And just realized the girl in the first illustration with Kiyotaka is Chihiro(the one who confessed to Ichinose in Volume 2). This is her first light novel illustration IIRC.

And I think the one Kiyotaka is standing over in the second illustration is Nagumo.

I agree about Tsubaki getting hot but I think the highlight is Tsukishiro in his fighting stance. Pure epicness.

I wonder if Kiyotaka found Ichinose unconscious which might explain him being with Chihiro and the look on her face.

I believe Nagumo confronted Kiyotaka and they made a condition like the one that lose will stop koenji or something. Since Ayano also wants to get the top spot koenji is greater threat than Nagumo because of his near infinite stamina we have seen until now. So the loser one probably had to be the one to slow down Koenji whichi will affect 2 groups 1.the one slowing Koenji 2.Koenji and the 3rd party can have a greater chance of coming out at no.1 position which will help class.D move up and bind Koenji into helping class-D to ascend which is a win-win for Class-D.

Or it may be that Nagumo wanted to test Ayano and lost and now he wants to do a favor for being the best opponent by slowing down Koenji which will affect both Nagumo and Koenji and help Ayano get the top spot.

And I wonder who Hirata, Yukimura, and Hiyori are teamed up with. If they aren't going solo that is.

Bet one of those illustrations must be troll moments from Kinugasa & Tomose like they did in pervious volumes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tsukishiro just doing his tai chi for morning exercising instead of take a fighting stance against Kiyo.
