RRR, I don't think satire was the main course here - it was a side dish. There was a satire of shounen tropes happening, but I think this was the least ironic of all the arc so far. It was very much a "hard" sci-fi story, and I think the exploration of the idea - Pioneer and Voyager as self-aware - was quite straightforward.

Surely other people besides myself anthropomorphized those probes a little - thinking about them being the first human artifacts to leave the solar system and enter the cold infinity of space. Didn't you ever, just for moment, think that they might be lonely?

*Puts up hand* I certainly felt sorry for them, and it made me look at the 'soon-to-land-on-Mars' Curiosity in a very different way....The very thought of floating freely in space with no end in sight is scary....

I am so glad she stepped in to help them! The ending made me feel all warm and fuzzy, especially when it showed the sunlight shining on them both

Also, I didn't catch on that this was a 'flash-back' episode, so when they were going to cut her hair, I thought the hair was going to fight back since it gained sentience and all XD

That's perfectly fine. It's just very different from what the first four episodes of Jinrui were like, so I was wondering if I was missing something here. I'm kind of relieved at the idea that I didn't miss anything, honestly.

It's fine for a comedic show to do something mostly serious/non-ironic from time-to-time. I don't have an issue with that.

"Probes lonely in the vast emptiness of space" is a good hard sci-fi concept to explore. I was relieved that Pion and Oyage were spared such a dark and lonely fate. Makes me think of a good Star Trek story, really.

I still saw plenty of comedy to be had these past few weeks. The fairies' guidebook on narrative conventions was great, and Pion and Oyage's posturing with each other, and all that it entailed (such as everyone largely ignoring the making of behind Killdozer), not to mention the sheer absurdity of the giant housecat vs nautilus fight, kept me laughing. From what I can tell, the show takes itself most seriously when it's not taking itself seriously at all.

Watashi's unfazed deadpan fatalism is really starting to grow on me. She's playing the self-aware straight man role that is usually reserved for male characters in anime, and I'm sort of digging on that choice.

Too bad it's a couple weeks out of date now.

Wow, I really liked the episode.

What got me thinking was why in the world would fairies hate electromagnetic waves. As if their presence was conditioned with the spread of electricity use. Humans would probably be more numerous if they had electricity, their population would eventually go back up. So the reason why fairies would ultimately leave would be because the habitat got overcrowded. Same thing happens if you leave planes to grow back into forests, consequentially harvest less food from the soil, and let wild animals take over. Someone's got to be the dominant force in the environment.

Also, humans are basically addicted to fairies at this point. If fairy density goes down, human numbers might rise, but having been nursed all this time they will become more prone to extinction. If fairy density goes up, humans will still exist, but in very moderate numbers. It could be that fairies are somehow a consequence of human overpopulation. Or it could be that humans resigned to fairy oversight because they lost their human tendency to fight against nature, which is more in line with the whole theme of Japan's postmodern, hedonist values taking over society.

I wonder what was up with that fairy becoming all lazy and despondent. I'm assuming it had something to do with their dislike of microwaves and Pion's microwave attack. Hmm, wonder if there's a deeper meaning to the microwave thing.

This arc is set before the chicken arc in the novel.

Speaking of which, can anyone help put up a timeline for the chronological ordering of the episodes?

It was deleted twice by the mods

But I guess this is OK now: 5->6->1->2->3->4

Anyway, this arc felt somewhat compressed story-wise, but making fun of sci-fi and shounen fans was very enjoyable, I just wish they devouted one more episode in order to focus more on each group... they got away quite easily compared to fujoshi

yes, Arc 3 -> Arc 1 -> Arc 2
it is indeed compressed
3 eps is more suitable for this arc
If i were the production team, I would only focus on vol 1-5
leave these 2 eps for this arc and maybe another arc in vol 1-5
vol 6 can be animated in the next season (I hope so)

okay, this is the conclusion of the arc
the plot, the emotion, the idea were gone too fast
it is better if they had more time to develop
so I think this arc is fair, not as good as the previous arcs
the highlight of this ep is the "cat fight"
it is a very adorable fight

So, the next arc is "The fairies' time management"
as you can see, it seemed that they wouldn't have a good time management skill

Does this mean Curiosity is going to come back to Earth as a Nekomimi?

Wow I have to say that... I was actually very much moved by the last half of the episode. A somewhat uncharacteristic change of approach given the first 5 episodes and yet it was pulled off amazingly well. Maybe the shift from comedy to some drama was jarring, but that was quickly lost once you start to stare into the emptiness of space like the two probes had to.

And to crank 1 hour for 1 minute... well... one day they'll have enough so that's a bright lining to a bittersweet conclusion to this mini tale right?

With a second thought
I think I may understand what Romeo is trying to say
the keyword of this arc/story is "Home"
fairies' "home"coming
"home" of the shut-in - a maze-like city
the Earth - the planet we call "home"
some of us are always reluctant to go out of our home, our planet, our comfort zone
because of fear, loneliness or whatever reasons
In this era, some people are always dare to explore
Thus, they bring a lot of amazing discovery
this is one of the precious humanity we have
but it seems that this trait of humanity is also declined in their world
Have we explored too much and missed some other things in our life?
I don't have the answer
