It was an honest mistake, really. Unless you're a pretty hardcore fan of the monster collecting series, the GIF above barely registers as a related property. Where are all the cute little creatures? Why is no one wearing goggles? This looks like a much more mature role-playing game.

That's because it is.
Come on! If even KOTAKU is writing articles about it you know demands are high for this game Bamco! Just do it

To be fair, I want two games for North America- This, and God Eater Burst 2

While this would be nice, I'd prefer the 3DS game. Digimon World (1) with updated graphics, new Digimon, expanded story from the PSP version, etc.

I still think God Eater has a decent chance.

But seriously, will BN budge or is this like the Gundam IP where they absolutely want it to be Japan only for whatever silly reason.

It's not in the same boat as Gundam. They're just being super overly cautious about it because they aren't sure it'd sell enough for their liking.

SAO sold better than they expected, so Cyber Sleuth has much higher chance to be localized than before. We still have to wait until the game get released in Japan to know if they actually bother with the west.

But that's because the SAO anime gain at least some popularity in the West. Meanwhile, Digimon fell into obscurity, though if they were to time it with the (hopeful) American release of Digimon Tri...

I think that's why we will have to wait, and they are gauging the Digimon interest with the (lol) arena battle game and the upcoming anime.

Someone has to look at that arena battle game within the company and go "Okay. Why are we releasing this?'' They should have just waited for the Japanese release & anime.

Because making a fighting game is cheap as hell, and they're hoping to rope in fans in a way to "prove" the franchise can sell.

In other words, they're taking advantage of fans for a quick buck.

Is it though? I heard even an indie fighting game like Skullgirls cost around 100k a character.

Unless you mean a bad fighting game then well, yeah I guess lol.

Skullgirls costs that much for voicing, design, a corresponding stage, and corresponding story mode.

This already had models from the 3DS/Vita, wouldn't surprise me if it just reused voices from the anime, and doesn't have a story mode at all from my understanding.

If they were smart they would try to re-release the older series to pave the road to the new series.

If they were smart they'd just stop jerking fans around and release it before people stop caring.

Exactly. If they want to gauge interest, do so with Cyber Sleuth or the 3DS game. Not beat around the bush.

The thing is, by this time, the only people who actually care are us fan that all we need to know is that there is a new Digimon game coming and we will want to buy it. Let's face it, we are in their pocket... However, the casual consumer already doesn't care.

For the casual consumers, they might need the Anime to supplement hype.

Which means getting the dubs over.

But I don't know, this is clearly a game for the older digimon fans, anyone still interested in Digimon games I imagine would be aware of this already.

Given the petition (despite you being able to sign multiple times) I think its pretty clear there's demand and an audience.

I know GDB is right that they can basically make a quick cash grab using the IP. But it makes more sense to see how it fairs by publishing a similar game rather than something completely different.

Tales Of had pretty much lost to Final Fantasy in the west. Still gets published. Still sells. It's not like people buy only a single game ever.
