It'd be preferable if it was unknown, since that's dealing with canon, but if you must, 16 is fine.

Also, I know it's been out for practically FOREVER in internet time (was released April 29th) so forgive me if it's been mentioned before, but I just found and started playing the demo of Katawa Shoujo recently and noticed this familiar kid in the classroom.



Thought that was kind of an interesting coincidence.

16, why not. People would round up their age for school anyway. Not like the Japanese legal age is 16 (or matter to Kyon anyway).

Anyway, I finished the second part of Day 0, and also the Interlude at the very end, mostly out of boredom.

Spoiler for September the First, Day 0, Universe 1: Morning- The End of Eight:

[Scene: Kyon’s Bedroom, Morning]

I wake up to see a pair of eyes staring at me.

Kyon: Aaaaaagh!

I scream and scramble back to the edge of my bed.

My… bed? That’s right, I’m in my room. No ripples. No stars.

It’s morning, and this person sitting on the edge of my bed is grinning mischievously at me.

???: Good morning, Kyon-kun!

This person happens to be my sister, who my mom usually sends to wake me up. Which means—

Kyon: Today’s a school day, right?

Sister: Yup! It’s the first day back! What, did you forget, Kyon-kun? You’re so weird.

…It looks like August is finally over. We’re finally out of the woods.

As a side note, Kyon is my nickname, which is why my little sister has decided to call me that instead of “Onii-chan~” or something cute like that. In fact, now that I think about it, she was the one who perpetuated the stupid name in the first place, wasn’t it?

Despite what some of my less observant classmates would tell you, I do have a real name. It’s—

As I was saying. I’m an ordinary, 16-year-old first year high school student. Nothing strange about me whatsoever.

Well, actually, I guess it would be more accurate to say that I’m an ordinary 610-year-old first year high school student.

I’m not lying. I just spent the last 594 years of my life in a perpetual loop comprised of the last two weeks of August.

Or so I’m told. I don’t remember any of it.

At midnight on the thirty-first of August, time would reset back to the dawn of the 17th, taking all of our memories with it. With one, notable exception.

What she must have gone through…

The reason for all of this is, that a certain person didn’t want the summer to end. There were “too many thing she hadn’t done”, apparently.

Since today is September the First, it would appear that my plan to bring summer to an end by doing my homework has succeeded.

Yes, I know that sounds stupid. It still doesn’t match up to other things I’ve done, like saving the world by making out with a certain person or fighting a giant cave cricket.

Okay, that last part was a lie, I didn’t actually fight the giant cave cricket, I just sort of cowered in the corner while the SOS Brigade’s problem solvers took care of it.

All these strange happenings are because, last spring, I was dragged against my will by a certain person into a club devoted to “finding aliens, time travelers and espers, and hanging out with them!”

In one of its usual fits of irony, the universe decided to fill this club with a) and alien, b) a time traveler, and c) an esper.

…Hilarious.

Oh, and that certain person? Unbenknownst to her, she’s God.

…As a result, over the past few months, we’ve gone through some strange things. We’ve experienced the apocalypse, played baseball. I’ve traveled three years back in time and slept for three more. (On second thoughts, shouldn’t that make me 613 years old?) We’ve fought cave crickets and traveled to remote island locations.

And most recently, we had fun doing random things over the summer. 15, 498 times.

…Anyway, where was I? Right.

My nickname is Kyon. I’m an ordinary, 16-year-old first year high school student.

It’s time for this trip down memory lane to end. I have to go to school and deal with that person again.

Today is a brand new beginning in a brand new term, I guess.

This is the first time in my life I’ve looked forward to going back to school after summer vacation.

I don't think it sounds enough like Kyon though, but I'm relatively satisfied.

Spoiler for September the First, Day Zero, Universe 1: Interlude- Dark People in a Dark Room:

The room is dark. The lights are off.

The only light in the room is the glow of a small CRT television.

