I didn't think it was that bad. At least the drama was happening on a mountain.

Hinata is definitely going through some teenage angst, though. Only now she's got bigger problems to worry about. That knee's going to be killing her by the time they make it back to the campsite. Going down is a lot harder on knees than going up.

The atmosphere is quite heavy in the latest ep. I can literally feel how Aoi felt around moody Hinata.

I have a bad feeling that she will fully express her anger when Aoi noticed it and try to help her......something along the line:

"Mind your own business! Why the hell do you even care about me right now!!?"

Let hope it won't be that bad...

There's still going to be drama. This time, Hinata's the one who will have to give up before the destination, and who knows how that'll play out.

I believe you mean Hinata there.

If that's the case, then yeah, there's no way she's making it up the mountain the next day. She may not be an old guy like me, but not even teenagers heal that quickly.

The drama just feels out of place in this series to me. It doesn't help that this has been dragged out over several episodes.

I have to agree, if they had to play the 'My best friend has got new friends! What if they prefer them to me?' drama card, they didn't really need to drag it out this long, as we got the point already!

It just sticks out from the general feel this series has always had.

Why do you think this drama is out of place in the series? This is not even the first time the characters have made a big deal of something petty... in fact it's pretty much something that defines the entire relationship of Aoi and Hinata. And that's why I like it, it's refreshingly realistic to see best friends argue and stop talking to each other, it has happened various times in the past, and it will keep happening because Aoi and Hinata are clear opposites in many aspects.

The general feel this series always had includes stuff such as misunderstandings and (mostly) Aoi holding grudges, this is not something new. It is not a pure iyashikei and friendships are not devoid of conflict as other similar shows.

Hinata's emotional processes this season make sense. They reflect something that had to be tackled one way or the other because from the very first episode of this series the relationship between Aoi and her had been built in unequal terms, with Aoi being helpless and Hinata being the saviour. That is quite toxic for a long-term friendship, and the show is acknowledging this through Hinata's perplexed feelings when Aoi starts to show change that doesn't involve her.

And I won't even start with how carefully this entire process is being executed because honestly, this season is getting even better than usual with character acting and visual narrative.

That's a bit of a simplification. Hinata doesn't seem to be upset that Aoi has new friends or anything, but rather that they aren't spending any time together. She's repeatedly tried to go places with Aoi and wound up failing due to bad timing. She keeps going to great places and seeing great things and, while enjoying them, finds herself feeling sad that she isn't seeing them with her best friend. Then she sees Aoi and Aoi doesn't seem to care one bit one way or another about this, shows absolutely no sign of disappointment that she isn't there. It's not just "does she like them more than me", it's "does she not even care if I'm gone, or feel a bit of the loneliness I'm feeling". And what's worse Aoi's actually experiencing a lot of the things Hinata's experiencing, just separate from her. Fate over the last few weeks or more has been forcing them to live their lives mostly separate from one another. Being the only one who feels lonely over this hurts. And a simple meal because "looks like you're upset" isn't going to fix that pain. Hinata doesn't want Aoi to feel bad for her or to want her to cheer up, she wants her to miss her as much as she does.

Hinata isn't really angry at Aoi over anything specific. She's feeling angst because things are changing and she doesn't know what's going to happen, and she's acting out. Her anger is the way her anxiety is expressing itself.

This is a pretty typical thing for teenagers to go through (and non-teenagers too, for that matter), but I don't think I've seen it done with this particular nuance before. Jal90 is right that this arc has been handled well.

When the series started, Hinata seemed a lot more mature than Aoi, but over the course of what they've been through, Aoi has caught up and is now moving ahead. It's about time for Hinata to do some growing of her own.

Really enjoyed this ep.

Aoi and Hinata patched things up nicely. It all happened very naturally.

It was a nice "ending". Really liked Hinata and Aoi's little talk. Hope we get a fourth season too.

It's not that the drama has been done poorly or anything like that. The presentation was well done, makes sense for the characters, and their resolution was perfectly suiting. My problem with it is that I come to this series for fluffy happy friendship and mountain climbing. I want sweetness and healing when I watch this series, not unease and unhappiness.

So I simply stopped watching before episode 10 and waited until now to watch straight through from there until the end, thus getting past the problems and straight to the resolution in one shot.

I will say I probably enjoyed this season the least out of the three. Troubles with the final quarter of it aside, there's also the fact that Kaede (my favorite of the girls) spent nearly the entire time being locked away and unable to join them in anything. Basically, this season removed elements that I like, and spent extra time focusing on elements that I don't, so I cannot really say that I enjoyed it as much as the previous two. :/

Ends on a good note, though.

We need another season, so Aoi can finally get to the top of Fuji. That's the only logical end to the story.
