Prince of Stride Alternative
An new anime titled 'Prince of Stride Alternative' has been announced. The official site is up and it will be adapted by Madhouse studios. It will debut in Winter 2016. The tagline is: "Boys Sprint to the End of Summer". I think it will be a sports related anime with track & field involved. Official site: http://pos-a.jp/ Premise/Plot Summary: Quote:

Ok I'm not really into sports anime nor am I into otome-ge stuff but I must say ep 1 was really fun and refreshing regardless of those facts. lol HanaKana helps of course, too, although I wouldn't say she is the reason I'll watch it.
Btw. I googled stride to no avail so I guess it's based on good old parkour.

Well, this was pretty much what I expected... it was kind of cute. Now let's see if it keeps on being cute, instead of bringing the angst and drama.
The production values are nothing to write home about but they're perfectly serviceable so far, and I like the bright, sharp, colorful visuals. (Suwabe Junichi plays the next long purple-haired pretty boy in line... ) |

Well that was pretty fun!! It was your usual bukatsu sports anime so nothing particularly new but still quite enjoyable.
About the visuals, I'm personally not a fan of this type of art style with extremely bright colors and minimalistic drawing (I hate those clouds) but this is more of a pet peeve than anything else so It doesn't actually bother me. None of the guy caught my attention (both looks and personality wise) but the girl was cute! Stride itself was the highlight to me because I had no idea what it was about and I was expecting your typical running, but jumping around buildings sure makes the whole thing more exciting! lol Looking forward to the next ep. |

Hmm that was alright. We got basically the intro of the main characters and some running (I expect pacing to pick up soon)
Riku Yagami seems like a fun guy introduced in the episode. Then, there's Sakurai. The OP song was okay, catchy in some ways and showed a lot more characters than I had expected. The artwork is nice, definitely has the vibrant quality from Madhouse. Fun stuff overall. I wonder how much characterization we'll get for the main characters. Sakuraki has quite a bit of responsibility though. Also glad to see a little bit about the mechanics of the running fields, rules, etc. I think the episode introduced the premise and story consistently overall. The competition and running angles with the tense atmosphere was actually exciting so I'm looking forward to more of that.

Came into this watching this thinking i was going to get a Free clone or parody. In fact it was nice, yes it has similar aspects to Free other than the character design of a certain someone. But the first episode actually got me pumped up. It left some hidden clues about whats to come.
-The upperclassmen tells the underclassmen to stay away from the stride club -the 2 juniors quitting -the importance of the name of the blonde guy (excuse me i just started this I'm sorry i don't remember their names) probably a brother of someone -the shot of the long haired guy looking in disdain -as well as the teacher in the office mentioning the stride club is at it again A lot happened in a saturated first episode. Its not the highest of quality from madhouse but it works for this anime. Im actually really excited to see where the story leads to. |

I can't decide whether I liked the stylised animation with its brightly oversaturated flat colour and simple lines, or whether it was a bit too much. It might grow on me.
Does seem there are some undercurrents which haven't become clear yet, but I shall hang around a few episodes to see what's going on. |

That was pretty entertaining. A bit hit and miss on the humour though, but for a sport anime introductory episode, it pretty much hits most things right. I especially enjoyed the whole "stride" thing which i think would be much more fun if this episode had been stretched out into two. The last 8 minutes is simply not enough for me!

I don't really get into many sports anime, most times because I'm not really into sports to begin with. However, there are a few, that can draw me in, ( incidently most of the time ones with femservice ) but I enjoyed Prince of Stride a lot, even though I didn't expect to and watched the series on a whim.
The plot was rather average, but I liked the cast quite a bit. The MC is rather nice, though I do have to wonder if female athletes are so unusual that she actually has to question if girls can race? I hope she does more than just stand on the side and watch, being moral support, but I doubt it. As for our boys, they are your usual hot stereotypes (the serious one, the trickster, the childlike one, the jock, etc.), but they're all likable. I'm looking forward to the long white-haired guy to come in since his archetype is my favorite. As for the racing itself, it was pretty cool to see, and I think I could really get into it. I didn't expect to have this on my list, but Prince is a keeper for now. That was exactly what I was thinking! It's like Free! with racing, and I loved Free!. Though these guys aren't exactly slouches in the sexy department either, if you know what I mean.

Episode 1
So the Stride Club is inactive because the two star players are now in third year and have left the club. Nana came to that school just for those two guys and now is disappointed that the club is inactive and the two aren't in it. Riku was a fun guy although the megane dude was a bit creepy with his leg fetish. I like the Stride thing this has going which is a combination of parkour and relay racing. If anything it at least allows for some cool animation. Although I didn't think the animation was animation was as cool as I expected, but anyway, it has just started so things might look cooler later on. The episode wasn't something too good. It was an okay start. Let's see if it gets better. |

It seems that the drama CD for prince of stride is translated and up somewhere (just google it).
The drama CD expands upon the first episode, things they didn't include line that white haired guy you see in the OP and the reason for over-acting/reluctance of Yagami when he found out it was the Stride club. You'll realise some things as it clears up a few stuff as I rewatched the episode and thought: 'Oh, no wonder he had that expression' which I totally didn't pick up when I first watched it when the episode aired. |