The image on the television is that of a sleeping teenage boy, with brown hair.

There are two people in the room. They sit just outside of the light created by the small television.

One of the people speaks to the other.

Shadow A: So, what number is this now? The thirty-seventh?

Shadow B: Yup.

Shadow A: And yet you still don’t feel satisfied at all?

Shadow B: Nope.

Shadow A: Maaaaan… I was kinda hoping… anyway, do we really have to watch him sleep? It’s kind of…

Shadow B: Sure we do. He’s cute when he’s sleeping.

Shadow A: Eh, he’s not really my type. Now, the other one, she’s cute. Why can’t we watch her sleep?!

Shadow B: This TV can’t tune into the other side. Besides, in a few days, it won’t matter any more anyway.

Shadow A: You don’t know that. Isn’t half the point of this to figure out if anything different would happen?

Shadow B: …

Shadow A: So far, nothing really different’s happened at all though, you’re right. ‘Course, some things have changed, shifted, etcetera, but that’s only to be expected.

Shadow B: …

Shadow A: Which brings me to my suggestion. Why not interfere? Viral Manipulation can go a long way, even if it is… unstable.

Shadow B: …Sorry, were you saying something? I was watching him breathe. It’s adorable.

Shadow A: …I was just saying that we should introduce ourselves into the equation this time around.

Shadow B: Oh, don’t worry, now that I know how everything works, I was planning on doing that anyway.

Shadow A: Sweet. Now, uh, could we please turn on the lights? I can barely find the door.

Shadow B: No! We mustn’t! The Television Room must remain mysterious, Number Two!


For some reason, both of them burst into laughter. Happy, raucous laughter, that, at the same time, seems frighteningly cold.

The television is switched off.


DAY ZERO END

I did this now rather than later because it was relatively simple and ominous.

It's probably a bit too obvious as to who those two are supposed to be though. Need to change that somehow, but, then again, it's just as effective if you DO know who they are, I'd think.

I noticed Kyon (though his hair was a little light so I was unsure if it was really a reference), but I missed Lelouch. Just another excuse to play it again.

Depends on how you would define age and whether you would argue that Endless Eight is either a time loop, or a collection of alternate timelimes.

In a time loop, the "state" of Kyon is reset to the beginning; so if you measure Kyon's age as the duration it has produced entropy thus far; he is 16 years old.
You could argue that is not true because some information is somehow retained by the last few loops; so his actual age is the one that can be objectively verified by an observer, i.e. Yuki.

As a collection of alternate timelines; the theory is that the world was destroyed at the end of the fortnight, unless the right step was taken; as a version of the Quantum Suicide thought experiment.
Kyon being the ultimate quantum observer/narrator, only naturally experiences the one where the world doesn't end... but Yuki; maybe as an experiment or something; somehow downloads the data from another 15,498 universes (or running the experiment by uploading her data to an alternate universe, who then adds her data to that and uploads it again).

So Kyon is only 16. Still, since Yuki, being a DATA entity would measure her age in terms of DATA retained, or that she could actually slide in this way, would be 597.

But no matter what, since Yuki herself observed 607 years of Kyon; to her Kyon would be 610.

And, well I like the interlude a lot. *e OK, even though Day Zero is mostly necessary recap, it's Kyon enough.

I'm not so certain those calculations are correct. It was eight days, right? Eight days that looped 15,498 times? That means that first, you must multiply 8 x 15,498 to get the total number of days passed. The answer is 123,984 days. How many years is that? Dividing 123,984 by 365.242199 (this accounts for leap year), lands us at 339.45694210432677851663027579123 years. Tack on Kyon's 16 years of age and we get 355.45694210432677851663027579123. So, basically, he would be 355 and a half years old after Endless Eight. Did I do that right?

Only half of it is. School ends at noon on that day and the only real content in the story is the poker game with Koizumi, which I am including.

This is also why it's Day 0 rather than Day 1.
