I was going to get a DS lite and give my current DS to my sister for her birthday, but now it looks like the chances of getting my hands on one in any sort of timely manner is going to be near impossible. Damn these cultural phenomenons.

Did you guys see this?

Quote:
- The PSP userbase is 96% male and Sony views this as a problem. Ideally, the company would like more women to play PSP and Sony looks to widen the system's appeal to various demographics.
96% is pretty high. I am almost convinced the "Mens Clothes" market would have less than 96%. I mean what the hell? Are there any women here who own a PSP?

Other Things that were announced:

Quote:
- PSP will get a videophone in Fall Exclamation and PSP EyeToy will be released.
- Starting this fall, the PSP will use RSS channel features. Video and voice-over-IP will release in October in "motion jpg" format. The PSP's own version of the EyeToy will launch a month earlier in September and the peripheral will feature EyeToy Play and video chat. The camera is sliver and it attaches to the USB port.
- Macromedia Flash will be supported in PSP by the next firmware update. Bootup from Memory Stick will be also supported in Fall.
- Official PSOne emulator for PSP

Yeah, can't wait for the PSOne 'emulator' from Sony. Here's the article from IGN:

http://psp.ign.com/articles/696/696052p1.html

"the PSP will see "E-Distrubution" features added sometime in the future.

Users will be able to boot software directly from their Memory Stick, all official-like this time around (you know what I mean). The first major announcement for use of this will be a series of PSOne games - yes, you will be able to download classic PlayStation titles and play them on your PSP. No word yet as of whether or not you'll be able to transfer games directly via disc or not, or which games we should see first, but more news on this as it comes in."

you can specifiy which screen the ds shows when playing a GBA game. Either the top screen or the bottom screen, it is your choice when you turn on the DS for the first time.

Has anyone here tried Lemmings on the PSP? It's out in Europe now, I picked it up the other day and I was amazed at how good it looked - I'm sure the original version didn't look this good. Cursor control using the D-pad is fine, but if you're worried about reaching that critical Lemming in time, you can always press Start to pause the game and then move around at your leisure (in fact I've found it useful to pause at the beginning of the level so I can look around the map). The game even includes a level editor so you can create your own levels and upload them to Central Station for other people to download.

Sounds sweet. I myself have just purchased street figher alpha 3 max for the psp, and it pretty much rocks. Only thing is that I'm looking for some guys to battle with via wifi; you know, flex my street fighter muscles

I've only tried out the DS, so I guess I'll have to say that.
I really want a PSP, but it's just so expensive and I heard the batteries only last about 4 hours. Though I must say, the fact that so much anime is becoming available for it, I think that's pretty cool... even though I'd probably just go out and buy the DVD's instead.

I'll stick to my GBA, there's always games coming out, plus I can play all my old school GB games.

The standard PSP battery lasts about 5 hours, I believe. There is a high capacity battery you can buy now, but I'm not sure how long that lasts. Also, as far as anime is concerned, you can convert fansubs or DVDs to PSP format and watch them from the PSP's memory stick, which is cheaper than buying UMD Videos.

Not to mention that UMDs will only be viewable on your PSP, while DVDs can be viewed on pretty much every system nowadays.

For the PSone Emulator, I much rather have the games released in UMD format($10 cheaper) rather than a download system and use up space for my memory stick.
I would buy Final Fantasy Tactics in a split second it gets released~

Only things I find that I use all the time is the MP3 and games...Videos are sorta short ended since once I watch it, I know I won't watch it again and my PSP is Japanese so a average imported UMD movie costs roughly $50. Maybe if there were Chinese UMD music discs available and they were going for the same price as the CDs, I would pick some up...

I have been wondering since I got my PSP for Christmas if it will play all regions or just Region1 (I have a US PSP). Because I remember hearing somewhere that the PSP is capable of playing all regions reguardless of encoding....

As for the DS media player....look at all the extra CRAP you have to buy... not to mention the price...probably gonna be around $70~$100 when it hits the states. And who the hell likes Opera? Firefox and Netscape are far better browsers. And the PSP may have a dated version of Netscape, But, who's gonna do their friggin homework on their PSP, let alone a DS Lite that has smaller screens?

And yes, the DS Lite may look good, but the games are still pre-millienium. I bought Need For Speed Underground for my DS....hated it...took it back. Just got Need For Speed Most Wanted 5-1-0 for my PSP, and I can't put it down!
And....the PSP is only limited by the size of your MemoryStickDuo...which as far as I know, goes up to 2GB. That's enough to put nearly 2 full length movies! And as for the battery, I can get 5 hours of gameplay out of it, with the in-box battery, if I keep the light on low and the wireless off. I can even get 2 2hr movies off of a full charge.

From this point on Nintendo has lost my buisness...their last 2 systems were crap. And the Revolution isn't looking promising.

Man.. Im also getting totally insane about which one to get.

I have been debating to get either one for a long time now.

On PSP; They are making ports of FF7 and Valkyrie Profile. Both games I never had the chance to play. The graphics are amazing, and good games like Daxter and Syphon Filter is screaming out.

On DS; It can so many different stuff. A mini MMO like Contact looks uber cool, animal crossing, new super mario bros, metroid prime hunters, FF4.

I think you're mixing the UMD and games,
UMD are region lock, except for a few, like porns or strip dance videos.
Games however are not region coded, just like the GB, GBA and NDS.

IMO you must be a real gadget nerd to use a portable console with tiny screens
like NDS or PSP as a videoplayer, it's not worth it.

You forget that the DS is A LOT cheaper than a PSP to start with.

Dude, you don't know what you're getting into. :P
By the way, it's all about SeaMonkey, not about an over-hyped minimalist browser or ad-fuelled legacy.

Browsing the Internet on a portable mini-device is pointless. Period.

Do you play anything else than (IMO) shitty racers?

So? That's still not a lot.

I find the DS much better.

The reasons are simple. I buy a game system to PLAY GAMES! *gasp* If I wanted to watch movies... Id watch them on something larger then a small screen of the PSP or DS; If I wanted to listen to music.. I have an MP3 player; and graphics don't mean to much to me, I'm more about game play.

Now that we have narrowed it down to the games only since the other features are mere slight bonuses, let's take a look at which has better games. DS has good games like Tetris, Pac-man, Advanced Wars, Mario 64, Animal Crossing, Wariorware and more. Which good games does PSP have? umm GTA is alright, and Mega Man is very fun. That is about it.

So that is my opinion on it. I guess I'm a little biased towards good game play :P

I recently wrote up a quick review on another forum on the DS Lite I just got last week. You can check it out here if you want. ^^

http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=30801 <- well, it's the thread I made that has the link to the other forum. XD

And yes, I love my DS Lite.
