese anime I actually find funny and it's not Gintama or Sgt. Frog. While it's been mentioned that there's a fair bit of toilet humour and sex jokes I think it's the chemistry between the two main seiyuu Arisa Ogasawara and Mariya Ise that makes this show a winner. The two seem so natural in their respective roles of Panty and Stocking and are able to bounce their lines off of each other at such a quick rapid pace that it adds to the amusement factor greatly. Also the fact that the show makes light of more than just otaku in-joke culture (which seems to have become the norm for anime) and is saavy with regard to American and other pop culture opens up a whole new world of material to be exploited which the show has done a great job of so far. Probably my favourite of the season right now.

Super Robot Wars: The Inspector: A pretty paint by numbers mecha action series that does it's job of adapting the second Super Robot Wars Original Generation game. Satisfactory, but nothing remarkable.

Ore No Imouto: Oh dear....I can feel my popularity about to take a nose dive again. Alright look, if it were any more possible for a show to have rubbed me the wrong way in just about every way imaginable I might not be quite so cold with regard to this one. The show just reeks of being built from the ground up to be about one thing and one thing only....making Kirino the moe idol of the now with 2ch at the expense of having a rational relatable character. Her entire character is an amalgamation of things otaku tend to love including jailbait cuteness, eroge otakudom, perfection in all things school related (savantism I suppose), tsundere, abusiveness to the main dud of a male character....just the works. I keep assuming I'm supposed to feel sorry for her for and relate to her finding it difficult to make friends who share the same hobby as her or whatever, but these seem like small problems when your oh so perfect in every other way but for your personality. Talk about a workable concept of an otaku trying to overcome persecution made completely unworkable by a contrived character and slipshod writing. At least there will always be Welcome To The NHK I suppose

Gundam Unicorn Episode 2: The first OVA of the season I've watched and it does not disappoint in the slightest. The gorgeous animation quality is back from the first episode, the story flows seamlessly from the end of said first episode picking up right where it left of and not missing a beat or letting up on the narrative until leaving off on yet another cliffhanger at the end to be resolved next time. We get to learn more about the characters we met in the first episode and are introduced to some new players and given a little bit more backstory on what has been going on in the three years since the movie Char's Counterattack. The dialogue is extra sharp in this one featuring the politicking, philosophizing and smartness I've come to expect from the Gundam franchise. Left not much for wanting except for the next episode to be released.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume ~ 3/12 episodes watched
I find it quite pitiful that Ika Musume arrives at the surface with absolutely nothing prepared, which makes her very vulnerable at times. These moments of vulnerability adds to her charm, and like the people from Beach House Lemon, I'm enjoying her "domineering" presence.
MAL Profile Score: 9 (enjoyable)
True Score: 8

The World God Only Knows ~ 1/12 episodes watched, officially on hold
Conquering hearts like they are Monsters of the Week: not a very nice plot if you'd ask me. To add, Keima's looks do not actually add up with his attitude, which lacks masculinity. I'll still watch this, but even I have no guarantees that I'll be able to give this high marks.
MAL Profile Score: 8 (default score)
True Score: 6

Yosuga no Sora ~ 4/12+ episodes watched
This is no School Days, I'm telling you. Yosuga needs the viewer to deeply understand every object in the set, every piece of dialogue, every snippet of plot to piece together how the story goes. Thanks to relentlessflame, who has experience with the source and is also a nice commentator of events in the series thread, I managed to put things in perspective; however, if you're the type who thinks while watching, this might exercise you brain cells.
MAL Profile Score: 10 (part of my Best-Loved Series)
True Score: 9

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai ~ 5/12 episodes watched, primary series to watch
The plot reminds me of Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, although with the added challenge that more of the characters poke otaku with a 10-m long stick. Kirino would need a bit a patience as she usually uses her brother as a meat shield against otaku haters, but all in all, the story is shaping up to be a nice series to look out for.
MAL Profile Score: 9 (enjoyable)
True Score: 9

Toaru Majutsu no Index II ~ 4/24 episodes watched
Like many people said, this is not the type of sequel which starts with a bang; if you're a fan of the source light novels, you'd understand why. Also, having experience with the light novels is an advantage for watchers of this series, especially because there will be some things which would leave the viewers wondering.
I would have to admit that because of J.C. Staff working on five series including Index, quality dips lower than the first few episodes of the first season, but not to the point of utter crap.
MAL Profile Score: 9 (enjoyable)
True Score: 8

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun OVA 01
Basically, this OVA sums up how the story of Railgun happens: some fluffy interactions between the heroines, an adversary hidden in plain sight, friends helping out each other, and teamwork that takes down the enemy, culminating in another fluffy moment.
Although the opening and ending credits feel off, the OVA is nonetheless enjoyable.
MAL Profile Score: 9
True Score: 8

> Motto To Love-Ru
Expectancy Score: 9
> Tegami Bachi Reverse

Kuragehime

I think this is the best show so far in the season. adaptation of a award winning josei-manga, noitamina slot, story about female otaku. Wonderful ED/OP songs and animation. superb performance by Kana Hanazawa; lively characters; and so far a very enjoyable story. it will probably remain a hidden gem...

Tamayura

another hidden gem... slice-of-life reminiscent of ARIA (it has the same director). very enjoyable and relaxing and heart-warming show. great musical score, lovely OP/ED; watching Tamayura will make you feel good.

Yozakura Quartet ~Hoshi no Umi~

was interested in this show after watching the PV. can't remember much of the first season, but I'm really liking the new and crispy visuals. some great animation, too...

Otome Yokai Zakuro

checked this out very recently, but I was pleasantly surprised by the crispy, vibrant and eye-pleasing visuals. loved the story so far and how it combines drama and comedy. lively characters, too---I'm especially fond of the twins. and I can't get enough of that song: "Bravo, Bravo, Bravo..."

Imouto

I think this show is my guilty pleasure. There are different elements of the story that makes this so enjoyable to watch. seems to be getting better.

Ika Musume

my fix for comedy. so far very enjoyable, and I got a couple of very good laughs. Ika is a nice character and her lack of common sense is sometimes very hilarious.

Bakuman

Another guilty pleasure. I'm liking the story and how it's developing; a bit too slow methinks, but so far a very enjoyable journey.

Nah, it's good to have opinions. But you yourself said those things you listed are an "amalgamation of things otaku tend to love," which means there should be no surprise Ore no Imouto is one of the highest rated shows this season. If character and writing are a bull's eye for its target audience, then I'd say the anime is completely workable...to them.

What makes Kirino a relatable character for the shows target audience, myself included, is her issues: having a totally fringe hobby that you really like, but simply cannot explain to outsiders and which tends to make you feel like a circus freakshow.

I also didn't have anything like the "contrived character" reaction you did. I find her characterization as a nasty little b**** a lot more convincing than most depictions of little sisters, and the eroge thing doesn't strike me as weird because I know female eroge players. Even the "I play them because they're cute" bit made sense to me. Granted, I have yet to meet anyone who takes that to the extent of playing lolicon incest eroge, but I know girls who watched Kodomo no Jikan so even that didn't seem much of a stretch.

Actually, the show struck me as a bait and switch... I thought they were going to take the "my sister is an otaku" gag and run it into the ground, but instead they went a much more serious route. In this case, I found the switch much more interesting than the bait... I was pretty "meh" on the whole show until episode 3, but I've been liking it more every episode, especially since the introduction of Ayase. Still not quite enough to unseat Otome Youkai Zakuro as my season favourite though.
